Wouldn't it be nice if you could treat your animal companion like Okku in Mask of the Betrayer and equip them with rings and such? There are rules for this on Wizard's site:
I think its along the lines of how the animal companions are done, currently you click the button and you summon a copy of one. This wouldn't work well if you could dynamically give it items in its inventory since the moment it dies all the items would be lost, however if the summon animal companion was treated more like a henchman ie, they dont actually die, they just fall over and await a rez... say give all animal companion classes a revive companion ability that could be used only outside of combat.
Leveling up the animal companion would also be a little bit of an issue, although I guess you could do a system where it stores all your animal companions items as variables on either an item the player has or on the player themselves and every time the players companion dies or is re-summoned it re-creates and equips the items.
Never got Okku... killed the bugger, so I dont know weather he was an animal companion or a henchman. Im assuming Henchman.
