Description
Abyssya is a unique campaign setting where distant and alien gods have long been silent and man is left to find his own place in the ruins of past civilizations.
Abyssya is a unique campaign world that has sprouted from 10 years of PnP campaigns and the imaginations of two long-time DnD and NWN Dungeon Masters (Illuminatus and Zweiander) and was one of the first and longest standing NWN2 Persistent Worlds.
Abyssya provides a rich Role-Playing experience, heavy in story, where the players can actually effect the world and its events. Unique lands and maps, a large pantheon, thousands of years of history, and colorful NPCs make Abyssya a place of endless discoveries.
Our DMs have a unique perspective on alignment, gods, and death and dying, and our campaign world reflects this. We believe that despite having an intricate story, a NWN server should be accessible to new players. While we heavily encourage role-playing and discourage powergaming, we do not require a password or any lengthy application process. Just log in and start experiencing the strange world of Abyssya. We are a new world, no old boys club or elite favored group on our server.
32 Gods

A floating Citadel that recently appeared over the city of Erebor. Houses the newly appearing race of humanoids called the Yuan-ti.
A quiet hamlet outside the city of Erebor beneath the ruins of an ancient Elven aqueduct.
Mudwash is a village outside Erebor's gates and is the starting location for all newcomers to Abyssya.

((Voted it 10.0, posting here too))
I have been playing for two or three weeks now. I must say as die hard D&D/FR fan who in the past cared very little for "homebrew" settings I have fallen inlove with this PW and its regular players.
While it is a little difficult to get the ball rolling with a 1st level character (especially non combat classes), it is not impossible. And were this a single player game would it really be an online hosted world instead of a downloadable mod? Make some friends, set out together. The people already playeing are all great (all the ones I've met), more than happy to help you along.
This is a RP heavy server, which is great. It brings NWN closer to the heart of D&D and RP. There is rp going on in and out of the game (players are able to post their character stories on the forum).
The DM run games are interesting and a whole lot of fun. They contain an element of mystique which is a new experience to me.
My only pain with this PW is that most of the players are in the America side of the world, and with me being in South Africa means we tend to miss each other during my day time hours or their night time hours. I still find I am able to get a good few hours RPing and playing with great players though.
Lastly, setting out in a whole new fantasy world with its own pantheon and mythos can be quite daunting. But the web site offers you enough info to start with and you are not pressured to create your character's entire history and character on the spot before you have even had a chance to see what the setting is like.
In conclusion I wish to thank Illuminatus and Zweiander for the dedication and devotion to Abyssya. I'm loving every moment spent in your world and I'll be playing for a long time to come.

The server is fantastic! They did a great job creating the lore and gameworld. Very detailed, challenging, and heavy in role playing. The player base is small but excellent with grouping. Highly reccomended!

I can't believe I didn't vote last time I came by.
Everything I could say has already been said however, so I'm just going to go and give it a nine, saying that the good sides definitely outweigh the few bad ones, which are mostly schedule-related (which, in my opinion, shouldn't even come into a PW evaluation, as we are voting on the PW itself, not on people's availabilities).

This is one of the best servers I've ever played on. The lore is terrific, deep and involving plots make it fun and immersive. The player base is currently small but all are great RPers and the quality of time spent there is the best.
If you enjoy an very RP-oriented, immersive server then this is the place to be! No powerlevellers or trolls here.

Amazing Server.
It has hands down, the best and most thoughtful Lore of any Player World i've ever come across. What few Players are left are excellent. It's designed to foster Roleplay before anything else so Powergamers will want to look elsewhere. The main problem this server has is a low population. But if you're looking for a Roleplay first server with fantastic lore and a relaxed atmosphere (No Nazi DM's)... then Abyssya is the place for you. Provided you have the inclination to work at making it the PW it deserves to be. With a few more dedicated players, this place can really shine.

