I did not like being unable to choose who my mage was going to be. The "romance" I could take or leave. Anyway, this removes the old checks in the Rite of Tyr scene and allows you to "talk to my friends" or "give orders", so you'll have the chance to pick your companions.
This does NOT alter other scripts in the game. So, if you're a dude and choose Casavir, you aren't going to get very far with him. But I saved off the love interest to a global variable called 20_TyrVigilSuaveGuard, so you dudes who are trying to romance Casavir will just have to check against that one variable. It is stored as an integer in globals.xml.
This also adds in Elanee's vigil variable that seems to be missing elsewhere in the game: 00_nElanee_Vigil with the value of 1. If you chose the city watch, I suggest also getting that slums fix that's elsewhere on the vault (Elanee works fine if you went with the criminals).
If you pick the mage with less influence, that mage will get an influence boost to equal the other mage's influence +1. So if you want Qara in your party but all that time with Sand means he likes you ... a lot, then Qara's influence will be set just above Sand's and you can pal around with the psycho nut-freak chick.
This is currently in beta. I haven't incorporated anyone else's fixes to the rite (if there are any out there) and it isn't tested very well, mostly because I'm lazy and I just wanted to get the right mage in my party.
Before entering the temple, my 'female' character has a default influence with:
Neeshka/Casavir - 9/12
Elanee/Bishop - 7/13
Qara - 16
Sand - 6
*(full sequence of events):
1. Hlam asks if I'm ready to start the Rite.
2. I chose "I am ready" (ignoring extra options).
3. Dialog continues as normal (Khelgar finishes).
4. Hlam leaves me in room.
5. Qara appears. Dialog.
6. Qara leaves...(insert Link's description here)
To test the influence theory, I adjusted the influences manually (with slight favoritism towards Neeshka, Bishop, and Sand):
Neeshka/Casavir - 12/12
Elanee/Bishop - 10/13
Qara - 16
Sand - 17
*Follow sequence of events up to #5:
As expected, Sand appeared as my mage.
Sand leaves...(insert Link's description here)
I tweaked the influence again, in the opposite direction this time, with favoritism towards Elanee, Casavir, and Qara...to a similar end.
I'll play around with it some more if I have time.
Also, I know nothing of scripting and what effects these sorts of mods have on the actual game. However, while troubleshooting, I noticed that removing the mod folder from my Override directory didn't remove the additional dialog from the game and the mod seemed to function as it had been. Overall, the scripting for the mages seems to work (at least). But, I suggest some major tweaking for the 'romance' npcs...something just isn't clicking.
Female, and unsure of reputations, but chacnes are neeshka was higher -- my party usually consists of my main, Qala, Neeshka, and one other, depending on the situation (varies), but I usually focus on choices that raise Qala and Neeshka's reputations, therefore they should have the highest naturally -- though that may not be it, I tried selecting neeshka, and when she comes in, rather than being at the door, it shows her beside me, but same effect, ends in it zooming out of the cutscene.
I'll take a look at that. So I know: what's your character's gender and reputations with Neeshka, Casavir, Bishop, and Elanee? That's what the game checks.
The weird part with this particular cut scene is that these variables are checked *three* times. The script automatically checks it when you start the conversation (setting your default choices). The conversation dialog does a check. And then the conversation dialog triggers the script, which does the check all over again!
So I have to allow the game to do the first check properly (otherwise the included scripts won't load) and then override the chosen variables with the user's choice. It gets very messy.
I'm guessing that your Elanee/Bishop reputation is higher than your Neeshka/Casavir rep. I had wanted to avoid changing reputation totals as much as possible, but it looks like I'll have to go with what works. I'll implement a reputation modifier for the romances that works the same way as the mages'.
If my suspicion is correct, if you want to get your game working with the NPC of your choice, I'd suggest editing the reputation of the NPC you want to be higher than the rest.
Should have really tested this, now my game is bugged -- Qala comes in fine, but neeshka/casavir don't, the game zooms on the statue of tyr, then zooms out and does a half zoom on my chars face for a few moments then leave cinematic mode, look over, and they're standing at the door..
