Well, not really. This was a technical exercise I thought I'd submit because there are very few desert areas online.
Anybody who likes western knows that a "box canyon" is a terrain that's a major plot feature in and of itself. You can go in and run around, but then you're trapped.
In this case, there IS another way out -- a goat-path that runs through a small saddle in the back of the canyon. Usable as an emergency bolt-hole to escape the ravening hordes, or as a really good location for a den of brigands or smugglers.
The terrain *can* do double-duty for a temperate region, but in that case, you'd likely want to smooth over some of the buttes and mesas a bit.
Size: 12x8
Walkmesh: Completely clean
Placeables: None
Texturing: Warm desert (like Utah)
Terrain: b/c of the goat path, there is VERY little "off-camera" horizon -- terrain modifications will have to be consistent across both the inner and outer mesh.
Put in a few things to liven it up a bit and compressed it for easier dl -- though w/o knowing what purpose it's being put to, I still haven't done anything except some basic plants, rocks, windy noises, etc. I'll start doing up some more general-purpose desert forms over the weekend or so.
I'm surprised... I thought ArtemisJ's "4" vote was appropriate. Since folks seem to like the work, I'll go back in and spruce it up a bit when I get a chance.

I know what you are going for, having spent my last vacation out in the deserts in New Mexico/Arizona/Utah. The form is fine, just like the others have already said it needs some detailing. Any more prefabs are always welcome. I see this is your first submission, keep up the good work. _________________________ Shadow Thief: Crimmor and Path of Evil blog Link

Yes, I agree with the statements here. Add a few rugged plants (of which there are several choices), dead trees, rocks, and what not and you've got a nice area going here.
Wow, that was fast... didn't expect this to post yet.
No argument on your observation at all, ArtemisJ -- this is FAR from a finished area (thus the warning that there are no placeables in it). It's up here strictly as a resource.

Needs a little work based on the screenshot, even in the most arid deserts you see stones and small vegetation, as it is now the whole area looks bland and really the small amount of texture doesn't spice it up. _________________________ For Your Area Creation Needs: Fairy Jar Toril Globe Extensive Placeble List