The best PW I've ever played in, NWN and NWN2 both.
If you are more interested in roleplaying and story than grinding and leveling up, this is the world for you. Most all the players I've encountered have been excellent roleplayers. Veterans will usually make an effort to show the new guy around if you make some effort at RPing with them.
There are not as many players on at once as there are in the more popular servers, but I'd rather have quality over quantity anyway.
The world background is very in depth. It's a custom world but still d&dish, with elves and dwarves and all that.
Leveling your character takes a long time. There is a limit on the xp you can get from combat each day. This seems to scare off the powergamers.
Heartily recommended.

This PW is by far one of the best worlds out there. Having been an avid fan of the original NWN, and a long time player on the well known Narfell server, I find Abyssya to not only be very strong in all its content and backing, but with many players who are dedicated to RPing. If one has not given Abyssya a try, they are sorely missing out on a great experience!

The atmosphere is nailed in this, the maker obviously has a soft spot for lovecraft. Judging from the amount of background lore provided, a lot of effort was put into this world. For the most part many PW's I've visited have been really lacking in terms of how finished everything looks with the authors going on a tile frenzy. I didn't play long so the negatives I list may or may not be valid. You can't rest unless at an inn(at lvl 1 this gets a bit painful)Daily melee xp is capped fyi, so if there is no dm around I'm guessing you're out of luck. From the 14 years or so I played PnP d&d, sessions were never this slow even with multiple DM's and this is unfortunately where the world falls short. If you want to spend two days getting to lvl 2 then by all means go nuts. I'm sure the restrictions have a tendency to weed out quality Rp players from punks who like to hit 20 and be jerks- I understand that it was just a bit too slow for my particular taste.

The few worldmaps I have seen (the ones you can get to within two weeks of playing here) are gorgeous... and huge. There is great attention to detail in appearance. I like that even the "random NPC passerby" has names, though the descriptions are all identical. If I were only rating this PW on appearances I would give it a 10.
Quests are few and far between... I have asked around in game bot in character and OOC in tells to other players and DMs: I am almost uniformly told that there is only a couple thousand XP to be gained from quests. This wouldn't be so bad if there were other things to do, but there really isn't.
If you want XP, you gotta grind.
Unless you joined this PW with a few friends who have the same schedule as you, you won't find anyone to group with. The players are all reasonably friendly (unless they play a "mean" character - and there several people I have met there take their RPing into OOC as well for better and for worse)... but they only hang out with similarly level PCs. I can understand not wanting your level 10 PC to invite a level 1 or 2 newbie, but even finding someone willing to guide you around town is an epic task.
You should also expect to be required to read through pretty much the entire extensive library on world lore and world history, or you will feel very left out of the (very infrequent) PC encounters you do stumble on in town.
The rules are obscure. The forum is designed very poorly when you want to research which PrCs are available, what type of background is required to get them. The DMs, and the builders in fact, seem to change their minds about PrC rules randomly as well. It doesn't help that they like to "clean up their forums" by deleting old threads that (maybe?) had more clear information.
I have only seen a DM online two or three times. The DMs to play their PCs quite a bit, though they are too busy grinding to reach their daily XP cap, switching in and out of each of their many PCs to do so.
If you do decide to play here, expect a background rich custom world with more eye candy than you will ever see in a year of gameplay. Just don't expect to be welcomed with open arms by a friendly community of gamers.

If you're interested in a non-FR server, might be for you. Also has RP opportunity. Setting although unique just didn't work for me.

I thoroughly enjoy myself every time I log in here. :)
It's been a long while since I've explored the world properly, but the lore is solid, the intro is VERY unique and an interesting way to enter the world. There has always been (for me) an abundance of weird PC's to meet.
8 because it is a very well handled server, and recommended to anyone.

Likely the best you can find as far as quality goes - in design, setting and players.

This is an excellent, well-crafted world with a great player base and some very well thought out plots. The only reason I have not voted it a "10" is that the penalty for respawn (50% of xp) is very severe and I have found that it is really too easy to get killed. To be fair, because of my timezone I am not in game when the server is most populated and this does have an negative effect on survivability. This said I would still recommend the server.

