BouncyRock Entertainment README FILE: BEHOLDER
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
by Jonny Ree Link
"The 7days challenge. This creature was done in 7days, for the sake of pushing myself. Expect to see more 7days creature challenges from me in the future"
First of I would like to thank Dirtywick for scripting the creature, it truly feels
like a beholder.
Tony K is currently working on doing improvements as well as maybe adding support for other beholders. So, changes may be added over time, such as more beholder variations; skins and models.
If you have any problems, questions or comments, please feel free to email me at:
[email protected] (please add Beholder in the subject) or go to Link
The beholder is built up by 2800tris and has both a L1(1900tris) and L2(1200tris) model.
It uses 1024x1024 textures, Defuse, Normal, tint and glow. This means that it is tintable.
tint Settings:.
skin: Tints the main skin of the beholder
Armor01: Tints parts of the skin around the eyes.
Armor02: Tints the iris.
Special thanks to:
Dirtywick - for scripting
Michele aka liso - for keeping me going
Jason Roy aka jclef - for tracks to liste to
Tony K - Who is currently doing his magic
Everyone over at the bouncyrock forums, nwn2cr channel and bioware forum!
PS: Download and read README for more in-depth information, as well as a writeup by dirtywick on the AI and 2da ranges.
Thanks for all the support everyone! you can expect more creatures from me in the future :)
This is the HAK version of the creature. It also contains a module to test the creature. People who do not intend to use the creature but want to check it out, here is your opportunity :)

9 - Outstanding, a Must Have for anyone who wants Beholders and does not have SoZ.
This is another fine model of yours! Excellently set up to perform like a Beholder too. Only problem is the lack of support for SoZ. There are 3 different 2DA files included in this that break the SoZ content, presumably because they were created from the MOTB 2DA files? It's the one thing that prevents this from being a masterpiece. Good job I can edit my own 2Das. :-)

We should just hire BouncyRock to make an unofficial NWN3.

Superb creature addition.
Couple issues I have.
First, as pointed out previously, the appearance.2da line is missing a column.
Secondly I can't figure out which lines of the spells.2da are modified, yet it's included in the override?

This one squeezes the ever rare 10 out of me. The modeling, texturing, AI and animation are all top notch and combine to create one of the most memorable creatures of DnD and NWN2. _________________________ Co-founder of the PW (open beta) Sea of Dragons. We attempted over the last couple of days to add the beholder to our PW. The problem of breaking some SoZ characters was encountered until we removed the additions. The players could not log some of their toons. Has anyone experienced this and is there an easy fix? _________________________ Moderates at Link

Agree with the fans of this. I love it and its is now going into our new beholder cave. Would it be possible to increase the info on the specialty Beholder attacks? I added a Gaze--petrify and upped it to cr 25... seems nice and nasty now. Thanks a ton! _________________________ Moderates at Link

Thanks for the wonderful comments everyone and thanks to the AME for considering me in the custom content category. Very exciting.

Superb work!
However, I've run into some difficulty using this - and it took me some time to find out what.
It seems that apppearance.2da has got a new column as of SoZ, making line 5000 of your appearance.2da "invalid" when inserted into a SoZ .2da file. The column that has been added is ANIMATION_SPEED. I simply had to edit your line 5000 to get it to work, thus:
5000 Beholder Beholder 1 0 1 1 1 **** c_reeBeholder c_reeBeholder **** **** **** c_reeBeholder_skel 1 **** 0 0 Beholder Beholder **** 1 L 1 1 1 **** **** NORM 1.75 2.7 0.8 0.8 1 0.9 1.7 H 1 1 1 1 **** 4 9 0 0 1 60 30 Beholder_head 6 1 1 **** ****
What I've added is simply **** before the first entry of "c_reeBeholder".
You probably should update your .2da, though.
Again - helt fantastisk, mann. :-) _________________________ best regards,
fk

I wish I could vote a 100, but a 10 is all I'm allowed. I will say one thing, though, the creators of the game should be implementing these into the core game since having a spells.2da, appearance.2da, etc is really not good to have in the HAK. I was using the Dragonmen hack that had the same setup, and then found after installing SOZ that the Yuan-Ti and other models did not show. Hence, why it can become a maintenance nightmare for pw'ers and modders. _________________________ Brian S. Bloom

Brilliant work, just what our PW needed.

Man, everytime I see this thing, I just want to take all the work I did during the week and toss it out the window. No way I can compete with this.
On the other hand, it was worth getting slaughtered in SoT2 just to see these things in action. _________________________ "I am sitting in the smallest room of my house. I have your review before me. In a moment it will be behind me."

I would honestly pay $20-$30 if you produced much of the missing creatures listed in the base Monster Manual.
I really think Atari should let and encourage you to do so if you wished.

A truly excellent custom creature! Clearly the best custom monster addition in NWN2 to date. _________________________ Three Headed Troll Art Wurks
Absolutely fantastic. I have what I hope is a simple request. Kids! Little boys and girls that I can dress in something other than the tattered rags the Obsidian model comes dressed in. bodies can be the same for either gender with male and female heads and hairdos. a semi-nude model can also be depicted in a tropical/equatorial climate. can you help me there?
