After years of fighting wars with countrys you can not even remember the names of, you return home only to find your kingdom overrun with creatures you only thought existed in your dreams. With no one brave enough to help you, you decide to rid the land of these creatures by yourself. Live or die no one takes what you have fought so hard to keep.
Your name is King Gordon Featherfoot known throughout the land as the most fearsome warrior to have ever ruled. Now is the time to stand tall and defend what is yours.......or could this be your FINAL JOURNEY ?
The Final Journey was my first attempt at makeing A module with the new NWN2 tool set. But with my work schedule I really don't have the time to devote to it right now, so i turned it into a level 20 hack-n-slash for a friend of mine, but i thought maybe I would upload it for others to enjoy too. I also added the character the story is based on. The mod has only been play tested with this character and he is a level 20 Dwarf fighter so I don't know how other classes will do in this adventure. I added a merchant with all the items in the game, A level-up & gold giver so you can build your own character if you choose to. Theres a large castle with over 50 rooms in it and a lot of treasure to be found. Actually there is to much treasure but who really cares about treasure in a hack-n-slash mod.
Feel free to use this mod or any part of it as you wish. I have used some things I found in the NWVAULT so if you see any of your work I would like to thank you and everyone who uploads their hard work for us to enjoy and use.

Pure Hack'n'Slash, don't expect any story at all. The area design has some good ideas (I liked the elven/dwarf fort, the swamp in the beginning, and some have areas are very atmospheric due to good lighting and well-placed VFX), but often they are poorly executed. Rooms with repretitive interior are standard. Another example is a very long table that was stretched in one direction maybe by a factor of 10. This looked really bad, because the texture was completely distorted. The premade character is also not much fun. Lots of HP, but a AC in the mid-twenties (when I was playing the OC, Khelgar had over 40 in the end), and the only tactical variation is switching from bow to melee and toggling power attack on and off. Even knockdown was missing. So you just step into the fight, and drink a healing potion when your HPs get low.
As the author said in the description, he didn't have much time to build the mod. That's sad, because I think he has the skills to make a good mod if he takes the time. According to the voting standards, I vote 2.75.

A straight forward hack and slash. It was fun, mostly, but don't like playing someone else. _________________________ The road to Ravenloft is paved with good intentions.

erthule, I can asure you this was no Copy Paste module. If you have seen the areas in another module, then they were from this one......
D/L your folder and went to open it and got this message: The Compressed (zipped) folder is invalid or corrupted. Thought I should bring that to your attention. _________________________ "Let the Dragon ride again on the winds of time. The Prophecies will be fulfilled. The Dragon is Reborn."

Pros:
*Gigantic Maps
*Neat Setup area for you to prepare your character for the mod
*Level 20 content, which is rare.
Cons:
*Mobs are low-level and annoying, the majority of the battles consist of having to deal with a large number of low-level creatures, making this pretty boring.
*Too easy. Played as a L16 Dwarf Fighter, found it to be not challenging at all.
*No XP Balance. Made for a L20 character before the MOTB expansion. However, it doesn't take much to ensure the creatures are giving a reasonable amount of XP. (It's a global value in the Toolset.)
*Not balanced/QAed. Lots of placeholder stuff.
The search for decent level 15+ community content continues :) _________________________ Smorpheus' Toolset Visual Index Link

Eh. As advertised, its a level 20 hack'n'slash, but this wasn't much fun for me. No suspension of of disbelief, no internal consistency or even a basic coherent storyline.

