I wrote this short, simple piece for the harp just to work as ambiental music for nwn. It's supposed to sound as a clash between celtic and baroque sounds, I hope it does so to your ears! =)
UPDATED
================
Although the song was added to the vault and the CMP a long time ago I decided to update it, because the volume of the lower tones and the song itself were too low, making it hard to recognize all notes the harp is playing. I believe it is much more balanced now. :) Hope you like it!

So nice I don't even mind if the short tune is infinitely looped. Great work!

Very sweet but short. I wish it were longer. Excellent work nevertheless. _________________________ Yay, I have a blog. Faithless: The Making of an NWN2 Module

This is a nice ambience piece! yes very peaceful :) i like it _________________________ Her strong enchantments failing,
Her towers of fear in wreck,
Her limbecks dried of poisons
And the knife at her neck,
The Queen of air and darkness
Begins to shrill and cry,
O young man, O my slayer,
To-morrow you shall die.
O Queen of air and darkness,
I think tis truth you say,
And I shall die to-morrow;
But you will die to-day.

I like it. Simple, to the point, peaceful.
Gratz, and thanks for sharing.
Hey Christopher, thanks for the vote!
I actually thought about that when I wrote the song, cause it seemed to me that a modulation would be good. But I didn't come up with something nice. ;) _________________________ I'm a prof. composer/sound designer. Link to my myspace

With the remix of this track, the lullaby is much improved. You can hear the echos of the harp in a concert hall. It is a great selection for a sleepy village (where I'm using it). The only thing lacking, I think, is that it is a short piece (about 1:00) - maybe another 0:30 with a variation on the melody would get the passage up to a good length, I think.
i've listened to a bunch of your MP3s, clarkycat, and I'd have to say I'm REALLY impressed...you are a very good composer. Darn you, Finale NotePad! why can't you have realistic sounds too? _________________________ Where'd I put my pepsi???
Sorry I'm only answering today, but I didn't take a look at the vault these days. Anyway, thanks for the nice comment! I hope I'll be able to upload more songs soon. :) _________________________ I'm a prof. composer/sound designer. Link to my myspace
I may not use it in NWN, but it is def good stuff :) Listening to it now, and the melody is right on :)

No probs!
Just drop me an email or something, and i'll help you out. :)
I'd like to try a mix with sparse orchestra as well, but i'll drop you a line before I ever even consider releasing it (and of course, i'll be crediting you in there too :) ).
Ok, sorry I didn't answer already, this week's been tough, I don't have time at all! I'll probably be able to work on the tempo changes tommorrow, then I'll just send you the midi-file, alright? Thanks a lot for the help! _________________________ I'm a prof. composer/sound designer. Link to my myspace

hmm...sorry, just listened to the track again (I wasn't listening to it when I posted the above).
Scrub going down in tempo then up again - you can just do a gradient down to 90 or 85, then just jump back up to 100 (ignore my tempo numbers, but you get the idea). In most of the places where i'd use it, theres a rest between the end of a passage and the beginning of the next one, so you can get away with jumping tempo quite easily.

What I usually do for a kind of natural feel (using Cubase) is apply a gradient tempo change going down, then back up again just before the end of a bar of a particular passage. For instance, say the tempo is 100, then dip down for 1/2 a bar to 90 or 85, then slowly back up to 100 over the rest of the bar.
I'd use it sparingly though. Obviously if the tempo keeps on slowing down and stuff its just going to get confusing. But used at the end of a phrase or something, perhaps when the tune loops back on itself, it can work quite nicely.
Hey Clarky
Thanks for the really sincere vote! You're right, the tempo is pretty much straight-on, no changes at all. I believe on QL it's easier and much better to make some tempo changes, and you won't get a messy sound in the end. I tried some tempo changes on a different song once (also a midi-file) and it didn't work too well. Where would you put in tempo alterations?
So, thank you very much for the proposal, I'd love to hear the song with a decent harp sound on it! I'll send you the file, no prob. But I'll have to see about the tempo changes first, of course. =P _________________________ I'm a prof. composer/sound designer. Link to my myspace

I've been pretty busy lately and so haven't been my usual "super-critic" self. Here goes!
I like the melody, and I can definitely see it working. One suggestion i'd make is add some subtle tempo changes. I'm terrible at never really adding them, but it really helps emphasise different parts of the composition and make it sound more "natural".
Obviously the sounds are a bit dodgy. In its current state, it reminds me of an 8-bit RPG or something.
However, thats just the sounds talking. If you manage to get a decent harp sound in there, and add the tempo changes, this will be much better. :)
Just as a note, if you want you could send the MIDI file to me and i'll apply a nice harp sound for you and email you back either the uncompressed wav or an mp3. Of course, I don't blame you if you say no - I wouldn't send my compositions in MIDI to a total stranger! ;)
Any comments anyone? I know it's quite simple and, as I said, recorded a as midi-file, but it would be nice to know your opinions on the song. _________________________ I'm a prof. composer/sound designer. Link to my myspace
