Title  Haven Prefab
Author  YumiHigarashi
Submitted / Updated  09-17-2007 / 09-23-2007
Category  Areas
Type  Area Prefab
Area  A total of five areas.
Description
This is an Area Prefab that I created. It's nothing all that special. Just five areas, each area does not link to the other if it is outside. The Castle doors link to one anothe rot their respective desinations, as does the Keeps, but the Haven Cliffs do not link to the Area Called Haven.
Ok. There are two Castle Areas. The first floor and the second floor. The first floor is about 30 by 30 and the second floor is just slightly smaller.
The first floor consists of an Entry Hall, Throne Room, Arcane Library, Servants Quarters, and Haven Castle Guard, as well as the hallway that connects them. The Second Floor is the Royal Quarters, Balconey Entrance, Servants Quarters 2nd Flood, Castle Haven Royal Guard complete with two rooms, one for like a captain and another for maybe his Lt., the Mages Quarters complete with a mini libray towards the front and each with individual rooms. The living quarters for each quarters aeams are comeplete with their own rooms for so said servants, guardsmen, etc. The second floor hallway connets out ontot he outside walkable wall.
The town of Haven had the Castle mentioned about, complet with houses ( that need areas for them along with transistions) and a place for an Inn and Tavern ( which also needs an area/transistion). This area is 32 by 32, if I am remebering from memory correctly.
The Cliffs of Havem have the Haven Keep on one of the cliffs. This area is also 32 by 32 that last I checked.
The Haven Keep is about 10 by 10 give or take complete with transistions from the Haven Cliffs into the keep. It also has the living rooms, storage rooms, and a Keeps Captains Room and Quarters all made up.
I left the prefab as such (without many other things, such as quests or toomany transistions) so that if you wish to change a few things you can, because thats the point of a prefab, to be able to use it how you want.

I have one image uploaded at the moment, it is one, using the toolset, of the first floor of the castle.

The hakpaks required are the CEP 2, CTP Generic Doors, CMP (Custom Music Pack), and Worms Seasonal Tileset.

This is my first contribution tot he vault since I have been browsing it for content to play around with for the past four years.
I haven't created a module yet due to the fact I have had major crashes, errors, corruptions, and also I can't script worth a darn, so that kind of squishes my whoole custom quests and storyline, also all my ideas are rather complicated.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy this prefab and it can be used to your likings.

Much better description. You should get more people downloading and hopefully commenting with that.

A few more suggestions:

First, run a spell check on your description. (Copy it into a word processor if you need to.) There are a couple of typos.

Second, add a caption (e.g. "Castle, first floor") to the screen shot so it's easier to discover what the picture is of.

Finally, please don't be disappointed that I don't vote or comment on the contents. I'll leave that to the people who are looking for an area prefab. (I'm just nosing around, maybe helping a new contributer's presentation.)

In my opinion, the areas are well designed, but too big sized.Especially the Seasonal Forest outdoor area tends to lag a bit in higher resulutions and be aware that there arent any NPC's around in your prefab, you will see what come if you (for example)let a few guards patrol and other ambient NPC walk around.
The castle it self is very large too, my feets are burning running around to see everything ;) Players dont like very long distances ( i know^^).
The Forest around the Haven is not very "natural" as you build it, only one kind of tree nothing else?

But nevertheless i like it and its a nice first try :) Hope to see you go on.
Greetings Darky

No prob. Like I said as I found time. I also added a screen of what the inside of the castle 1st floor looks like from the tileset.

See? We're already getting a better description: "It's [...] a nice Castle in the "Kingdom" of Haven that I created with a premade Castle and Keep." That's what I think you should start your description with. Then describe what sort of castle it is, and be sure to mention that you took the time to get it exactly how you wanted it for a module you've been working on. That little tidbit puts this well above something I could whip up in five minutes. (My five-minute example would have terrain and transitions, but nothing else.) I'd also mention how the areas are laid out: is it three areas for the castle interior, one for the keep, and one for these mysterious cliffs? ("Mysterious" because they haven't been described yet.) (No, I haven't downloaded this yet, so I don't know the answer.) Mentioning how large each area is would also be good.

My point is that, as you said, prefabs are supposed to save a builder time. You don't save time by downloading every prefab in the Vault, then opening each up to see what it's like. In order to be a time-saver, a prefab needs a description that will let builders know whether or not they are likely to be interested in the prefab. Your description falls short in this regard.

Take another look at your (current) description for this entry. You start off by telling people why they should not download this. That's no way to show off your work. Then you conclude by telling us about yourself. That's nice, but compare how much you wrote about yourself to how much you wrote about this prefab -- they're almost the same. Are you trying to hook us on your prefab or on your background? (That means you need to write more about the prefab, not that you wrote too much about yourself.)

You've done the work to make a prefab to make other's lives easier, so why not spruce up the description so people know how it can make their lives easier?

And now that I read over the line "Everyone's first contribution is most likely not going to be all that great, unless they have been playing around with the tileset for awhile." That is an exception for me somewhat, I have but have not been messing with the tileset for abour fours yet, since I was 17, but I was finishing up hightschool, and what with the military, I hadn't had alot of time until I got out of the military. Now that I'm a housewife, my duties keep me very busy, so I don't get to play around with the toolset as much as I'd like.
I'm saying this here to clarify and help anyone who reads my repy back to you previous to this one, so they ( and you) don't go what the heck she said she has been working with the toolset for 4 years which is awhile and she makes this statement.
I hope it makes a little more sense, it's 3:50 a.m. so I am thinking it will, but who knows.

Krit, I don't take offense to anything you said. I see your point perfectly, however, I did say that it isn't anything special. I do not have the time at the moment to tput up screen shots, but I will as I find the time.
Another note I had said that it was my FIRST contribition. Everyone's first contribution is most likely not going to be all that great, unless they have been playing around with the tileset for awhile.
The point of this prefab I created, was so you don't have tot ake the time to recreate it, it's already done for you, so you can get exactly how you want things done a little faster than what you would have otherwise. If and when making a module, every little bit of time counts, because not every person is a complete wizards are creating areas, I know I wasn't when I was much younger. It took practice to make it how I wanted it.
It's just a nice Castle in the "Kingdom" of Haven that I created with a premade Castle and Keep. That's it. Nothing more, nothing less.
As I have time, I am working on a module with custom scripts and what I think is a decent story line complete with oddball little side quests to gain loot, xp, and to just have fun with. I won't have it on the vault for quite awhile, but it's been started and my husband is very impressed with it.I will most likely name it after I finish it, because everytime I name a module before I really get anywhere, when I actually do get anywhere, the whole things screws up and I start over, so I'm not going to jynx it right yet.
Anyhow, thank you for your honest opinion.
Also keep in mind I typed all that on 3 hours of sleep. Lol.

I hope this doesn't come across too harsh, but why would someone want to download this? All you've told us is that it contains five areas, including a castle. What's the point? I can whip up five quick areas in the Toolset in very little time, including connecting a few of them with with transitions. What have you done that makes this a worthy download? Are there special placeables? Scripts? Eye candy? What makes this more than just another five areas? What makes it worth downloading?

In addition, you should describe the areas better. I'll work with the one detail I know -- there's a castle of some sort. Is this the starting point for the home of the local baron? The home of the emperor of the world? The haunted home of the lich who terrifies the land? Maybe some screenshots would help.
