I'd encourage you to add polygons to the bottom as well. I've been working on a tree city and one of the biggest frustrations for me is that most of the placeables have nothing on the bottom, and thus are entirely useless to me. Thanks for the feedback, The problem is solved, Tazpn's script did not export this model properly. Obsidian's did, therefore there is a working walkmesh now, see the in-game shot.

If by underside you mean polygons capping it from below,
The reason is performance. More polygons -> less fps.
As it is, the platform itself is 1200, which is a bit high, so I took every measure to reduce it.