Just wanted to add my views on the module. I've read Zaxthegrey's comments and I would have to say that I agree with their pro and cons completely and more importantly you've taken those on board already so I'll so add in some other points.
Pros.
Merchant, Gold, Levelup etc as a pre-starter to your module was an excellent idea! What this does is allow you to tidy up a recently exported character from the end of another game and get all their character and kit sorted out ready to face the new module with a clean slate. A very good idea, please keep that up for future modules!
Cons.
The graphics in some areas were repeated and regular too often. Take the bridge area in the open where the spiders come at you if you look across at the tree line over the bridge it looks very regular and you loose the 'natural' feeling to the area. The same can be true of large flooring area (outside and inside), you start to see the repeated pattern in the graphics and that kind of takes you out of the game mood for a bit. If you keep areas smaller or break up regular patterning that this and try to keep it looking more natural then players will get a better sense of immersion in your mod.
Some of the castle levels are too large, the one that springs to mind is the tomb area, with the skeletons patrolling around. That room could have been half the size it was and it would still have given me the same experience of a 'new room, new monsters' etc.
Castle Layout. It's been mentioned before but I think it very important so I'll say it again and that's the 'flow' of your castle area is very confusing. Make sure that stairs going up lead to a new floor as this allows people to clear one floor of enemies before moving onto the next. We don't want linear maps but rational/logical ones we do.
Randomness, avoid this as much as possible. This applies to the monsters and the design of the interiors, better to pick a theme and stick with it. Why would ogres be in the castle while there are still guards in there? ...perhaps they have just taken over the lower levels etc and my job is to clean them out? ...that's my sort of thinking on that. There has to be a reason why things are the way they are and this of course needs to be portrayed to the gamer somehow.
Overall though I'm glad that I played the mod and I'm glad that you've written one for L20 characters so thank you for that. I can see clearly that you've got talent and I think following the advice on this page will make your next level a real nice one, which I look forward to playing. Keep up the good work.
Cheers
Brelin

I nearly totally agree with theobeau - but furthermore I'm asking myself why should one be in need for a H&S mod at this level considerung the level cap at 20?
Well, I'm still playing it with my Level 17 warrior somehow - and even he does get almost NO XPs slaughtering all that junk crawling around! At first glance this seems to be a contradiction considering the TIME he needs to kill the enemies, but their attack force is apparently low, thus the low XP evaluation!? Which in the end is even more boring... _________________________ Aka Gront0307 - because of a second adress..;-)

Thanks Brutus.....I have an arena area setup for now while I work on the design I have in my head :P
The edited version I have up and running isnt complete and will change a little more with the creatures but the castle areas will remain the same.
Mostly will be adding some elite creatures and a few additional areas I created along with a custom item and weapon merchant.
Mod turned out to be an awsome starting point for me. If I run into any prbs I will hit ya up...help is always welcome. :D

Some brief comments (minor spoilers....)
* A number of the castle's rooms were really well designed.
* I enjoyed the introductory section and the transformation into a sprite (though the reduction in STR meant he was flying really slowly....)
* There was a lot of wandering up and down stairs
* Why were the castle's rodents so powerful? Why were there so many of them?
* I personally would have liked a little more explanatory text and NPC interaction while wandering around the castle (though I realise it is listed as a H&S)
Still, a good initial effort and I look forward to your future work.
DemonLords...I'm glad you found a use for this mod. I came into your server the other day. Can't wait to see your arena done. If theres anything I can help you with just let me know . The flying area I couldn't get to bake either .

Very fun hak and slash mod for singlle player.
I am currently hosted a modified version of your mod. I had to remove a few areas :( like the flying area as well I spoke with Summit about it and it will not bake so I wasnt able to get a pwc file for multiplayer use. LOTS!!! of creatures in the mod that area fun to just take off and kill for a few. This mod worked out great for me to use as a Hack n Slash/Arena mod. Great work on the mod.

Fun hack n slash. Loads and runs excatly as it should, nothing new or ground breaking, but you told us that before we d/l'd it. When looking at the item placement and design, I believe when you decide to put a complete adventure together it will be well worth waiting for.
Nice job. _________________________ Help is good when asked for,

Does this module have any end? Im already dizzy by walking up and down.
The castle reminds me of Ravenloft modules. With less lightening, the atmosphere would have become spookier. Very nice area/room designs.

