Henry VIII of England wrote this song to Lady Anne Bolyn (pronounced "Bullen") as he was courting her. She had a deformed pinkie finger and always wore long sleeves to cover it. Some say she actually had a 6th finger on one hand. Since the Tudor color is green, she wore long green sleeves - hence the name.
This is a compilation of the old system into a single score. There were 5 that made this score of 7.00 then rounded to 7.

To tell you who Henry VIII wrote the lyrics for, some people beleive that he wrote the lyrics for his recently met love, Anne Boleyn. But they might have been for his frist wife, Katherine of Argon.

Henry VIII wrote it, actually. At least, he wrote the lyrics (bet ya didn't know there were lyrics, but there are!), and I believe he had the music itself commissioned.
Henry's lyrics are about a woman, and the gifts he gives her, such as fine clothes (hence, the green sleeves in the title), etc.
Loreena McKennit, the Canadian singer who does music with a Celtic theme, did a gorgeous version (including the vocal part) of this song on one of her albums.

Greensleeves was written sometime back during the 14th century. The reason why there isn't an original composer is because some parts where composed from one guy, and some from the other.Kind of hard to explain but there is a more recent example of this called "the House of the Rising Sun." I would certainly label both of these songs as Various Artists.

Henry VIII wrote it. Useless piece of trivia for you!

It's a traditional. It's so old that no one knows exactly
who wrote it. And therefore, it's good for this stuff
because no one can claim ownership of it.

This is great for RPGs. And best of all, the author is
unknown, so anyone can use it.
