I do not like the story.

Lowering the avarage for the horrible ending
Still waiting on a mod that lets me go toe to toe with kelemvore, the wall is BS and epic characters have plenty of power to challenge a god.

I liked this too, although it's strange we're voting on it.

I played it twice. To see the good ending, and the bad ending. This about sums it all up, since I'm not replaying anything that takes more than 1 hour.
But if I was to write more about this masterpiece, I would point out:
1. Excellent new music. Yes. Music adds much, very, very much, to the overall feeling. Many people forget about putting custom music in their modules, and this retracts from the experience. Here is not the case. The music is simply enchanting.
2. The spirit meter. It adds some planning, cunning (you can deal with it in a few different ways) and *urgency* to the game. And, last but not the least, realism.
3. New creatures, models, areas, concepts.
4. Story. I simply love it. It's deep, enchanting, so deliciously dark, so... well. I could go like this all day.
5. Characters. Gone are the days of the bland creatures from OC. Now I really liked my companions and felt attached to them.
6. Areas. New and beautiful.
It is a masterpiece for me.

Overall pretty excellent. Thanks for the high-level module. Hope an epic sequel comes along. Far too few modules make use of epic levels and feats, and the low-level stuff is just boring (oh no, another solitary kobold!). Didn't like the spirit eater curse timer, but once I figured out how to DebugMode that one away, it was a very enjoyable module, with an interesting and provocative storyline. I quite enjoyed the shadow side of the areas, and talking to Myrkul (what a scene!).

I loved this expansion! The story I thought was amazing, interactions with the NPCs was amazing. The atmosphere was amazing.
My only ripe was that I would have wanted to see an ending were th wall was torn down and teh disaster that Kelemvor mentioned would play out as an ending scene.
Voice actors were remarkable.
I have to admit that when it first came out I didnt like it at all and never fifnished it. Now with some time, I restarted it and finished it with two different endings and I loved it so much!

Thank god, a good official expansion! I played SoZ (which is crap) before playing MoTB and I have to say I wasn't too much confident about it...I have to say I was wrong! I really did enjoyed it! Dark atmosphere, interesting companions! I was really catched up with the story and I found the oniric ending awesome! Plus, I find it quite well balanced, hard thing to find around, especially when you're playing such uber characters...I guess someone could be bothered by the spirit-meter-system but I think that was great, it helps the RPGing.

@Makumba..
I completed MoTB the first time through without consuming a single spirit (besides the ones you are compelled to via quests). This was a role playing choice for me (I fought the hunger). Simply suppress before resting. Suppress before traveling. Had zero craving and no problems with spirit level.
The few times I found myself at 70% or so, I just suppressed / traveled / suppressed back and forth a couple times (between places close by like ashenwood and the burning grove). Never entered any dungeon or major zone at less then 90+%.
MoTB was a great campaign. Great story. If the spirit meter isn't your thing than you can make it a non-issue the same way I did.

This is worst expansion, or worst RPG game mechanic I'we seen in my life. Managing castle in original version was a tedious and rather boring process, but it is nothing compared to new invention of MOTB authors - hunger. I actually dont even think it is possible to complet game without cheating - raising hunger bar. I've heard that there are plenty places, where spirits could be found etc. - bullshit! Even if you find plenty spirits in one place you still need to rest, which takes about half of bar + you get more hungry when traveling between locations. Often you are forced to return some locations to "feed" etc. Even more - when you go to another location you must calculate would you have enough "gas" to return back, or you die somewhere. Damn! I consider RPG distincts from taxi simulation by the first is all about free roaming having hunger bar and losing 10% every hour makes this expansion unplayable, abominable piece of*bleep*!
I am fan of sequel since Baldurs Gate and now I can tell without any doubts - I hate Neverwinter!

Agree with gpap93, Akatchi the man = toast. On the other hand Akatchi as the spirit hunger = epic struggle!

Took a little while to get use to it and the feel, the change from the OC. After growing into the story and that the spirit meter truly makes one feel cursed, I really appreciated the attention to detail and the character development if you chose to pursue it. I tend to think many under appreciate this mod. Had a blast with it after a little learning curve and letting my depth of thought delve into the play.

This is a good expansion of the original NWN2 campaign. As for the spirit eater, it was annoying but you have supress and satiate if no spirits are near. All in all good job, but in my opinion Akachi was piece of cake.

The original campaign for NwN2 was a huge letdown after playing NwN1. But MotB is great, really bought my hopes back up for the future of NwN2

I buy this complement for NWN2, and I was very deceived.
1- Ok, the graphic is good, but not that good.
2- I was not able to play it when I have some other modules, It crash and all the trigers doesn't work. I have to completly remove all the modules I have in the override in my documents.
3- I doesn't like a scenario when you are constantly dying because of that appetite for souls. I try 7 perso to finaly give up. So, I never finish this scenario, because of that reason.
Why do a campaign when the perso died everytime at the 1/3 of it.
4- Finaly, I buy this campaign only to be able to install far more better modules and campaigns done by all the great people with great imagination.
Yeah! On my point of view, This campaign sock's...

I must admit that like may others, I did dislike the spirit meter thingy more than I liked it (I did like it, too, in some respects). _________________________ Forgotten Realms Weave

Good stuff. Except that I still wonder who keeps leaving those treasures in them barrels. Also, the epic levels could've been handled with somewhat lighter treasure and without the "epic gnoll" -style opponents. But still, the writing, the story, the characters, the new content... As an NWN2 module, this clearly is a masterpiece, genuinely groundbreaking. _________________________ Forgotten Realms Weave

Roughly 3 hours into it i found myself longing for the OC. Only to find they did not update the OC to allow about 20+ leveling when they released MoTB. New additions to the toolset were nice but seemed pretty skimp in comparison to what previous expansions in the series added(read SOU and HotU). Spirit meter removed any sense of NWN from the game. Seemed like they cared less what NWN fans have come to expect and more about trying to change the game dynamic.**
That's exactely the same thing I've been thinking, both with this expansion and the latest; Storm of Zehir. The game doesn't feel like Neverwinter Nights anymore. I had so much fun playing Neverwinter Nights 1 with expansions and the countless modules. I wish they could take a couple of steps back and just make a solid D&D RPG and stop ruining a perfectly good game with a lot of nonsence =( Voting 4.50 just for Gann. He was an interesting character, the rest sucked. Story? Hated it. Spirit meter? Hated it with a passion.

In terms of story, characters and roleplaying, Mask of the Betrayer excells and can be considered a top-notch RPG. I especially like the fact that the story and the game mechanics are intertwined by the original Spirit meter mechanics. A significant improvement over the lackluster original campaign in every aspect, this game is not perfect, but it arguably belongs among top 5 RPGs ever released.

Tells about everything.
Plus the "good" ending just sucks. This is the first game ever where I found the evil ending more satisfying than the good one.
