I might make some of these things (definitly if i use them in my module) i would likely make them from scratch however, using these as reference. this is something i would love to do.
I don't see the point in converting content from NWN1 to NWN2...
If you want to use the content, then play NWN1. If you don't want to play NWN1 because NWN2 has better graphics, then don't convert NWN1's content to a NWN2 format, because then you'd be using content that's inferior for the updated engine. Bugger.
Anywhooo, seeing as all of these "ideas" come down to the same thing, why not just make one topic that reads "Convert everything from NWN1 to NWN2"? :)
This whole thing is getting pathetic. I know as well as anybody else the legal side of developing and sharing custom content for Neverwinter Nights, and the rules of the vault. What you fail to understand is that Neverwinter Nights 2 is a different game and the NWN1 EULA does not cover re-using the custom material for another game like NWN2, which copyright is co-held by a different company than Bioware.
Anyway, it matters not, as the point here is the courtesy and respect that are due to any other community member in the first place, and for the specific of custom content to any author out there who spend their own time to create something for other people enjoyment.
1. I am not a CTP member, so try not to slander them because of me.
2. it is not a matter of copyright here
3. Neverwinter Nights EULA applies only to Newerwinter Nights, not to its sequel, so technically you'd be breaking Bioware's copyright
4. Why don't you make your own stuff and manage it the way you like, and let others do the same? I make material for NWN1, and I have all rights to ask that it isn't ported to other games.
With respects to modders work, hopefully the NWN community can work together somehow and remake NWN placeables for NWN 2. Whether if its the original modder remaking it for NWN 2, or the modder bestowing his or her work for someone else to remake it. Hence breathing new life into your work and help keeping your work alive in an addition form for others to enjoy. Not to mention the hassle of you having to make it again. I think of it as a tribute, and after all imitation is the most sincere form of flattery.
If getting permission of remaking placeables from individuals is too hard. I recommend modders look through various NWN placeable haks and draw influence from those, but still try to be orginal.
