Animal Empathy as an Aura -- not tied to any "official" ruleset, just my interpretation of Animal Empathy.
In NWN Animal Empathy, your ranger or druid dominates an animal, subjugates it to their will, and forces it to fight and kill its friends and family. Somehow, this didn't seem very empathatic to me. And I couldn't really imagine protectors of the forests and animals doing this. (Except evil ones.)
In my version, Animal Empathy is an aura, a sort of exuded peacefulness that animals can sense when you mean them no harm. As they enter the aura, animals cease hostilities, and may become neutral or even allies. But they do NOT become your pet or your dominated slave. (and it doesn't work on just one at a time!)
Wielding a weapon, fighting, or casting harmful spells(*) negates the aura.
(*: within the limits of nwscript not really being able to tell if you cast a spell and what it was, so it's a little hit-and-miss.)
The include file has a bunch of switches and settings so you can customize the effects of the aura, how success or failure is calculated, what types of creatures can be affected and how difficult they are to 'calm.'
Again, I don't know DnD 3.5 from Windows 3.1, so I don't know if this does or can act like 'true' dnd animal empathy. And I don't claim it does!
Neraith is non-aggressive with her animal empathy aura, but the manticore doesn't buy it. (and don't complain manticores aren't animals that can be affected by animal empathy at all, in my version you have a chance to affect magical animals, and it CAN be turned off.)

This is something NWN has needed for a long time. The game engine has 'forced' druids into a combat role which makes them pretty sub-standard in more 'hardcore RP settings'. I would like to implement this, but have one question - (being quite noobish at this whole scripting game) Which script(s) do I call the include from?

not sure you *can* do it without the vfx. because that's how the nwn engine builds the aoe. (this is dragon fear, which was the only one big enough to suit me.) might take some low-level tinkering to strip the vfx out. but let me know how it goes :)

A good idea, fully in the spirit of ADD's rangers & druids. I will try it but without the visual effect on our PW. I'll feed back. _________________________ TN Bouchon 2 (PW-RP), un des "bouchons lyonnais"

Well I like it, very interesting concept on a very low used skill.
