This Mod simply replaces the Palemaster's Bone Skin feat with a Craft Bonemail feat which you gain at level 4.
Crafting System Version: Place a Hide, Studded Leather, Leather, or Breastplate, Light Shield, or Tower Shield Mold in a Magician's Workbench. Then cast Death Armor on it.
The mold used determines the type of armor you get:
Exoskeleton: +2 Breastplate, DR 5/Bludgeoning
Ghoul Shell: +3 Leather, Ghoul Touch DC 15 3/day
Vampire Hide: +3 Studded Leather, DR 5/Silver and Magic
Wight Shield: +1 Light Shield, Cast DC14 Level Drain at will
Wrapped Shield: +2 Tower Shield, DC 16 Paralysis Gaze 1/Day
Zombie Hide: +1 Hide, DR 5/Slashing
Only Palemasters can wear this armor. A Palemaster of level 4 gets a -10% Arcane Spell Failure reduction while an 8th level Palemaster gets a -20%.
I gave the Wight Shield an unlimited use Touch Attack. It's somewhat close to a Shield Bash. _________________________ Nemo non Morior Anime Overviews MP3 Player Playlist
So, initially I had thought the shields were useless, since I thought it was a flat -10% or -20%. However, rereading, it says that pale masters "[treat] the undead armor as if its arcane spell failure chance were 10% less. ..." Which sounds like it applies per-piece (and even if it isn't, you can still probably use the wight shield at high levels). So...
The tower shield has too much spell failure to be useful here, I'd say. It's supposed to give you a 1/day ability to, when taking total cover, force a DC 16 will save to anyone in front of the shield, or be paralyzed for d4 rounds. You could probably implement this as a 1/day ability instead.
The wight shield is supposed to be wrapped in wight hide, which means that when you shield bash someone with it, they must make a DC 14 fortitude save or gain a negative level. However, NWN2 doesn't have shield bashing.
As it stands the wight shield won't really be any better than a mithral shield, other than (probably) being less expensive (which by pale master 4 probably doesn't matter much). I suppose it's good flavor, though.
Um... that's basically already possible now. But rather than get the .2da line, you just get the blueprint tag.
Create the base new armorstats .2da lines, create the blueprints for the new armor with base stats, then attach equip/unequip scripts to them that add/subtract the Arcane Spell Failure reduction depending on the level of Palemaster found. _________________________ Nemo non Morior Anime Overviews MP3 Player Playlist
I guess in patch 1.23 there will be a proper way to get the armor 2da row entry, which should allow a proper ASF modification based on the material type of the armor. You could create crafting recipies for making undead armors that require Craft Undead Armor feat, and that would be tagged with "Material: Undead" as one enchantment slot (in addition to whatever other properties they may have).
I am interested in the shield ones, since those would be invaluable for a Palemaster's survivability in melee.
Bonemail:The pale master has an instinctive feel for
bone and can craft necromantic armor composed of interlocking
bones. His appreciation for all things dead allow
him to wear the bonemail like a second skin-that is,
natural armor, which does not interfere with arcane spellcasting.
Only pale masters gain any benefit to Armor
Class from wearing bonemail.
At 1st level, the bonemail grants a +2 natural armor
bonus to its wearer. At 4th level, the pale masters
mastery over this unusual medium allows him to move
more naturally within the armor, granting him a +4
natural armor bonus. Finally, at 8th level, the pale
master becomes a true bone artisan, receiving a +6 natural
armor bonus from his bonemail. These increased
bonuses are the result of greater expertise in wearing
the armor, so bonemail created by a higher-level pale
master confers only the natural armor bonus appropriate
to the wearers level. _________________________ Nemo non Morior Anime Overviews MP3 Player Playlist
Pale masters in pen and paper get reduced arcane spell failure in undead armor. 10% at 4th level, and 20% at 8th level. The undead armor listed in the same book is:
Exoskeleton: +2 breastplate, 5/bludgeoning DR
Ghoul shell: +3 leather, ghoul touch DC 15 3/day
Vampire hide: +3 sudded leather, DR 5/silver and magic
Zombie hide: +1 hide, DR 5/slashing
(There's a couple shields, too, but whatever.) Those have spell failures of (assuming the same as the referenced type; the book doesn't actually say) 25%, 10%, 15% and 20% respectively.
Of course, giving a flat spell failure reduction is too good, because then you can use it with mithral armor, which is better than the above stuff. But it's not that much more un-P&P than giving natural armor bonuses. Bone skin is actually nicer, since level 1 appears to be a dead level for pale masters in pen and paper.
It's a nerf no matter how you look at it (since it give armor that give Bone Skin isntead of just giving Bone Skin).
The only time it isn't a nerf is if you're using Reeron's Palemaster, as for some unknown reason he replaced Bone Skin with a reduced Arcane Spell Failure bonus. Which makes no sense at all, since Bone Skin is closer to P&P than reduced Spell Failure. _________________________ Nemo non Morior Anime Overviews MP3 Player Playlist