Absolutely gorgeous. So far everyone maintains excellent in character attitudes and plenty of side quests for solo players

Abyssya is simply an amazing work of collaborative art. Between the impressive RP and friendliness of the players, the responsiveness of the DMs on the forums and their enjoyable plats, and the astounding beauty and depth of the setting itself, I would say this is the benchmark RP PW at the moment. Barely over a week spent playing thus far (though I've known a fair number of the player base as well as the creators in previous gaming) and I am definitely hooked.
I strongly recommend this server to anyone looking to find a truly enjoyable RP home.

A very large playing map, a detailed unique pantheon, and easy-going management of gameplay make it 9 for me _________________________ "Do not fear death so much, but rather the inadequate life."

Abyssya's main draw, is the intensive amount of detail that has gone into the area design, and a heavy focus to roleplay. That combination alone, of a heavy focus in roleplay and char development alongside an excellent area design makes this server no-doubt one of the premium servers. While some changes can be done to xp and class balance, this is an evolving PW afterall, and thus I lay down my score on the hard "facts" of the server : RP quality and area design.

It's unfortunate you had a bad experience with a character death. I hope you're able to find a server that suits you.

i am changing my vote. This server is not fun, the DMs like to spawn at transitions to kill you in order to "punish you". I once thought highly of this server, i now dont. The only thing i think this server is worth is the maps to explore to get ideas. Other than that I suggest you dont stay long.
Posted by Abyssya at 2007-07-30 13:48:52 Voted 10.00
Wanted everyone to know that we have now doubled our DM staff, so coverage should be better than ever.
In answer to Stout's comments, keep in mind we are an evolving world. New maps are added every week or two. XP has been reduced so that leveling is not as fast. The idea is to emphasize Role Playing over mass combat, so rewards are going to be higher than on a 'grinding' server.

Beautiful areas, compared to some ugly mods I saw recently, theres no contest. Also good RPers and a completely unique world, with amazing attention to detail. It really feels like more than just a generic NWN mod, its got life and feeling and infinite depth. Great writing, great quests, great players.

I think the maps are good. And as someone said the beginning quests are good. But overall it dies quickly at level 3 - 5 since you can see and do it all really quickly. Leveling up is very quick. If you make a char and let him sit there your XP cap grows each day. Come back a weeek later and youll be level 3 with only a few combats. Its not as if you try and powerlevel but for the amount of XP given on kills and the small and limited areas to quest you really end up with alot of XP just on your way to get to a plot area. This makes people look like powerlevelers but in a sence when you hand out 50+ xp on CR1 creatures when your level 5 people will shy away from this. Though i must say the starting quest is awsome and you really should log in, look around.

"It also makes it impossible to RP a Druid very well."
You can buy firewood to create a campsite and rest there. There are also quite a few permanent rest sites spread throughout the server.

Amazing game world for those looking for a hardcore RP world. The game world is absolutely breath taking and I find myself stopping and just going "Wow" as i look around for a bit every time I transition into a new area...and they haven't even finished putting in all the great places yet.
The roleplaying by the players here is absolutely top notch and the best I've seen anywhere on NWN2. Numerous systems already in place that are interesting and useful for the environment (Traveling merchant system, unique XP system). As well a wonderful philosophy on running a PW world that promotes mature, in depth roleplaying.
There are still things being worked out, as there are in most worlds, so if you have an issue you'll likely find out its being worked on if you bring it up on the forums (which are very friendly).
Can't honestly say enough about this game world. A+++

I was a bit disappointed considering how many good things were said about this PW
The world seems big and the environments are great looking. But requiring people to enter the inn rooms to rest at all just seems overboard. It also makes it impossible to RP a Druid very well.
The introduction area seemed to need a bit of work too, I antecedently chose a weapon I couldn't use and couldn't re-pick
It looks like it has some potential, because, as I said, the areas I saw were beautiful looking, but it needs a lot more work.
