Title  GIGASCHATTEN Persistent World Engine
Author  Gigaschatten

Category  Rulesets
Expansions  NWN-1.65
Format  Module and Code
Type  Type - Other

Description
The GS Persistant World Engine is a full-featured PW basic environment that replaces almost all Bioware standard scripting. I don't think 1000 characters can describe it, take a look yourself. Demo areas are included. Can be compiled in english and german, see gs_inc_text.nss. Important note: If you use the engine, try not to change resources that have prefix gs_ or future updates may overwrite your changes. An online demo is running in category localvault/roleplay, look for module 'Gigaschatten'. There is a helpforum at http://www.alphastationimaging.com/asgc/modules.php?name=Forums&file=index&c=7 thanks to Timidon. If you got questions (and you will) go there first.

Some good ideas but a lagfest in the making - scripts could be leaner.

Alright. It's been a while since I checked this server. Still wondering if any documentation has been compiled for the use and understanding of the server. Can anyone help out with this?

Anyone know the script that sets the players starting level?

Posted by Coolty3000 at 2008-12-10 09:34:18    Voted 7.00 on 12/10/08
The system is good, but there is very little documentation. Please use comments.

Great engine. And I know you've improved it tremendously since this one. I have just three gripes... 1) gs_inc_time is buggy. 2) The engine is OLD. 3) Where are the comments?

Posted by ed boar at 2008-03-06 14:38:26    Voted 9.25 on 03/06/08
Well, I've been happily pinching bits of code from this excellent engine for use in something I've been working on. Your Time library though - I've noticed an error. Anyone who comes after me should probably change this.

//----------------------------------------------------------------
int gsTIGetMonth(int nTimestamp)
{
return nTimestamp % 29030400 / 2419200 + 1;
}
//----------------------------------------------------------------
int gsTIGetDay(int nTimestamp)
{
return nTimestamp % 2419200 / 86400 + 1;
}
//----------------------------------------------------------------
void gsTISetTime(int nTimestamp)
{
SetTime(gsTIGetHour(nTimestamp), gsTIGetMinute(nTimestamp), gsTIGetSecond(nTimestamp), 0);
SetCalendar(gsTIGetYear(nTimestamp), gsTIGetMonth(nTimestamp) + 1, gsTIGetDay(nTimestamp) + 1);

SetLocalInt(OBJECT_SELF, "GS_TIMESTAMP", gsTIGetActualTimestamp());
}

As you see, there is one too many +1s there, setting the clock to exactly 1 month and 1 day later than it should be. For those who follow, open up gs_inc_time and change the gsTISetTime function to...

void gsTISetTime(int nTimestamp)
{
SetTime(gsTIGetHour(nTimestamp), gsTIGetMinute(nTimestamp), gsTIGetSecond(nTimestamp), 0);
SetCalendar(gsTIGetYear(nTimestamp), gsTIGetMonth(nTimestamp), gsTIGetDay(nTimestamp));

SetLocalInt(OBJECT_SELF, "GS_TIMESTAMP", gsTIGetActualTimestamp());
}

Other than that, and some minor interface problems that are easily sorted out by someone who knows their NWScript, fantastic engine!

Excellent PW! However, I read a comment from you, Gigas, made a while back, that you were releasing an updated version of the module, and to not download the current version. Just curious.. the updated version ever going to make an appearance?

Absolutely amazing. I've played on several servers that implement this engine and it is very, very well done.

I can not get ASG Spawn Kit 1.5 script to work with this PWE. I could use any and all help with this. Thanks great PWE just hope I can get it to do what I want it to.

Posted by syii_gardan at 2007-07-15 08:50:33
It sounds great but with no read me file to help it will take me a very long time to learn how to use it I am sure. I do wish I could get ASG Spawn Kit 1.5 to work with it. ASG Spawn can't work right because eveerything leaves behind a corpse. If I could get the mobs to not leave behind corpse then it sould work right I would think. Any way it does sound great if I could use get it to do what I want.

Would of give it a 10 but it lacks proper documentation to make it a 10. but is still A great set script set to build with.

Very good set of scripts for a PW. But it lacks proper documentation and it took me ages to figure out how to make spawns and add crafting recipes.
A readme is badly needed since the forum link doesn't work anymore.

Excellent mod, Gigas.. However, you've released the new version to Arelith.. When is everyone else going to see it?

Posted by Runesong ( 208.187.xxx.xxx ) at 2006-04-30 18:22:47
It makes Arelith great

Posted by puket at 2006-04-20 09:27:38
Ok,I'm ready with my online module and still waiting for the new engine.You have written here don't use the old one.
Can you tell me please what date you will release the new engine?

Posted by puket at 2006-04-13 17:16:43
Thank you Sir (Gigschatten), that you will go further with an updated engine
Studied the old (status quo) engine,surprised me very positive.Will use your engine in my new coming (german) mod.

Posted by Gigaschatten ( 85.180.xxx.xxx ) at 2006-03-31 19:15:19
Whew, nice to read the interview on Arelith at Bioware. Goes down like oil. OK, sorry, I haven't released the new engine yet but I DEFINITELY WILL. Don't use the old engine, wait for the new one, there's much that has been reviewed, optimized and added.

Posted by Unknown ( 70.137.xxx.xxx ) at 2005-12-05 20:51:33
Sorry for the bit of spam, but I just got a teeny weeny bit more to add...

Im going to try to add this to the module:

- Corpse's heaviness will depend on Gender AND Race instead of just Gender.

- Delete or not use Planar Portals, decreases realism although would be appreciated in a PW instead of RP module.

- Delete or not use respawn setting objects. No use if I am not gonna have it so you can go in the Soul Gate.

- Delete Soul Gate and Soul Guardian along with his gear.

- Add " By Gigaschatten " on all the conversations because he rocks.

- Swat *sits* with *sits and make it so only the beggining of the PC's speaking text has to start with the word *sits or *Sits instead of making it sit only when they fully say *sits* along with the rest of the emotes.

Posted by Unknown ( 70.137.xxx.xxx ) at 2005-12-05 20:42:23
The only changes I would make are and have been done on my version:

- Make a Heaven/Limbo/Hell instead of plain Death. You will go to the place that goes along with your alignment.

- Let PvP areas be liable to the Lingering Death NwN script along with familiars/summons.

-Make Death permenent unless the corpse is ressurected or raised from the dead.

-Do not announce the leveling of a player.

-Took away useless scripts such as onEnterArea, onPlayerRespawn, they just confused me.

Sith, this has been ansewered on the forums.

But, the ansewer is:
You cannot add/edit the deity or subrace system or you will be bound to screw up something else with out uber scripting skills, however, taking things or editing things from the conversation files of the subrace or deity system is fine.
You can take out stuff, I reccomend you dont remove any of the scripts without a lot of scripting skill, heed me, modify the conversation files only..

Posted by Sith-WarLord-Drow ( 70.152.xxx.xxx ) at 2005-09-29 08:48:25
I like the system, but I have a few questions to ask.
1) Is their a way to add to the Subrace System?
2) Also add to the Deity System?
3) Can I remove things I dont want, without affect the system?

so to reiterate..WHY should I use this over what bioware started..faic this is just FUD unless I see some practical reasoning behind why I should use this ( like all other hak posters do )..otherwise forget it ( just like other guy said here )

I think this is a great starter. I am looking forward to building my mod using this engine, and so are my players. I would like to take this time to say that it is because of people like you that NWN is such a great game. Thanks for the tireless effort to improve the game. Lord Rastilin Of The DragonLords Clan.
