*** Area Prefab: Castle_Ext_002_24x24 *****
*******************************************
Date: February 1st, 2009 (02-01-2009)
This is my 2nd attempt at mapping a castles exterior. This particular castle has a somewhat evil theme, due to a few corpses and lighting in a few spots. If you do not want it to be evil, simply remove the corpses and either change the red lighting or remove it all together.
Use this however you see fit, but do give credit.
I've uploaded 2 copies of this area: one copy is a .erf file and the other is a .mod file.
To check out the .mod file, simply place the .mod file into your MyDocuments/NeverwinterNights/Modules folder, start the game and then select 'Castle_Ext_002_24x24' from the module list.
To check out the .erf file, simply start the toolset, import the Castle_Ext_002_24x24.erf file, place a start location, save it as whatever you want to call it. Then, start the game and select the new module from the module list.
Check it out, and please vote. Also, post any comments/concerns that you wish here.
Thanks.
*UPDATE*
I've uploaded a second .mod file containing a copy of this area with significantly less trees - only 5 to 6 different tree types. If you're having problems running the other version of this due to lag, try out the new 'LessTrees' version. Download whichever file you want. The original version with multiple tree types performed well on my machine & I don't have a great computer.
Less Trees:
This .mod file contains a copy of the area with a reduced tree count. If you're having performance problems with the other copy, try this version.
Check to see if you have 'Normal Mapped Terrain' checked in the options menu - if possible, turn it off. I think that it makes several textures in the toolset look very bad when, even when you blend textures. _________________________ Ugly_Ducks Portfolio

The new revision with the light trees are as close as any prefab area has come to plug-and-play. The only change I made was to remove the effects of shadows on the trees (for performance reasons) and just dropped the whole thing in. It won't be the most optimal area on the server but it looks spectacular and fits right in just about anywhere. I'd love to see more prefabs like these and will be checking out the rest of UD's areas.

Very well put together i like everything about this prefab nice job hope to see more from you
@ loudent:
I've uploaded a new version of the area with fewer tree types. There are about 5 or 6 different trees (counting the shrubbery). Any less and I felt that it would detract from the area's quality.
I'm also glad that you liked the prefab - thanks for your comments and suggestion! _________________________ Ugly_Ducks Portfolio

9 - Outstanding, A must have.
This is a nearly perfect prefab. Texturing and terrain - perfect, light on placables. A perfect place that was hoping to drop right in to our PW. (have just the place picked out). The one issue is the trees. General guidlines are for 5 unique trees and 5 unique seeds. There are a few too many trees (shrubs also count as trees). I'm trimming down the number of different trees so I can use it. This prefab really does deserve higher than a 9 and I'm more than happy to revise my vote upwards if you want to address the tree issue.

Absolutely perfect... despite being a large area, it looks busy enough, with some pretty nice vistas of the main feature from a distance, almost lost in the mist. The castle would be perfect in a Ravenloft mod... actually, it might also look right as a stage for a certain famous story by Bram Stoker.
Hopefully someone will make good use of this great prefab, but I would advise against placing too many critters in the area, it might ruin the overall loneliness that is essential to keep the atmosphere of the place.
