Category  Spells
Expansions  SOU-1.30
Format  Module and Code
Type  Type - New Spells
Includes  BioWare Standard
Description
This script allows people to create thier own spells VERY EASILY. Each spell consist out of components which are combined at a Spell Creation Table. Componts like Fire, Duration and Slow. These components are items that the player can buy at a store, and are used up when you create a spell. The spell then can be used VERY EASILY too. There is a lore and spellcraft check to see if someone is succesful at creating a spell. This check is based on the components used. That means more powerful components require more lore and spellcraft. This means that you can never make an area effect spell of instant death with a will save DC of 72 as this will require 200 spellcraft. So this makes creating overpowering spells immpossible. The key advantage of this script is that all player have a uniquely different spell, so there will be more varying tactics. (Because I think PVP is getting boring with all the player having the same spells etc.)

Excellent work! We use this in Arynwind, with slight modifications.

all around makes playing a caster very fun.

also the cantrips spell ray of frost will be overwriten with your new spell too

For those of you wondering why its just an ordinary necklace... is because you cant really seen the new affect, but anyway its the cantrips spell flare that will have the newly assigned spell... so have your amulet equipt and cast flare at the creature it will have your effects

I have pretty much the same question, but my necklace was removed from my inventory

This is very nicely done and I would have given this a 10 in my book but it could use a better training device or conversation to help explain how this complicated stuff works.
Again....nicely done!
Cheers!

I'm starting to doubt my intelligence here... not my character's, but mine. I properly placed all the ingredients onto the table and I have an amulet equipped when I hit the "close" button. But... nothing happens?

I mean yes, the script confirms that it made a spell and swaps that amulet around, but afterwards the amulet is still a simple piece of silver without an effect ability on it...
I feel kinda stupid for asking this, but...how do I -access- that spell? It's not in my spellbook, its not on the amulet... where is it? o_O

This is a compilation of the old system into a single score. There were 9 that made this score of 9.78 then rounded to 10.

But I do use items to boost my stats. Heh. Maybe it's because I'm a Sorceror and have an intelligence of 10.

I'll try lowering the cost, thanks.

Well the reason that the spellcraft checks are so high, is that some player might use items to boost thier stats. However if you want to use this is a PW you can easily fix this by lowering the cost of the components as the check is based on the cost of those. So lowering the cost would fix that. About the healing, I'm sure it should work on yourself, maybe you took a wrong component in it? Anyway I will take a look at it. Thanks for the comment.

Nevermind, I got it working. However, I do see some problems with this script:

The spellcraft checks it asks for are far too high. My lv20 Sorceror with maxed out Lore and Spellcraft couldn't create a DC 15 non-area effect paralyzation spell.

Also, it's impossible to create any defensive spell, as both Ray of Frost and Flare can't target the player. After trying to create a heal spell, it turned out that I could only heal enemies, which I find rather pointless.

Don't get me wrong, this is a good script, but it needs revision.

This script looks promising, but the problem is that I can't download it. (I push the Download File button and nothing happens). Any help?

Posted by Wouter vd Wollenberg ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2003-08-23 05:11:00
The reason they don't show up in the correct order is because NWN stores place the items in the order of lowest to highest cost. This means the most expensive items show up first. I don't know if this is fixable, but I gave each component a different appearance to make it easier. (maybe create different stores for different components).

Thanks for a great piece of work, I have implemented this script in my new PVP module to spice up the caster possibilities, but the one problem i found is that all the components are not sorted correctly in the store, making it a real pain to find all 11 of them. Anyway this can be fixed? If I look at the store waypoint they're all sorted in the correct order..Definitely a 10 anyway though :)

Posted by Zwzo ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2003-08-03 16:22:00
Well first off you have to have a necklace equiped at the time (silver ones are provided in a chest) You then put the components on, and make your spell. To cast it, you keep the necklace equiped, and then cast Ray of Frost (ROF) or Flare on an enemy. You shall then see your results ;)

For the sake of using this in a PVP mod, I recommend changing it to only use flare because in many mods you can obtain a "Rod of Frost" which allows for unlimited uses of Ray of Frost...

Perhaps I am missing something, but after going through the entire process of creating a spell (and seeing the message that a spell was successfully created) I can find no reference to it in my spellbook or on any of my items. How do I go about finding the spell, much less using it?

Posted by Zwzo ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2003-08-02 16:29:00
Found a couple bugs in the system.

Firstly, if you don't have a necklace equiped it eats your components (F-U-N)

Secondly, You haven't prevented people from having more than 1 spell at a time (since it is stored in your necklace's tag)

Lastly, I figured that to create a disadvanatge to those wizards that chose to use this I modified it to require a certain necklace (or necklace set) to create a spell

I have managed to apply all these fixes to it, and I would be willing to give you the updated version if you wish to make it the official update (I also modified the costs of a few components, due to the fact that one was bugged and a Strength 20, should be worth more than 1gp)

Just email me if you would like the updates (I will only acepet Wouter vd WollenBerg, because I do not want to submit it to anyone but the creator)

es, I do think it mightake some time for an average player to understand the system, but on the other hand, if they try enough they see it is in truth very easy, you only need to put the components in the chest and it works. Besides the script is meant for player who want to personalise thier own spells, and most of these players are already expert players.

Besides before Melf invented his so famous acid arrow, he needed to study too.

I like the concept, but sadly, this is a much to complex system. Before you judge this as a bad comment, hear me out. Ive run a pvp Server before, ive seen the way that some of those people act. Im trying to see this from a non scripters point of view, its going to be a hard consept for many people to understand. Like i said, i love the consept, its just not a PvP Consept. Maybe it will work for a Story or PW mod, its just to much work for a common arena player. Good Consept, Not PvP.

Man this script is great. I opens new dimensions to multiplayer games. Cause the balancer insures that no spell will be to powerful. I run a PW and some players created some very nive and creative spells. Like:

Stunning Fog: A mass area cloud effect that stuns.
Melf's Cold Arrow: A acid arrow that inflicts cold damage each turn.
Freeze: Paralysis and every round cold damage.
Mass Curse: A area effect that curses players with a will save of 17.

As you can see the possiblities are endless. Keep up the good work wouter, definatly a 10.

As you can see I did a major update at the script. I erased the spell orb and create a spell table with spell components. This is so easy even my granny could do it. I hope this was many ppl asked me to do: create a script that would completly change PVP spell battles and make creating spells easier.

Posted by Wouter vd Wollenberg ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2003-07-28 03:24:00
No it is possible, the user doesn't create the templates themselves, the script is tag-based, and there is only 1 script that can handle any number of spells. It is true however that it can create 26.000.000.000.000 DIFFERENT number of spells. I created the script it such a way that every spell consist out of components. Such as Area, Damage, Duration. If you calculate all possible combinations you would even get a higher number.

But in short its NOT so that the script requires a different script for every spell. So you don't have to write scripts and the tag in qhich the spell is stored is auto-generated. The only thing the player has to do is cast the right spells at the spell orb.

Posted by Sebow ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2003-07-28 03:02:00
ehm i havent tried this yet but even if you used your whole life it would be impossibly to do 26.000.000.000.000, you cant even count to such a high number in your whole life (ok maybe you can but you get some serious verbal communication problems) the reason is simply that you would have to do every template for the spells and that would take extremely long.

so give me a true number nobody likes such type of sarcasm...
