The King is dead, and you, the rightful heir have been betrayed! You must return home, set right what has been wronged, and reclaim your place as the country's new leader!
Betrayal is a single player module for Neverwinter Nights 2. The Mask of the Betrayer expansion is required to play this module (the later expansions are not).
This module is designed for a level 1 character of any class/race. A level 1 Cleric is provided as a companion. The module should take about 2-4 hours to play. You should expect to achieve approximately level 3-4 by the end of the game.
Betrayal focuses on story, adventure, and gameplay strategy with mild role playing. There are many choices to be made in conversations that will affect how you proceed through the game. On top of that, there are multiple different endings!
There is no permanent death (unless both you and your companion die, and in then there is no respawning), but combat will be challenging, especially for spellcasters and ranged classes. Resting is allowed according to the basic NWN2 rules, and you'll need it.
Features:
 Story driven gameplay
Conversational decisions that can affect the outcome of the story
Multiple endings with numerous paths to each one!
Puzzles to solve in order to progress
Challenging combat (anytime resting is allowed but respawning is not - save often!)
Beautiful scenery and dramatic cinematics (check out the screenshots!)
 Humorous easter egg bits
Fan comments:
"cut scenes were well thought out"

A very nice little adventure. I played through with a Bard, and I am glad that there were some use of Diplomacy and Bluff. Two things could improve, as far as I am concerned - the last castle seemed a little empty, perhaps it should have been made smaller? And the very last battle was a bit to easy. But then, maybe I just got lucky. Thumbs up!

Very cool but too short.

Started out alright, but then it became too controlling--too many areas with no escape backward, surrounded by strong enemies.
Thanks again to everyone for your comments!
I did try testing with a couple different classes, but of course I couldn't test every one. I tried to balance it so it was a challenge, but not too hard. Not sure which traps people are referring to. There aren't too many - the few that are disarmable aren't really deadly (unless you're low on health). There is one deadly one in the tower, but that's meant to be that way (and there's a warning for it). As for the locked doors in the castle, those are just for design - you can't go through them (and there's nothing on the other side).
At the moment I'm working on developing a new game (not related to NWN), so not working on this module. But maybe once I get more free time, I can work on finishing up the alternate route (and who knows, maybe a sequel).
And lol PJ, no, the lich is not supposed to be MJ. Glad to hear you got out of the tower. :)

Good Mod, I liked the tomb the best with things popping out of coffins

finished!
It was a bit short, but I still had a great time... It's not well-balanced for all classes, though. Don't, DON'T play a tiefling rogue like I did... The Horror! (but it's possible, with patience!). Fighters will have a much easier time. Thanks a lot! Build more of those!

Never mind the previous comment... Just thought I'd need a weapon against Big Z.

Ok, feeling dumb... I've got a rope soaked in alchemist fire, a bottle of distilled alcohol, a flint and steel - and what do I do with them? Tried putting them all on the craftsman table... but it's not working. You can't *use* the items either.

Great little Mod.. Nice combat, well balanced. Thanks.

Got to the end of this after a break.
This is a great module that I would recommend to anyone. Some really nice ideas, well balanced combat and a bit that made me jump nicely.
The traps were a bit overkill and in places hid some good loot but I think that was my only frustration.
I know from the forums that there is more to this in the making, I hope that we see the next chapter soon.

Hello artfoundry,
*** SPOILERS ***
Feeling pretty dumb here as other have got through but I am stuck in the wizards tower. I have done all I know how to (read the journal and spoke with the man in the mirror - is that Micheal J by the way, looks a bit like him) but can't get out.
I am having the same trouble with traps as Arkazelth. I am guessing you are trying to reward each class and that is cool but everyone is going to try everthing :).
Also once you change places, if that is the end you need to drop to main menu to make that clear.
Loving the mod, Micheal made me jump and that's the first time any mod has done that. I just need to get out of this darned tower.
Spoil me please, here or by PM.
PJ

Great module, looks like you put a good effort here. Nice story and good-looking areas (I loved the Black Forest in particular). Puzzles were a nice addition. Combat was ok for my Barbarian, though I guess some other classes may have a harder time at some points. I also liked the different choices (I tried to take the main road and get the "God" conversation) and the multiple endings.
The not so good: The only companion is a (pure) Cleric, and there are many locks and hard hitting traps. Based on this, one may be inclined to think that the module has been done with a Rogue PC in mind. Had I known of this, I would have taken Rogue skills even at half ranks, but I'm not sure if I could have disarmed most traps (some of them are insta-death). Also, some locked doors at the end area are unbashable, I don't know if they can be opened with skills. However, the first area is undead heavy, so not that good for Rogues.
Possible solutions to this: add a warning in the module description (and don't describe traps/locks as light, IMO), or give some fitting skills to the companion.
Another suggestion: There are several places (the inn, the tower...) with multiple floors, and a different area for each one. This means more loads and transitions. Load times aren't long because the areas are small, but I think it's better to make those areas slightly bigger and put every floor in the same one (e.g. one single area for both inn's floors).
I think that's all, everything else was great. I hope to see the unfinished parts soon, and I'm waiting for the sequel.

Fairly short, apparently partially uncomplete module, though what was there was nicely made. Played with a warlock PC on normal diff., sometime challenging but ultimately manageable. Liked the forest areas.

I really liked this module! The areas were well designed, and the story while straightforward was fun to follow. Overall good presentation. Didn't encounter any bugs either. Combat was pretty easy as a fighter, but that was to be expected. Hope you make another module sometime!
TheatrePenguin - yeah, in my testing, I'd see things like that occur every so often. Unfortunately I'm not sure if it's a bug in the game or in my module. Glad it worked out for you the 2nd time though.

Enjoyable mod. I'd recomend it to any one.

Okay, so I went back to previous save, repeated some stuff, met up with Lorvinda again, but this time, during the fight, a cut scene triggered, so now I have my closure and no longer feel "betrayed!" Must've been some computer/game glitch the 1st time through. Anyway, thank you, David, for the great little adventure. I hope to see a sequel soon.

This is a nice little adventure with a good mix of fighting along with the great puzzles and things. I had a good time right up until I entered Lovinda's suite at the palace. We had a conversation, then we fought. She was killed, and then, nothing. No end to the adventure, no completing the final quest in the journal, nothing. All the loot she left behind was 4 vampire arrows. There was no cutscene, no congratulations, anything. Did I miss something crucial here, or is that really the end with not even a thank-you-for-playing? I can't believe that was it! I'd love to vote with a good score, but I need closure!

Thanks for the heads-up, was just about to start it (literally). Looking forward to your next project if it's for NWN...
Thanks for the compliments guys!
roadsaint, just a heads up - I'm assuming you're referring to the "main road" as the other path - it's not completed (though if you go there, you'll get a humorous interaction). Just didn't want you spending another 30-60 min. only to find out you can't progress that way. I want to put that alternate route in in the near future, but I'm working on another project for now.

I had fun with this adventure.
This is well written with just the right amount of cut-scenes and puzzles.
I would recommend this to anyone looking for a way to spend a rainy afternoon.
Thanks for taking the time and spending the effort to present this to the community. _________________________ Help is good when asked for,

I created the zip file straight from my Mac's system. Original file is over 200MB. I'll take a look at 7zip though.

Hello. I don't know why people keep using outdated ZIP packer when 7zip gives a better compression ratio and it's free. Downloading 102MB at 30KB/s is not fun.
