I am curious as to what people think, I have received almost no feedback, and ive been modifying it alot... about 80 people so far have created accounts and have made 90 characters.
***************************
The setting is in my own custom gameworld, under the dwarven citadel Magnomas. So it all takes place in underdark (for now anyways)
short list of ooc stuff:
Ive implemented the spell fixes by player1 Link at
Link
Ive put in place a tiered progression system, which ill unveil later through the story once people start logging in and breaking things for me.
I have a respawn system that takes 5% of your xp (You will die often if you choose to pursue the hack and slash route)
There is a mercenary system where you can recruit henchmen to fill what your group is missing.
There are random encounters, with custom loot tables.
There are fancy puzzles, and mazes, I wont be using any "multiple choice" type puzzles, those are weak, there are fancier ways to do that. (lookup the listen feature)
There is an alternative to gaining levels for those who want to spend alot of time hacking and slashing, or even doing quests.
there is (alot) content made for a group(s) of level 20 players (the harder half of the pw)
I will chronicle what the players do on a daily/weekly basis, and modify the world accordingly.
So if you go wipe out the umberhulks, the dwarves might expand a little. if one of the cities gets over run and the players cant/dont help out, maybe it changes hands.
anyways
I started working on this on
APRIL 2, 2007, 4:15 AM EST
To give you an idea of how long its taking me to do stuff, im basically spending all of my free time learning new tricks and adding content / tweaking.
if anyone is a skilled interior designer and wants to help, let me know
Also, something to think about, when my world goes live again, there will be a reward system for the people who help me fix it as follows (this will be indefinate as well for those who want to actively help polish it):
500 xp, if you report any graphic problem with enough information for me to find it
1,000 xp, if you find a script problem
5,000 xp, if you tell me HOW to fix a specific complex problem (e.g. waypoints messed up on a spawned guard), and I use your solution(s) (examples help)
Also 2000 xp, if you find any loading screens, ambient sounds, sound ambience, or weird lighting that needs to be fixed, and you give me enough information to find the problem
for all the rewards, only the first one received that gives enough information to find/fix the problem will get the reward ! if only a few people mention it, ill give the others the reward as well.
Ill see about having an actual ingame feedback method so you dont have to bother with email, but I may just have you email me your bug reports, just be sure to mention your player+character name you want rewards on.
some outdoor areas i was creating maybe to use later when i expand the PW to outdoors concerning the war between lafarnin and althoria (malakdhuk is neutral in the war.)

hmmm month and half and no feedback, its up to 100 accounts made on it now. I wanna know if people are coming back or what, is it the lack of exterior areas turning people off? Its all interiors ~ 120 of them !
ok server is back up, wil be up 24/7 with occasional 5-10 min down times for updates to the world (npcs etc), the graphical portion should be fine with the current pwc, at least for a few months while i iron out the scripts and such, ill keep track of all the feedback on graphics, and do a huge update later.
Trying to play the game, but i just can't find it. I have downloaded the file and placed it in the correct folder, however cannot connect directly or find it in PW Action. Is the server down? Can anyone help?
oh and once the balancing is all done (in 3-4 months) hopefully, I will be removing all the area names. and all you will see is "undedark" or "pulsing caverns" with no locational specifics. that way exploration wont feel "fake" with the specific level designations everything as at the moment.. I have to have it this way though so taht feedback is easily acquired about specific areas (120~ areas so I dont want to explore 20 areas in a set to figure out which one has the problem you mentioned etc)
hehe there are 120ish areas, and its all linked together in a kind of web with many paths and many destinations. I have various places with bosses and such, and I will add more.
Thank you for the feedback. ill slowly fix the things you mentioned :)
the lag + mobbing is a problem im working on, if anyone has a suggestion to fix it. basically im having the encounters trigger in varoius ways in various places in areas.. would "caching" monsters fix the lag? i will investigate when I have time
Hey, tried out your mod! Here are my sugguestions/comments:
1. Merchant Exploit! Buy stuff, then sell for triple it appears to be doing. May wanna get that fixed ASAP.
2. Enemies are always injured or worse.
3. You can only buy one of each potion. Period. That means if someone buys it, you dont get any.
4.No item level restriction implemented.
