Trailing Effects is a set of simple functions used for multi-trailing a moving creature object with visual effects, placeables, beam effects or creatures.
View attached readme for details.
Update March 4, 2005 : Haven't receive any bug report for this script, which is good, so this is likely to be the final and complete version (can't think of anything thing else to add). v1.1 introduces a new parameter called fZDisplace which lets you specify the height at which to create the effects/objects - this allows for even more possible permutations of effects, and I'll leave it to your imagination to come up with good looking trails. :) Additionally, the code has been cleaned up, which should improve performance by that unnoticeable little wee-bit.

Gaoneng, now you're responsible for making TWO of the top three coolest things I think I've ever seen in NWN- third being emitter shields. WOW, thanks!

found a great use for these! A high level druid can walk around with trailing flower patch placeables- giving the effect that the ground bursts into flower behind him... very druidic- looks great!

nice...
this makes PC's trackable by other PCS!
*can't wait to trail "tracks" that erode over time*

Nice work, I have it in my PW for various things now.
One thing though the "mirror image" effect (cloning the player) is very laggy unfortuneatly as this was one I really wanted to use in my PW.

Very nice indeed. I'll have more than a few uses for this in the near future. Thanks very much.
news
This isn't exactly an update, but I've added a second area to the demo mod to demonstrate how to add persistent trailing effects to all creatures in the area in a friendly way.
This was uploaded last night (Feb 17), so anyone who downloaded earlier but want to see how this area thingy works, feel free to download again.
The script is pretty simple. In the OnEnter event of the area, a custom function is assigned to the entering object. This function checks to see if the creature is still in the area after six seconds, if TRUE, it will apply a new trail (which joins up seamlessly with the old one), if FALSE, it will halt execution and break out of the loop. This works pretty much like a heartbeat, except that it isn't a heartbeat, so there isn't a need to scan the area repeatedly for creatures. _________________________ [dla][united colors][player's handbook][other submissions]

@ Monferrat
It depends on what material you want to use for the "silver cord" - it can be any standard or custom VFX, placeable, creature...
If I'm guessing what you want to do correctly, you want an area where there will be trailing effects behind all creatures? If so, there are several ways to do, either by using an area heartbeat script that auto applies the trailing every six seconds to every creature in the area, or (recommended) by using an area OnEnter script that fires a pseudo-heartbeat.
Very nice. Blur.. Mirrior Image.. THanks :D________________
