Ideally this mod (blueprints, 2da changes) would be compatible with Kaedrin's PrC pack, one of the more popular and comprehensive mod packs for NWN2. He has already implemented the fire elemental animal companion.
Also since 1.23 allows changing the familiar summoned, I would suggest maybe some spells for changing familiars as well such as the Wizards page on the spell "Elemental Familiar": Link
How about allowing certain types of characters to get an animal companion? Kaedrin is adding one for the Spirit Shaman at level 5, Telthor Companion, but I was thinking "Wild Cohort" might be a nice feat for an alternative to Rage for the Barbarian: Link Thus allowing playing more of a wild "Beastmaster" type, than say a Ranger.
Kunikos: Hehe.. just check the project update (including new pics).. I already decided to offer some more animals with the first release.. so now this pack will include.. Arctic Boar, Arctic Wolf, Hammerhead Shark, Highland Snake, Mako Shark, Mountain Lion, Polar Bear, Snow Leopard & Wolverine.. There's a very good chance, that I will add a lot more stuff after the first release, but first priority now is to get out that initial release asap *^_^* !! _________________________ Cyphre's Animal Companion Pack
Cyphre: Very cool, I posted in that thread. Although "winter" variants on the same stuff isn't terribly exciting to me, I am glad that you put in the snake. How about some artic birds?
"void SummonAnimalCompanion(object oMaster=OBJECT_SELF, string sResRef = "")
This was modified to take the resref of a creature as an optional second parameter. If provided, this creature will be summoned in place of the actual animal companion. If provided but the resref is invalid, nothing will happen however it will count as a feat usage."
I would like to see Feral Companion feat too, adds Feral template (disease attack, resist +10 vs charm) which has Vile feat descriptor.
PS: Damn! How can you change familiar type through scripting??? I was looking into this (with 1.23) and couldn't find a way to do it. Was considering including an item with a special power to allow people with existing characters to change to the new familiars.
Help me out here... was searching everywhere for this function.
Another possible use i was thinking was to create a feat called something like "Combat Familiar" which could then be used to unlock the new familiars (as they are more powerful than the base game ones). I believe there is a column in hen_familiars.2da that allows a required feat in order to have that type of familiar.
Wow, didn't know K was adding a creature for Spirit Shaman. Maybe at long last i will be tempted to play one.
Like Cyphre i'm working on an update for Familiars but not following NWN2 style, actually using a lot of NWN1 style familiars (actually probably will call the pack NWN1 style familiars or some such).
Like NWN1 they dont give feats upon summoning but are a lot more useful and robust for combat. I'm using the NWN1 wiki for stats and powers although not keeping to it 100% (not always entirely possible).
Using Bounce's beholder model for the eyeball, although its a little funny to see it floating a few centimeters from the floor because of scaling... but its either that, or not have it at all. Maybe can convice Bounce to release a scaled down version....
The familiars i will add are:
Eyeball - scaled down beholder
Fire Mephit
Ice Mephit
Faerie Dragon - scaled down copper dragon tinted green.
Psuedo Dragon - scaled down red dragon tinted a darker red.
Clay Golem - actually to be described as a constructed construct that uses the familiar bond in a different way as mages sometimes construct golems but there is no general way to do this in game (without lots of work).
Panther - yeah! sneak attack (did this a long time ago... but remaking it closer to NWN1).
Pixie
Slyph - Not a NWN1 familiar but fits well. Sorcerer type.
Hellhound
The pack's current status is:
Eyeball is completed.
All familiars have level 1 templates although only the Clay Golem's is properly done at the moment.
Portraits for those that dont exist in game have been created.
hen_familiar.2da edited.
What still needs making is:
dialog.tlk entries. Using base tlk entries for the moment which is ok for preview/beta release but not for final. Will release 2 versions, one for Kaedrin's and one for base game, plus probably a text doc with descriptions for easy editing into TLK files if people have some other custom tlk file.
appearance.2da - generic for use with or without K's... i think it will not matter unless people have some other appearance.2da in their override. If people have K's pack then its not needed. One issue that i need to fix is to add an eyeball template to this as currently the beholder is treated as a large creature, so need to remake this as a small creature.
I plan to release a preview version in a week or so when i get a few more templates done (its a long a boring process!!).
Ok, so this isn't what you want, but thought i would let you know its in the works. I think it will interest a few people.
