Continuation of the Subtlety of Thay series. Support of Ch 2 standalone has ceased.
Note that v1.4 and higher are compatible with SoZ. There are currently no means for me to reasonably test and maintain earlier versions or versions without SoZ. Play at your own risk.
Note that v1.4 is not compatible with v1.3 or earlier saves. If you have DLed v1.4 on a v1.3 or earlier save, DL the SoTHak1.3.7z file and replace the exiting 1.4 hak with that.
Installation: If you are unsure about how to install a NWN2 module, see the readme. There are detailed instructions on how to do so.
Always check to make sure you have the patch that matches the patch in this entry! You WILL find bugs if you don't, and I can't help you fix them if you're on an old patch.
Compatability:
This campaign has been tested with TonyK's AI, Kaedrin's PRC pack*, and ladydesire's PRC pack*
*Note that there is a caveat with these two pieces of community content. See readme for details.
Frequently Asked Questions/Issues
Q: The combat is really hard.
A: Yes, it is. givexp from the console or using a higher than recommended level character are both options if you don't like hard combat. I do, and designed it that way. Nothing is impossible to defeat at the level range recommended, though.
Q: Help! I can't level up Aleandra, it crashes when I try!
A: You need to update your game to 1.13 or later.
Q: When Aleandra joins my party, she is a warlock. That doesn't seem right.
A: It's not. You either didn't install the mod correctly, removed the packages.2da from the override, or have another packages.2da in the override conflicting with it. Make sure it's the only one in there and try again. She should be a cleric.
Q: I'm trying to get into House Scipi's basement, but the fog of war doesn't disappear.
A: Use WASD movement to get in there. It's some kind of weird engine bug where when you open that door the fog of war doesn't disappear from the room. Just walking in will make it disappear, but since you can't click that area you need to use keyboard movement. I can't fix that.
Q: I'm on the Botuf the Black quest chain, and I can't find the elven tribune...
A: There's only two "elven" buildings in the city, and it's in the basement of one of them. It's a little difficult to access so you'll have to find a way.
Q: I don't know who my patron house is after the banquet.
A: It's in your journal.
House Scipi - located in the noble district, he's upstairs in the bedroom.
House Danworth - located in the noble distrct, he's in a room to the left of the front door at the head of the table.
House Scipi - located in the Market. He's standing near a fireplace on the first floor.
House Halvasyn - located in the Noble district. She's right in front of you when you enter.
The Apprentices - located in the Palace in the throne room, the woman in purple.
The Palace - located in the Palace, the guy sitting on the throne.
Q: Help, I'm lost and don't know what to do next...
A: It's very important you pay attention to what's going as you play. A lot of things happen and aren't repeated or referenced again, and sometimes you need to take into consideration what you do know and figure things out on your own. You can contact me about that and I'll be more than happy to help you, but keep this in mind as you play and you may not find the need to.

I am rather sure that the author abandoned the "Subtlety of Thay" mod, but I hope anyone could at least give me a few hints or advice. (I'm checking here every odd month or so, and have no problems with putting this mod on ice until somewhen. :) The difficult combats or the resting restrictions don't bother me, I appreciate the style in fact. What bothers me more are several plot things. I finished the main quests up to saving the city from Lord Spoiler and the return of the Simbul. At this point, all which was left for me was hunting down Mur Vhol in the Yuirwood... but... - Aleandra complains each time I want to leave for the Yuirwood, that we have to find Botuf first. So far, that's a task easy to understand. I searched the whole damn city several times and there is no way to find him. My last clue were two books in the library which I read. The journal still remains at the point "the next clue might be in the library". I was now even willing to replay that bit, undoing several days of questing in the city, but the same happened: I went to the library, looked up the books, but nothing happens, even when I leave the library and run around a bit. What is supposed to happen, then? - The next problem is ran into: When checking every inch in every house for Botuf (after the return of the Simbul) I found that I now have a new dialog option in the thieves guild, so that I can enter the second room with the boss. I went for that and agreed to get involved in the Whiteghost quest. However, Aleandra left the party when I did so, telling me that she could be found "in her quarters." Searching the complete city again, I just can't find her, neither in my palace quarters, nor in the Paladins Inn, and neither in House Locke (completely rebuilt). NOW, in case I already killed Whiteghost before meeting the guild, I get a completely different dialog when I first meet the guild boss: "Is he dead yet?" - "Yes, here is the ring". So, in this dialog, Aleandra isn't triggered to leave, but I'm not too happy about this turn of events. Worse yet, the boss sends me to their market headquarters when I finished the "initial" quest... wait, headquarters? He means, this gambling ring that I accidentaly completely trashed very early in the game, doesn't he? Yes, he does. o.O The complete story up to the banquet was definitly absorbing, and I even started to write a Walkthrough since dirtywick never provided one. It was simply LOTS of fun. But after the banquet, with Red and Lowe gone, it became just increasingly frustrating since I had to save+reload for many of the Velprintalar quests to happen in the right order. Loading screens, running around, replaying already finished quests and misfiring triggers really took the fun out of it :(

I think this is the best campaign in the vault. HUGE work took place to provide such a marvelous result. The script is very well written, it absorbs you into the story and its almost perfect artistically as well. It makes me sad that such lovely work is not appreciated by members of the vault as any grade bellow 9.00 is unfair to such an attempt. I agree with Xzar that I would pay dirtywick to stimulate him in finishing chapter 3.

