The Sinister Series Part I of III - Dilating Dimensions
---
Looking for a new challenge in your career, you decided to reply to a job offer of the dark and notoriously evil company "sinister inc." The company is looking for a sturdy adventurer to carry out assignments in the field directly delegated from the top management. Not much is known in public about that organization, rumor has it that it is run by an old ferocious black dragon who employs the skills of a number of agents to further the company's interests. At least the payments seem to be handsome. With anticipation you eagerly await the job interview...
Little do you know about the adventure awaiting you....
Dilating dimensions is a huge story-driven single player module that might appeal to everyone with a taste for black humor and an interesting storyline with many unexpected turns, difficult battles, unusual items and charismatic characters.
Length: approx. 6 hours
GAMEPLAY:
The module is designed for a new level 1 male character, melee classes might have a considerable advantage in the battles (especially the exotic weapon feat might be handy). Playing it with a female character is a very bad idea, since the conversations were written for a male one.
The alignment should not matter at all and will not be modified in the game. You will also find some items in the game that might help you to fight with a refined strategy instead of using brute force. For some quests there are also often various ways to accomplish an objective, though the design is linear to some extent. Quests don't have to be done in a particular order, but they are usually connected to the storyline and should be completed before the next major development of the plot. There are more battles than in the two other parts of the series, but none of the encounters or bossfights should be particularly difficult.
CONVERSATIONS:
Conversations play an important role in this mod and you will meet many NPCs to converse with. Usually the conversations are rather straightforward and do not offer an abundance of options. I did not include any skillchecks or conditions that depend on the player's class or race, since I believe it's more fun that way. Sometimes your companions might want to say a line or two, so keep them close.
COMPANIONS/HENCHMEN
In the game you will encounter two characters who can be added to your party. One will join you at the beginning, she is one of the series' major characters and you will need her to complete the game. Later you can also recruit another NPC for some time. You will get a special item to resurrect them when they die.
ITEMS:
You will find plenty of magical items and armors in the game and enough of shops that buy them. Since most enemies drop their equipment you can easily get a lot of gold. If you don't know what to buy, spend it on healing potions. And after you've left the city, shopping will be more difficult with only one shop available.
RESPAWNING:
Respawning usually takes you back to a respawn point in the city and will not be sanctioned in any other way. After you've gone through the portal, respawning will not allow you to continue, so it's a good idea to save often. Note that there is one conversation after which you will always die. This is part of the storyline and can't be avoided.
That's all...
Have fun
If you like the game, or not, or just want to tell me your opinion, feel free to drop me a line (You can also write me in German).

This is definitely one of the most unusual mods I've played - very enjoyable! I wasn't thrilled to have a cohort I couldn't control (very much like NWN 1), but the story was interesting as were the characters. Murphy's Law: Whatever can go wrong, will go wrong...
I know is was not the best thing to force the player to die and many people were confused or annoyed by this, but currently there is no way to avoid this without tinkering with the scripts. This was my first mod and I'm not happy with some of my design decisions either, but since this is more of a parody than the other to mods, things shouldn't be taken so seriously...
I have a question - In reading the comments it looks like it is 100% certain that you die in this module in a conversation (plot reason?). For those of us old farts who played p'n'p and when we die, that is it... Is there any way to avoid this? Or can I jump straight to the 2nd module in the series?
Thanks!

What a nice and original module, I really had fun =)
I have to signal a serious bug though *SPOILERS*
In the last fight against Menthena, I destroyed the crystal behind her but the script didn't trigger so she was still invincible. If anyone has the same problem, you have to open your console and type:
runscript core_remove
*END SPOILERS*

What this mod lacks is a good walkthrough.
Anyway have a few questions :
Does Cordelia ever say anything else besides her " Why should I tell you anything" ? She never did change her response all through out the mod.
Second even after the bank heist I still was not allowed to sleep in the bed in the in, even though the pc expressed his desire to rest tere... bug?
Also :Cordelia Syclia (female elf ranger) for males. * require confirmation from player *
What exactly does this mean? What confirmation... and when more precisely?
Like I said this mod needs a good thorough walkthrough.

No seinsvergessen. I had no crash and no exported character, but I did have a good time nevertheless. I will go play part 2 now. :)
@Winwood: I think I put the command that should export your character in the end script. Some users reported crashes when this command is executed by the game, so maybe that's why you can't see your export after the last fight.

Will vote later but can it really be true there is no way of exporting your character after the last boss fight?

Actually, I've had pure fun with this mod. By seeing the first areas, I thought it was a bit rushed, so I played it only to test a new build. I ended up enjoying it greatly and went up to the end in a single play.
Combat intensive, story-driven nonetheless, I'll play the second part right away.

