Even though my name was never mentioned in the blog post, I'm the one who did the birds, so I figure I'll say a few words.
First, the windmill is a base model that came with the game. So, technically it WAS produced with Granny, but it was Obsidian who did it.
I had the wings flapping in 3dsMax, but have yet to put the time into it to get them exporting. So I just collapsed it down into a solid 'static' object. They look a little like tiny fighter planes, but, as you can see, their flight cycles work quite well.
However, the most noteworthy thing about these birds is that when I exported, they only had TWO keyframes set in 3dsMax. I'll leave it to the animators out there to figure out exactly what that means, but suffice to say, compared to NWN1, getting complex animations into NWN2 should be MUCH easier.
This looks very promising, did you the windmill in grany as well? also can you make the birds wings flap on ocation as well? or are they just moving static objects?