Well in the author's own words: Q: Help, I'm lost and don't know what to do next... A: "It's very important you pay attention to what's going as you play. A lot of things happen and aren't repeated or referenced again, and sometimes you need to take into consideration what you do know and figure things out on your own. You can contact me about that and I'll be more than happy to help you, but keep this in mind as you play and you may not find the need to. " Sorry but I have a wife, a life, things to do. I can't play every week much less every night. Unless the dialog outputs to a file I can go over when I resume there is no way I can play through this one. _________________________ Too much ammo is a self correcting problem.

I have to agree with Xzar, I'd gladly pay $60 for Chapter 3. I know you can't charge, but I'd pay if you could.

This game deserves a 10 rating. ***I'm willing to pay 60$ for Chapter 3, and I'm sure hundreds' more players would do so as well*** This mod was more enjoyable to play than commercial games with a budget in the tens of millions. I really liked the quests with VERY flexible outcomes, the engaging story, immersive atmosphere and detailed companions/NPCs. I was amazed by the immense attention to detail noticeable throughout this mod. ***Minor spoilers below*** I really liked Furio as a character. I felt bad for him because he worked really hard yet was overlooked by his superior Vincento. He believed in a meritocracy but felt slighted. He may take ruthless measures, but those measures are always logical and clever. He's a criminal, but felt real. If there is a chapter 3 I hope we get to see more of him. At first when I played an evil PC, I hated the Simbul (didn't know much about her in the official lore). But when I played as a neutral PC, and spoke with her after her return, she was really well portrayed in this mod, and everything she said made a lot of sense. Just one question about the Evil ending, which had really nice roleplaying despite being brief. My evil PC still felt like an indomitable character when he spoke to Mishka and told her with full confidence that he wouldn't allow them to die there in the snow, and convinced her not to give up. So my question about the Evil ending... does the Simbul eventually kill the PC and Mishka with her own hands, or is she just trailing them, expecting the PC to die a long, tortuous death? If the Simbul does not kill them directly, it's possible for a PC with Protection from Energy to survive the cold, and he could eat from the item called A Troll in a Jar :D So what exactly is the official interpretation of the Evil ending?

Well just finished and although there was plenty of stuff I didn't like I still fell I must give a 10. It comes down to what you can reasonably expect from a single maker product. The combat is really hard, I had to play on easy, which I never do otherwise, usually play on hard or DD. mild SPOILER That you are stuck with some of the must unreliable *bleep*sups in faerun as sidekicks doesn't make i any easier. Or how about the aasimar sorcerer (wtf??) who is a whole spell level behind a human wizard of the same level. Or the bard. I hate bards, they are not really good at anything. Not even a decent fighter, instead you get the ranger, universaly hated througout the nwn community (or at least it should be). Only decent companion is the cleric. Since you don't get a rogue or anyone who can cast knock (as if you were allowed to rest anyway) you are more or less required to fill this role for yourself. Which is ok I guess but all other levels should go into some sort of high STR melee type. imo Some of the combat is just frustrating and annoying. For example the troll who is immune to fire and acid. I still don't know how to kill this guy, I just knocked him out and looted his chest while he was napping. Very laggy in some fights, due to the massive amount of npcs, without really improving the experience. No need to have npcs fighting eachother on other parts of the map that I can't even see. Just to lag me, those bastards... I think I liked the first part the best. It just lost a lot of pace around the caravan part which it never really picked up again. Did anyone find a way to gain a lordship? Least I deserve.. The models were very well done and interesting. However I found the simbul model to be lacking in taste somewhat. Not very buggy all-around imo. Except for the takeoever quest which was a pain, lag- and bugwise. A solid 10 all around. Thank you sir for letting me enjoy this. :)

@NMorozov You have to enter House Halvasyn manor. I had the same problem with the household being alive. I belive they are supposed to be dead. I reloaded and entered again and they were all dead. Then you have to go to the top floor and enter the lady Halvasyn's room (largest one) for the quest to finish. So it's rather bugged to my best knowledge. So to sum it up you need to reload an earlier game, possibly from before you saved Danworth. That worked for me. Hope that helps. In general keep saving in different slots at this stage of the mod since it's rather unstable and buggy.

I have completed House Danworth in Danger, im must go to palace and get some reinforcements. But The palace does not permit to enter. If I enter (yousing the bugs) in does nothing. House Halvasyn in Danger can't complete lady Halvasyn say me that they will hold, and nothing canged in the journal

I just finished my second paly through this module. If I hadn't already given it a 10 I would gladly do so again. Played an evil-ish druid this time and took some different choices from my first run. I discovered a lot of new things and I can only add to my review from last year that it has a lot of replay value. Probably my fave mod on the vault and that there is no part 3 is still a huge bummer.
