Planetouched Genasi Revamp (v1.1)
For use with Neverwinter Nights 2: Mask of the Betrayer (v1.10~)
- by Varenus von Luckmann II
Introduction:
This add-on revamps, by popular demand, the Planetouched: Genasi subraces. It takes a step away from the PnP ability modifiers and favoured classes, and seek to tie it more closely to how the genasi is generally percieved and described. Instead of simply removing the ECL +1 from the genasi, I have given them new favoured classes, new ability modifiers for Fire Genasi and Air Genasi, as well as giving all the Genasi their corresponding Cleric domain for free, with whatever associated bonus feat (regardless of class).
All genasi now also recieve a bonus "low level" feat (Basic General Feat, Level 1 Background Feat or Basic Skill Feat)
I have also changed the in-game texts to mirror the changes made on all abilities, feats and domains that warrented it, aswell as race texts.
Installation:
1) Open with WinRAR.
2) Extract the dialog.tlk to the "Neverwinter Nights 2"-folder in "My Documents".
2) Extract all .2da-files to the Override Folder inside the "Neverwinter Nights 2"-folder in "My Documents".
3) ???
4) Profit.
Known Issues/Notes:
Only issue I have detected is that if you are a Genasi, and you level up as a Cleric, you are still able to choose whatever Domain you already have (Ex: A Fire Genasi Cleric, that get the Fire Domain for free, can still choose the fire domain upon gaining it's first level of Cleric. This does not result in duplicate domains).
A genasi cleric can have 3 domains. Whatever two domains it gets from being a Cleric, plus the 1 from simply being a Genasi. This works as intended. All abilities, extra feats and additional spells function properly. This means that all genasi are slightly better clerics than most other races. From v1.1 and onward, no genasi has cleric as a favoured class.
I would have liked to add Searing Light or Burning Hands as a spell-like ability for the Fire Genasi, but it's not really necessary and at present I have no idea how to do it properly. If anyone know how to make spell-like abilities from spells and add them as racial feats, I'd love the help.
Changes in this version includes an additional minor feat for every genasi, changes to the Fire genasi ability scores (From +2 Intelligence, +2 Constitution, -2 Charisma to +2 Intelligence, +2 Charisma, -2 Constitution), a change in Air genasi favoured class (from Cleric to Bard), as well as a rewriting of the genasi race descriptions to add more 'fluff'. Fire Genasi keeps Sorcerer as favoured class.
My thanks goes out to members of the Neverwinter Nights 2 (MotB) forums that helped me through the creative process in the thread that sparked this idea on my part. Most notable of these are JaegerBane, Countless, G_u_s, jdeneweth & Elphilm. It was they that convinced me regarding the sorcerer-issues in the last version, and jdeneweth pushed the pebble of my mind that was the Air genasi Bard. I hope you all enjoy this version better.
so only non-soz havers can use this huh. I guess that's why it isn't working for me. Such a shame really as the extra goodies now make genasi's worth playing (the earth one was always worth it as a melee tank) as a +1 ECL race.

I really do love this mod. It makes playing my Genasi characters, specifically Air and Water, much more fun. However, is there any chance of an update for SoZ? I know this has been asked before, but I'd really like to be able to use it again because it made all the Genasi wonderfully unique and fun to play.

Great work, can we expect a compatibility update for SoZ? It doesn't work with it, as it is.
The domain idea is interesting, but, the way it's setup now makes earth and water genasi into better stormlords than air genasi. Also, fire genasi get fire resistance twice, but, I'm not sure it stacks. _________________________ NTB's Hills and Valleys Vol. 00

typo: water description calls favored class druid, then fighter

Reeron's dialog.tlk file is in a separate ZIP that's required to get his mod working, otherwise none of the spells will have fixed descriptions and the changes to the classes that he's made for RDD, PM, HA, Warlock, etc will not have the right text on them. In particular the feats for bonus spell/day progression for RDD will have really strange descriptions on them. ;)

Giving it Strong Soul was intentional (as listed in race description), but I didn't notice that it prevented choosing a background feat. I'll look into giving Fire Genasi Blind Fight instead.
In the meantime, I didn't notice any .tlk in the spellfixes. As such, there shouldn't be any problem at all running Genasi Revamp 1.1 with them.
Also, I seem to have stumbled into a problem of my own. I was sure I checked it the first time, and it all checked out, and I don't know if it was some kind of glaring oversight on my part or the latest patch messed it up.. but domains aren't working. When I start a Genasi cleric, he isn't granted the spells his racial domain should grant him.
I've been unable to solve this issue at this time and as of now, I'm at a halt. =S _________________________ - Ceterum censeo Iudaeam esse delendam.

I love the idea behind this mod, and it seems to work great, but with one exception: the Fire Genasi can't choose a background feat (like blooded, strong soul, spellcasting prodigy, etc.), because one already appears to be chosen for them. The race_feat_fire_genasi.2da file codes for a sixth feat (one more than the other races) that is Strong Soul. After I got rid of that line I was able to choose a background feat again. I wasn't sure if that was intentional, so I thought I'd point it out.
Now if only someone could make a mod that would let you choose things like hair and eye color for the Fire Genasi, since they totally got ripped off in that respect. And why do all the female Fire Genasi have white hair? Gah...

Update: Played through to nearly the end of act 2 with an air genasi using this mod and spell improvements with no troubles so far. _________________________ "Save Early, Save Often"

Kunikos : I didn't notice a dialog.tlk file in the spell fixes files ... why would they conflict?

Going to boot up the game with bothr unning and see what happens I suppose o.O _________________________ "Save Early, Save Often"

I haven't tested it fully but the concept and the changes are in line with what I'd like. The only difference I could possibly suggest is rogue as preffered class for one of them though I'm not sure which would best fit such. _________________________ "Save Early, Save Often"
very cool! but heres a question for you, any way you can take the spikey hair style from the air genasai and give it to the fire? and some how apply the glowmap effect for the hair?

NWN2 really could have used a better system for the text strings; it's quite unfortunate that all have to use the same file, clobbering each other.
Hmm.. thanks for the idea, Kunikos. I'll look into making a .tlk that combines mine and the spell fixes. I knew there would be conflicts with other custom dialog.tlk's, but I'm not using any other than my own.
I'll look into it. Going to take a few days at least, though. I'm working a lot lately.
And thanks, Jimbo. ;) _________________________ - Ceterum censeo Iudaeam esse delendam.
Hey man... thanks for your efforts. I'm just starting out the game and really wanted to play with the cool-looking fire genasi. This should help those efforts out, eh?
BTW, feedback will probably be a while in coming, until we get into the game some. :)

This sounds pretty cool, but it will override the dialog.tlk file from Reeron/Trekari's Spell Fixes & Improvements so I'm going to pass.
Oh, come on. I had ~60 downloads on the first version, and have gotten almost 10 since my update earlier today. Surely someone must have a comment to share or a rating to throw?
I need critique from the unwashed masses if I'm ever going to improve! :p _________________________ - Ceterum censeo Iudaeam esse delendam.