5. Go to "Uppper underdark level 3A and had a HUGE lag then suddenly about 20 monsters all appeared surrounding me. Mobbed.
6. 15 minutes later I returned to the same area and they were still waiting for me at the entrance. Mobbed.
7. You may want to try lowering the amount of merchants you have to 2 or 3 (Armor/Weapon,Magic,Rogue for example)
8. Enemies are too few. Also if you have a huge room, you may want to make a pack of enemies or even a mini-boss (with loot)
Anyway, looking good so far! Just wish I had some hints where to go. I figured out further you go down in the caves harder it gets, but you may want to put up some warning signs that mass mobs will jack you up if you go to 3A. :p
keeping server off till friday and ill relaunch with a new .pwc and major updates to server, and will be part3 of beta, should be a few more huge updates like that before i can leave the graphical bits alone for a while so that i can do multiple updates per day on the scripts and convos/quests and get those up to par as per feedback and suggestions and my own evil plans kekekekeke
ill be continually tweaking all npcs and convos daily, so keep the feedback coming .
hopefully by the end of the month ill have worked out all the graphical problems and created more or less a near final version of the .pwc so that serious testing can be done on npcs without making everyone redownload stuff.
once things settle down a little, I will launch a music pack of about 100 megs, which will be an optional download for mood setting. but I am still debating that as the people coming in from gamespy wont know to download the music pack. I may just stick with default musics.
thanks for the feedback, ill be attending to all of the things you pointed out along with about 20 other things I found myself this week, and by friday ill do part 3 of the beta after i reupload the pwc :)
Got the pwc, logged on and made a Bard. SURPRISE! I'm nekkid with 100gp.
Took me an hour to find the merchants, after being 1-shotted repeatedly by rats. BTW, 100 gp don't buy much. So I grabbed some armor and a weapon and went in search of revenge. Still got 1-hit killed by the rats, just took them longer. So, I leave the rats to themselves and wander off to see where all these portals go. No clue, tells me I can't use them. back to the rats.
1.. Too dark. I realize that it is an underground area, but even dwarves have lights.
2.. Put up a sign or something telling folks where the merchants are and what they sell.
3.. Provide some starter gear. Even the default noob crap is better than nothing.
4.. No complaints about the XP (so far).
5.. Provide a conversation tree for that infobot thingie. I chose an option and the convo ended leavin me with no clue what he said. Tried again with different option with same result.
6.. Might wanna adjust the rats in the starting area a bit.
That's all I've noticed. I got bored after about 90 minutes and logged.
well assuming neverwinter nights 2 is installed, you put the pwc file into the "my documents\neverwinter nights 2\pwc" directory, then connect to an internet game, go to PW ACTION, and it will be listed there as "Alakamin"
areas are "completed" now, im just creating encounter tables, and fiddling with npcs :~(
should be a few more days and i can "launch" it for the time being for people to download the PWC and run around and look at empty areas and tell me that i have no asthetic taste haha (120 areas drawn, and "detailed" hehe). keep in mind i stil havent put down lighting or sounds yet, those are going in after the initial set of encounters / npcs is placed.
the new xp formula wont go in untli i do another update which wont be for a day or so, im gonna make each update huge, until the areas are done, then i can fiddle with sound/light placables and other non walkmesh stuff like scripts and npcs :P
i may tinker with my xp formula some more, and just have it take an average of the groups level but only allow a 5-8 level spread from the highest level in group... well see
this will be laggy over night, testing some stuff while i sleep for the next few nights ;p
on a side note
I had 3 friends connect to my server today and we ran around killed stuff, it seemed to be working good, i changed the xp formulate a bit, it will take the highest level player nearby and use them to determine the xp rewards for everyone, so no powerleveling will be possible (IE if a level 20 dude is nearby level 10 and lower stuff wont give xp to anyone, and good luck getting a lower level char to a place with higher level stuff ha ha ha.........