Over 1400 Downloads and only 5 Votes? Come on people, atleast give a Vote. These people work hard to give you something to play.......
larsdiening I don't know why your having A problem downloading. I had a couple friends download it and theirs is working fine.I wish I could help you but I'm not sure what the problem is.
Pretty good hack and slash.
I especially liked reading the 14 lines of text first....wish the text was longer though...I'm not afraid of reading like some people are... :))

I enjoyed this and the scenery was outstanding. No point in collecting treasure as it had no meaning. Good variety of monsters but making everything 4 exps didn't make sence although exps is meaningless to level 20 character. No place to recover level drains.
Okay my main problem maybe that I am dumb here.lol There is a ton of things to place here and there after the d/l. Personally I have no idea where they go so I can play your module. So for those of us who love to play and have little or no idea concerning the mod building processes, could you throw me a bone, and tell me where stuff should go?
Zax:Thanks for reviewing the mod the way you did. Its nice to hear the pro's and con's of your work.I also liked the advise you gave and you will see a lot of it in any future mods I build.I find that most people only harp on the bad points of the game......it's funny most of those people never release anything for us to play or review.

This was as advertised, a basic hack-n-slash without any plot or role-play. It's a fine first effort and shows you have creativity, talent and a lot of promise as a module builder. There were many nice elements and some areas that need a bit of improvement. With some more work, it could be even more enjoyable.
*** Spoilers ***
Pros
- It's great to have a module designed for L20 characters. We all need something to do after the OC, so thank you for making something for a high level character.
- Impressive, well crafted visual effects. There were beautifully constructed visuals in both inside areas and outside areas. The interior really used some interesting placeables and I appreciated all the attention to detail here.
- The flying in the swamp section was a really nice touch. The polymorph area in general was well conceived and well executed.
- Really good variety of terrain and tilesets used throughout the many areas both inside and outside. I liked the placement of monsters that required a range weapon. That was a good touch.
- Some very well designed areas, for example I really liked the elven archers and lich, with secret door in the other room. Very nice.
- No bugs encountered. A couple monsters seemed stuck in place and couldn't walk over to attack me, but otherwise no problems to speak of.
- I liked the sexy outfits on some of the characters. A little bit of this goes a long way and you didn't seem to overdo it.
- Overall it was obvious a lot of work went into this extensive module. I really appreciate it.
Cons
- Way too many rats. It's fun to have a few rooms with many low level monsters so the player can really let go with Great Cleave. But more than a few of those just gets annoying. I can understand adding a few rats and bats for effect, I felt this was way overdone and it decreased my enjoyment of playing the module.
- The monsters are just too simple and therefore not interesting for a level 20 character. After killing a demi-god King of Shadows in the OC, battling skeletons, bugbears, giant spiders, zombies, bats and rats just was not fun for me. I didn't run into anything even close to a L20 monster.
- Story - If I'm supposed to be retaking my own castle after returning from saving the world, how about some clues about what came and took over my castle? How about some dead or dying former servants around to tell me what happened and make me really mad and want to kill all the bad guys? Perhaps a loved one held captive that needs saving? Anything like that would help set the context and make the module more interesting.
- The monster choices just seemed too random. It would be more enjoyable and feel more realistic if there was a theme or progression to some major bad guys. Over here I'm killing rats, over there I'm killing mind flayers, over there I'm killing zombies, there was something missing for me.
- The layout of the castle was confusing. It was very large and hard to navigate with many dead ends, which made it difficult for me to know when I was "done". Having map pins with names would help a lot, especially since NWN2 does not allow me to place pins of my own. Was there a really nasty boss somewhere down below or up on the top level that I was supposed to find? I never found one and figure I might have just missed it. I went up to where the stairs up don't go anywhere. Was there an "end" with a climactic dialog about how I'd "never live to retake my castle," blah, blah, then a final fight?
- Also, the room transitions sometimes didn't make sense, e.g. going downstairs through a door on an island in the swamp and coming out on top of a mountain. I'd recommend using another kind of transition, e.g. a teleport in order to maintain some kind of physical consistency. That would make it feel more real and immersive.
- I realize this was really a trainer module for you, but why not add a few subquests? Perhaps some people in distress and the hero needs to go on a fetch quest? That way you could practice using the Journal and practice dialog as well.
- I loved the Mini elf/dwarf town room, but it would have been fun to do something more with that idea.
- It would have been nice to have a store / smithy / alchemists shop somewhere in the castle.
- There was some treasure placed so I could not pick it up.
Overall an OK hack-n-slash with some talented design. It seemed targeted more at level 12 characters rather than L20. A promising first effort.
Thank you for putting it out for us to play.
