Name  Ghosttown and intact town
Author  Gonzo Gygax
Submitted / Updated  10-09-2009 / 10-17-2009
Category  Exterior : Town
Patch  1.23
NWN2Game  NWN2:SoZ
Description
"You have heard the terrible story told by bards the lands through, of a town completely ransacked when the miners dug too deep in the mines..."
Featuring:
- two versions of the same town, one intact, one destroyed (size 16x16);
- many levels of intricate walkmesh, please note the towers are reachable by using a ladder, you get quite a nice view from up there on a clear day;
- 5 water levels with falls, a cascading river running through town;
- a real watermill set just above one of the cascades;
- perspective backgrounds, making the area look larger than it actually is!
- environment objects, minimal placables and off-map trees set to no-fade for maximum efficiency on servers;
- only 5 textures used on the map and very scarse grass;
- only 5 tree-types used;
- special lighting and sounds on both maps, see also my sound setup tutorial Link;
- please note there may be a goblin or two walking around the destroyed town, and livestock in the intact town;
- No Hakpacks Required!
If you notice any bugs, please let me know.
Story hook ideas: if the characters fail at their quest, the humanoids take over the once-intact town, and the last scene can be played out on the ruined map;
alternately, the town is completely destroyed upon arrival and, having driven back the hordes in the mines, the town once again becomes a thriving community. Enjoy!
Many thanks to Crestlin, AllPlay, and Josh for inspiration.

This is the handy erf file including 12 simple scripts: please note the destroyed map has an area enter script that kills the decorative dead goblins.

I don't get it. If you made the burned out town a little combat based mini-module--with set groups of enemies instead of repeated spawns--this would already be an awesome 1st-2nd level adventure. The town looks great. I had a great time running, firing bolts and stopping to take a few heart-stopping swings. But the respawns made it impossible to finish. Made it a complete little adventure--finish the job.

A really nice area and well thought out. Many cave entrances for special encounters, well suited for a persistent world, since exterior areas are huge, and module size increases quickly. Very nice, thanks for sharing it with us.