Very good module. Loved it on NWN 1 and still love it. Well done!
Yes, after the conversation with Menthena the player is expected to respawn. I'm not very happy about this and since a couple of people have reported troubles with respawning or were simply confused by this development, I abandoned the practise of creating fancy respawn scripts for my other mods. Hmm.. I can't think of a quick solution for this.. Sadly you'll miss about 1/4 of the mod if you stop here. And simply cheating with dm_jumptopoint won't do much good here because the respawn script should also set up Menthena for the final confrontation.

Apart from the painfully empty zones and poor punctuation/spelling issues, this is an interesting module. However, I have hit a showstopping bug that I can't seem to get around.
*SPOILERS*
I go through the Heart of Darkness to the fourth level and travel to the fifth. I talk to Manthena and I died. Ok, so I reload, only the game crashes whenever I try to load that last save. Tried five times, and got five crashes. What is the deal here? Am I supposed to respawn? If I am, then I'm screwed, because my respawn key is like my rest options in MotB- they highlight when selected, but don't do anything when I click on them. _________________________ BEEP!
Hey, this is Angel of Nessus. Not at the (COMMUNICATION DEVICE) right now; leave a message and go away. I probably won't answer, but I'll let you think I just didn't get the message. Oh, and if you're who I think you are, I have three things to say to you:
1. <I didn't do it>,
2. <Nobody saw me do it>, and
3. <You can't prove anything>.
You can leave a name or number, but like I said it probably won't do much good.
You can go now.
BEEP!

It seems the epilogue is somewhat buggy. When the boss is dead, a script is executed that should send the player to the epilogue after a few seconds. Now the problem is that this script can be interrupted, or maybe does not fire at all for some obscure reason. The epilogue is very short, but if you really don't want to miss it, there is a script to start the epilogue (startepilogue, I think). I think it should also work if you move away from combat to a corner and remain passive when the boss is about to die, in this case nothing should interrupt the script.
I just went to the 5th level, opened the prison, picked my companion up, and wen back to the roof to use a teleporter !
But I'm in front of another issue. I just killed the dragon and no epilogue trigger fired. And in my case, my two companions were alive. Is there any solution to have the epilogue ?
Or maybe you could tell me (us ?) on this page or by mail (to be sure of avoiding spoilers) ?
I think I've understood that I have to export my character now (just after the dragon killing) and launch the second module. Am I right ?
First of all: thank you for this mod ! I mean: for the whole series ! ;-)
I can imagine the time it takes to build a mod so I must congratulate you for offering us your work !
I'm just posting a comment because I'm stuck in the first module (I'll vote when I'm done with the third one !).
SPOILERS !!!!!
I killed Manthena and took the key from her body. I found the door at the end of this room to exit and arrived in another room where several chests are "waiting" to be used (sorry for my english: it's not my native language...). If I try to talk to them, nothing happens, neither if I try to fight them. My parrot companion doesn't say anything useful for this situation. Is there something I missed ?
If anybody could help me, he would make me a real favor ! ;-)
Hi Cincinnatus,
The big problem was that the final cut scene didn't trigger, and I'm speculating that it was because Cordy was dead. You mentioned somewhere that some cut scenes would break if she was too far away and that made me wonder.
As for a vote, I don't vote for mods as a matter of principle. Grade inflation means that I can't give a mod what I consider a fair score according to the standards without hurting the average. So I just don't vote at all. I've done this since NWN1 days. Hope you understand.
On the other hand, I do consider that one of the highest "votes" I can give a mod is to play the sequel, which I'm doing at the moment.
Hi,
I know about this bug with Cordy. I have been too lazy to fix it though, since it only occurs at the end of the game where it doesn't matter to have her in your party, since the only thing ahead is the epilogue ;)
Hi, again,
Evidently, the final cut scene didn't trigger for me, perhaps because Cordelia died. It worked on a replay though. And even so, my character does not seem to have been exported at the end. Was there experience and/or loot awarded for killing the dragon? I can export my character from before the fight for use in Part 2, but would hate to miss out on the experience.
BTW, I reached Level 14 just before the fight. The levelling up at the beginning put me to L12, not 11.
More trouble! I got out of HoD OK, went through all the cut scenes and then killed the dragon/Saddy Sane in the Underground Temple. Cordelia died in the fight and after I resurrected her, she was acting as if we were back in the HoD when it was flooding! She will not rejoin until I go back and open the door, which I have already done, unless that means the prison door. Do I have to reload back in the HoD and talk to her after I kill Menthena, in order to be able to continue in the Underground Temple?
Ho, Cincinnatus,
OK, I killed Manthena this time, and got the key, but I still cannot figure out how to exit the HoD. There is no access back to the entrance level.
Scratch that I just found Maldoror hiding in the ceiling lol so instead i'll say so far the modules great i've already downloaded the other two great job!
Hey I downloaded the module but I seem to be stuck in the arena Maldoror puts you in I looted my equiptment and now nothing else happens. I'm not sure what exactly i'm supposed to do from here...
