The Bulletin Board System (BBS) allows players to read and post messages in your game. It consists of an NPC Scribe that allows players to post messages and a Signpost placeable to read messages. Messages are listed starting with the latest first. Players can page through the entries, which show the title of the post and the name of the poster. Upon clicking an entry the player will get the body of the message. Older messages eventually drop off to make space for new ones. You can place down as many bulletin boards as you want and they can share one global listing of messages or they can each have their own separate listings.

If anyone else is having trouble getting this to work make sure the 2 conversations that come with it are not set to cutscene. (set Neverwinter Nights 1-style Dialogue to true)

Very easy to integrate and install. Works flawlessly and is the perfect system I was looking for for my module. Thanks!

Hail! I have to agree with Sir Elric. We have been using this for years in Neverwinter Nights: Resurrection. This system works fine as a bulletin board, but just as important, it can serve as the basis for understanding how to use the Listening system to capture and process text from the PC chat window.

It says 'Import the two erf files'. Where do I import them to?

This is a easy to use system for the players to communicate. Am installing it in the PW that I am currently building.
This is a compilation of the old system into a single score. There were 20 that made this score of 8.72 then rounded to 9.

Yeah, I'll probably update it. I just reinstalled NWN for SoU. It had been off my computer for almost a year now.

Will this be updated to use the inbuilt Bioware DB for persistence now 1.30 is out? :)

Well, I just tested the system and I am very impressed. So easy to implement and works so beutifully. The scribe even looks at the bulletin board when the character does. Nice subtle touch.
I have a couple of suggestions. First and foremost, the author of a message really should have an option to delete his message.
Second, messages posted by the DM and NPCs should be designated, maybe with a different color or something and a parenthetical note that the message is from the DM.
Third, I don't know if this is possible but it would be nice if the date the message was posted could be given in game time and in real time. I don't recall there being any scripting functions to access the computer's clock, so this probably isn't possible without initializing the system with the real time and date and then a lot of math, but it would be a nice touch.
Hope you don't think I'm being too critical. This system is top notch.
Best Regards

Also the NPC may not have the feat to wear what you are trying to make it wear such as heavy armor. Go to the properties of that NPC and click the tab FEATS. Make sure the abilities to wear light, medium and heavy armor are checked, if not check them.

The readme.txt that comes with the ZIP has a section called
"HOW TO IMPLEMENT IN YOUR MODULE"

I am so confused. I am new at this - and I have no idea
how to set it up so it works correctly. Can you please
help?

Oh, duh nvrmind I got it...

This may seem stupid, but I can't figure this out, It was
just the board and sribe, where is the scrips and
conversations?
Posted by Serban Oprescu ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2002-08-10 00:29:00
The Bulletin Board System has been updated. Messages can
now be restored from the log file. The PWUM system is not
needed, but a full-featured text editor such as Textpad can
make the restoration process a lot easier.
Posted by Sembiance ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2002-08-08 17:10:00
The messages on the bulletin board could be saved if the
author of this script modified his/her code to support the
PWUM system (Persistant World Universal Mind)

Was finally able to incorporate this into my PW mod after
much fiddling with the mod itself to make it so it didn't
have to reload. Worth the effort in and of itself. This
is a fantastic script.

It's rather hard to say how long it took. I had worked out
handling dynamic choices in conversation a week before I
started work on this. Then I saw a post by someone wishing
for a job board, and two days later the BBS was done.
Posted by Padmewan ( 07/30/02 12:03..xxx.xxx ) at 2002-07-30 12:03:00
This is an excellent, excellent piece of scripting.
Extremely elegant solution... I wonder how long it took
you? :)
Posted by Serban Oprescu ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2002-07-29 10:21:00
No, the messages don't save if the server reloads the
module. All PW modules I've seen are run with the reload
feature turned off.
Posted by Chad ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2002-07-25 08:25:00
Question:
Do the messages save if the server reloads the module?
Posted by firvulag ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2002-07-24 13:59:00
Excellent tool. Since I run a pnp style game with very
little pre-scripted conversations, this makes a nice and
creative alternative to the ig journal system. For
instance the group rogue has to go to the local thieves
guild to inspect his "journal" and/or get jobs.
Posted by zenthor ( 07/18/02 03:14..xxx.xxx ) at 2002-07-18 03:14:00
now i can get feedback on my mod in testing without
haveing to be there
