Here`s the next movement of my "Neverwinterwoods suite" for Flute, Harp and Stringquartet. This movement is quite less cheerful than the first. I imagine a faune that is a bit depressed and plays his flute in despair.

8 is very fitting, this peice is very picture esque and i can imagine it in an animated movie easily, it convays the sense of mystery and cuation of the unknown in the forest. about the only thing wrong is this theme wouldnt transition to battle very well, limiting its usefullness

Another piece of good ambient music. Starts a little too distinctive to work in anywhere but an important location, but as a piece has some very interesting moods. Do I detect a hint of 'the Slave March' in the middle there? _________________________ Works of B G P Hughes: Link
I am working on the third movement now. The work is a bit stuck at the moment. It is a 3/4 scherzo like movement, and I have a bit of a problem with the flow! But,Snafe, be patient, it will appear. I promise...someday! :D _________________________ Link

Ah, it is good to read comments from dedicated musicians! Thank you Darklord Snafe! You may be right about measure 56, the recapture, and I will look into it! You will certainly hear more, this is the second movement of,I think, five or six. ;-) _________________________ Link

Nimduril stole my comment about Bolero...
I like the fact that you uploaded the score along with the music. That really helped when I could see what was going on. I heard a lot of what sounded like William Schuman, with the block chords moving in parallel motion, (measure 22 for example).
The only thing I really suggest would be to add something to the recapitulation. The whole ABA thing works well, but i feel as if it needs something when the original melody comes back in with the flute at measure 56.
I like this piece, and hope to hear more! _________________________ Snafe Composed: What is a game without music? Neverending Nights - A NWN Machinima
PS.I haven`t got the chance to upload the score yet, but press the Link on top of page. You will be directed to my blog with links to download site. _________________________ Link
Thank you for a very good review, Nimduril! All the composers you mentioned are really sources of inspiration to me, and I really appreciate that you noticed the quotes.Like it or not, they stay! ;-) _________________________ Link

I have to admit, that on the first 4 or 5 hearings of that "Elegia", it reminded me a bit of the late Mahler. Then again there are modulations, that resemble the style of Shostakovich's String-Quartets (No, neither has it an impressionistic sound, nor would I think of a Syrinx of Debussy). But all together: pretty high level of craftsmanship. Of cause I can't really evaluate it, without reading the score, but this alone would grant you a 8.00.
Unfortunately there are also some major drawbacks, like the copied motive of Ravel's Bolero. Since it isn't varied or embedded it's pretty much a direct quote. As well as the Harp's Arpeggio: A whole Bar of Nobuo Uematsu, and a figuration to the Bolero-Quote, which seems not to work (at least in my ears). But since there are just a few cosmetical mistakes, it's still worth a 7.50.
Hope to hear more of the good work ;)
