The Mount of Evil Counsel was ruled by a dreadful and powerful witch for many, many years. With the help of her minions the witch gathered helpless children from places near and far, to satisfy her ever-growing hunger for tender human meat. But one day, a certain child was sent to her who changed everything.
The Mount of Evil Counsel is a very short, single player only module, designed for a 1st level human character. It can be finished using diplomacy, stealth or combat exclusively, or through a combination of them. This module was originally designed for Obsidian's "Grimm's Fairy Tales" mod making contest, so expect a suitable scope, theme and style.
Race: Human only for story purposes.
Level: 1st, and no XP is given.
Class: Fighter and Rouge fit the story better, and will probably have an easier time. Spellcasters might not be able to finish.
Alignment: Good-Evil axis is set to neutral at the beginning and is often used. Law-Chaos Axis is ignored.
Skills and Feats: If you intend to take the diplomatic route, make sure you have maximum Diplomacy, Bluff and Intimidate. If you want the stealthy route, invest in Hide, Move Silently, Sleight of Hand and Disable Device. Open Lock, Spot and Listen might also come in handy.
Name: You will be seeing your character's name a lot, so it's best to choose something appropriate (think "Tom Thumb", or "Cinderella").
No quest or combat experience is given because the module is so short it seemed pointless. Also, I felt that it didnt fit the style fairy tale heroes (unlike fantasy heroes, perhaps) dont grow and learn during their journey. They solve the problem with whatever skills and abilities they have, and then, at then end, they change dramatically. The story here is very different from a classical fairy tale story, off course, but I still thought that this decision served the mood and style well.
Can you explain why do you consider it to be unpolished and unfinished?

Firstly, I'm not sure why the XP scale was set to zero. I don't see the point so I changed that before starting. Once I did I liked it. The story and atmosphere were very creepy. Far from polished this module was clearly spawned from an imaginative mind. I started to like my character so I lost the nerve to go upstairs. It'd be a worthwhile idea to finish this, giving XP for quests and setting the scale back to 10.
The stump is located next to the cabin, to the right. Note that it only becomes useable once the little man has told you about it.
The well isnt connected to the stump or the little man. It is, however, connected to the pail in the pen, which is probably harder to notice then it should have been. Together they form the stealthy way to get rid of the shepherd in order to free the sisters, kill them, stop him from helping the witch in a fight or just for the heck of it.

An enjoyable little adventure. Very interesting, with good variety of alternatives. I never found the stump, or found the purpose in disabling the well; so I assume these were related. But very entertaining. Definately worth the time.

Forgot to mention - the PC wasn't exported at the end, despite being given XP _________________________ Wyrin

6 - Good, Qualified Recommendation. +0.75 for clever writing, interesting set up, and good execution.
OK after a few false starts, I enjoyed this little adventure - i tried with some characters, but then needed a min-maxed build to get past the first fight. Seemed a lot easier as a rogue than a fighter. The exterior area is nicely built, and the various characters interesting - held together by a nice use of storytelling. A few points needed expanding upon IMO - it wasnt always clear why I picked up certain items, and some descriptions or explanatory conversations would have been nice. Not sure if I missed something with the trader and the well, as nothing seemed to happen for me there (even with maxed disable device).
Enjoyed the finale and using my wits to defeat the witch - that played out nicely. But sadly over all to quickly
Good work - be nice to see some longer work from you ;) _________________________ Wyrin
