NWN2 AREA PREFABS

Name  Just Add Encounters: Exterior Dungeons
Author  SGK73
Submitted / Updated  05-15-2008 / 06-24-2008
Category  Exterior : Other
Patch  1.12
NWN2Game  NWN2:MotB
Description
This is a dungeon area using the exterior area type.
The intent is to have a large area for hack and slash dungeon crawls.
I left the placeables mostly generic so the module builder could easily add specific placeables for the type of creatures that will inhabit the dungeon.

A note about the torches that are placed in the area. These are not really supposed to be perfectly placed or even sensibly placed just so you can get a feel for the area during a walkthrough to see if the area is usable in your module.
Also the area is somewhat desaturated to simulate lowlight conditions.

Have included a .mod file for easy viewing.

Known issues:
There are a few things to keep in mind when rebaking the area.
In the placeables list there area three directories named 90, 180 and 270.
The placeables inside these need to be aligned to the correct angle or the floors/stairs will not bake properly.
When adding new placeables it will be alot easier to cluster up a few placeables and edit the walkable polys then cutting with a placeable or a trigger. Adding lots of new cutting shapes will most likely break the baking routine.

Also baking time is quite long 1h+ or so.

Some Z-Buffer artifacts (red pixels) are visible both in the toolset and ingame because of the collision helper objects where those intersect with another object. This will probably vary depending on your graphics card and/or settings.

There are also alot of dynamic collision placeables and non environment objects so the area might be a bit heavy for PW use.

If the toolset crashes when trying to load the area try again and if it still crashes restart your computer. Had this happen a few times when building. This problem did not occur ingame.

Dependencies:
BCKII: Link
Collision Helpers: Link
Black Skydome: Link

I have included a placeables.2da in BCKIICH.hak that has the BCKII and Collision Helpers merged. If your module uses another placeables.2da you will need to merge this one too.
As the .hak references are not saved in the .erf check the .mod for load order.
Also extract the placeables.2da from the .hak and place in override when building.
Check the forum and/or tutorials on how to do this.

*Update: Added a 'clean' version of my going to be crypt style dungeon.

Ok I'm back, there has been football on tv every night for the past few weeks so NWN2 and area building has been on hold:)

shannonjoeker, will upload another version of the large map but I doubt it will help. Also you .hak problem seems to be that you do not have the BCKII haks and my black skydome installed just the top hak that I oput into the archive. Follow the links in the description.
As for the typing... don't worry I have the same problem :)

Cador, will upload another version.

I also get a file is corrupted message.

i tried it with 7z 457 and the newer 458.

the 4.8 file works fine.

i really like all of your maps! could you please upload the 23.5 mb version again?

RE: The 4.8 mb version:
The toolset won't open the Mod, but will import the .erf. It can't find the HAKS. It says it's missing these:

2\hak\bckii_2da.hak
2\hak\bckii_generic.hak
2\hak\bckii_classical_1.1.hak
2\hak\bckii_gothic_1.2hak
2\hak\sgk_skydome_black.hak

I put the HAK in the HAK folder, and tried removing everything (1 file) from my HAK folder, to no avail. Do you have version the 1.12 patch installed?

ARGHHH!!! 7 zip NOT &zip My program works! I swear! I just can't type!

Posted by shannonjoeker at 2008-06-05 14:03:15
Sorry....typo....7 zip file reads Data error in 'sgk_gae_dungeonextg01.mod'. File is broken....(not 7 zip...time to start proofreading...)

Posted by shannonjoeker at 2008-06-05 14:01:21
Hello! Same problem here as jaz.
Neither 7 zip, or Winrar will open it.
& zip error= "Data error in 'sgk_gae_dungeonextg01.mod'. File is broken"

Winrar error= "sgk_jae_dungeon_extg01.7z:Error-operation failed"

Both my Winrar and 7 zip have opened and zipped up countless files until this one. The 23.5 mb file is corrupt. The 4.8 mb file is fine.
You do nice work. It's a shame not to be able to open the file. :o(

Added an empty version of what is going to be a crypt.
Thought someone might have use for it as a generic template aswell.
Won't have time to build much in the next few weeks so don't know when I'll be releasing the finished version.

jaz, used 7z 4.57 to compress, also tried decompress it with winrar 3.51 both works fine. perhaps you are using an earlier version of 7z?

What else can I say, It's perfect.

@jaz: I had no problem with the 7z file.
