Just thought I'd toss out an idea for modders who don't like what they read in Grand History of the Realms ...
"As Below, So Above"
Upon the death of Mystra (and Azuth plunging into the astral plane), for a split second the power vacuum makes Mystra's most powerful Chosen the god of magic. And a split second is a very long time for a divine being.
Elminster's weary enough and doesn't care to become a god but he isn't too fond of the future he sees, either. It's time to ignore Ao's rules regarding time and fix the future.
That's where the characters come in.
A series of theme-related mods could follow, not necessarily in chronological order or even linked to the same PC's. Key deity-follower associations can be manipulated to rewrite the future (lower level would be fine, since it would be more likely to fly under Ao's radar).
On the material plane, PC's could prevent a dwarven war, prevent a plot to disrupt the wedding of a member of Tyr's clergy and one of Tymora's, (thus saving a Helmite), stopping a plot by Cyricists to murder key members of Mystra's clergy, etc, etc.
It could culminate in a showdown with divine beings (serving Ao) trying to stop the PC's from helping Halaster activate his device in the lowest level of Undermountain. Devil's might even help good PC's, liking reality as it is and seeing too much chaos in the alternative.
Just a few thoughts.
And throwing some fuel on the fire.
Not cannon, but perhaps a bit of stress-relief therapy.

This is a great idea. I have used the after events of the Spellplague and written stories of a post death of Mystra Faerun. You can find them in 5 of my mods posted on the Vault. The bad thing is that there for NWN1. If any one wanted to make them for NWN2 I say go for it! _________________________ Farewell and a long farewell it shall be. Some of us are not destined to meet again.
I'm not against 4E, either. The mechanics of DnD have changed several times. Some things we'll like, somethings we won't. Some people will ignore the change, some people will embrace it wholeheartedly, and some will pick 'n choose what they'll use.
The change to the realms is what I'm concerned with; on the Candlekeep board, people were going beserk until Ed Greenwood came out and basically said "I don't agree with it either, but let's give it a chance." Well, that was _my_ take on his recent post.
I'm merely throwing the idea out as kind of a "primal scream" therapy for those who don't like what will happen to realmsLORE under 4E.
It's not that we are anti-4E, it's that 4E for the most part isn't compatible with the game engine without spending months or years trying to script workarounds for the incompatibilities.
