This is an area that I just finished making for my upcoming mod that takes place in Icewind Dale. It's basically a nice little forest, far removed from civilization at the current time. The giant tree may be familiar to those who've played the Black Isle series. ;)
I had just finished designing the area (no creatures or encounters) when I noticed the Obsidian contest forum post, so it was really easy for me to simply submit. I hope you all like it. If you have any feedback or questions, please post here and I'll check for it.
I would especially appreciate it if anyone could tell me if they experience any lag in the area. I myself have a mediocre computer, so I try to cut back on the grass if there's a lot of trees. If there's no problems, though, I may add a bit more to my other, earlier areas in my mod.

When I played your excellent adventure, Asphyxia, this are was the one that really made my jaw drop. It was so beautiful, and so interesting (with the hills and waters, making for great exploration of a not-that-large area). When I came to that place where you cross the river on a fallen log, I was right back in Baldur's Gate II mode again!
Areas such as this one shows to me why we need the NWN2 toolset. Congratulations, and please use your talent to make more mods for us!

Fantastic area. Great texture job, great height map, and nice job with the placeables/trees. _________________________ Ugly_Ducks Portfolio

Excellent area, congrats on the win. I'm using this forest in my first module. Really helped with development time. _________________________ NW2 Module Fallen House Celofraie

Please contact me via PM on the Bioware forums. I need to find where to ship the prize.
Congrats... I wish I could play it to see how it looks, but I don't have MOTB yet (which is sad, because I probably could have used some of its stuff in my entry - oh, well.) Looks good from the pictures, at least. :)
Congratulations. :) _________________________ Lolthanchwi (2009)

Overall this is a splendid area, well composed and I for one have no problem with the snow vs grass effect. Actually, snow and grass together behave far more varied in nature that many people seem to believe. So there is room for variety without pulling the "no natural"-card, I think, hehe. _________________________ From someone who is starting to feel like an Ent among saplings when playing computer-based D&D games...

This was a very nice run through. Ran very smooth, and esthetically nice to look at. The sparse flowers reminded me some warm weather creped up and confused the cycle.
Good luck on the contest!

Thanks for the vote. You are correct -- I used a walkmesh helper.

Nicely done. I enjoy the areas that are done without haks far more than the ones done with. Just my personal opinion. Especially liked "walkable fallen tree". How did you manage that, if you don't mind me asking? Walkmesh helper?

Set those trees to "position lock" in their properties. Also deselecting trees in the "selection" tab will probably be of great help when not placing trees.
I wont be commenting on or voting on the area because I probably will enter the competion if i get my area done in time. I will do so after it.
As for the snow textures: it was a conscious choice to lay them down at 100%. I tried doing it at a lesser pressure, but it just looks weird and sloppy over a grass texture. :(
And the trees are incredibly difficult to not have them floating. I was pulling my hair out with those because if you double click on a tree box twice (easy with the huge oaks) it raises it to its normal height, again. I actually fixed the oak tree that's floating in the first screenshot before releasing this prefab, though, lol. I'll double check for others.
Also, thanks for the advice about the sounds. I'll have to run through and see where they are too loud.
Thanks for the vote, I appreciate it. The mod I'm working on is my first effort, and my first areas that I made and these ones at the end are noticeably different. :D Any advice to perfect my areas is great. If anyone else would like to comment, don't be afraid.
As for the no lag, I'm glad about that. I may try putting in some extra grass and see how it looks.
Or better yet, make a high and a low grass version.

Excellent area. I must say this area has great potential. Very good use of textures, very well blended, well placed sounds and effects, good usage of the bloom property.
It's definitely a map that could be plunged in a module, or Persistent World. Some critiques: there are some floating trees (one of which you can see in the top screenshot), your waterfall is too small to be creating such a noise and perhaps make a gap between the stones out of which the left waterfall stream. Now it looks like the water is pouring out of the stone. Try to soften the snow texture, as it seems strange some patches are very snowy while the other patches around it are snow-less.
Besides this, I'd definitely recommend this area to anyone. Very good attempt, looking forward to more of your works.
Yours sincerely,
Over My Head
