After renaming and retexturing dozens of what was essentially the same model, I decided to make this tool for fast renaming and retexturing of models. It uses a simple graphical interface, and I tried to make it fairly intuitive.
The files I've used this for myself are the armor attahcment A_ MDB's, and the body part P_ MDB's. I'm confident that weapons and creature models will work fine as well, although I haven't tested them. Simper placeables should also work, but I can't guarantee placeables or complex/multipart placeables.
please post any comments or bug reports to this page.
v1.01
-When an mdb file's name was a different case than it's internal mesh name, the cloner would overlook the mesh. This has been fixed. It was a pretty show stopping bug, and a bad thing to overlook. Thanks to Cryic_The_Dark for so deftly pointing out this error!
v1.1
-The Cloner now supports heads. Thanks to Whatbrick and Morez for explaining the different setup for head MDBs!
-Can toggle alpha transparency
-COL2, COL3, and WALK meshes now are renamed correctly. This should allow the cloner to support placeables and tiles, although those types have not been extensively tested.
v1.11
-was skipping most head numbers. Should now work for all numbers.
v1.12
-no longer appends model's number onto the end of the fhair mesh
v1.13
-When copying an N_ head to a P_ head (or vise versa) eye meshes would retain the previous prefix, and thus not appear. Thanks again Whatbrick for catching this.
v1.14
-Wouldn't rename the race prefix of eye meshes if it were changed from one type to another. Thanks Kris C.
v1.15
-Another fix to eyes, wasn't working for creature heads or heads that didn't use one of the default 3 letter player or npc race prefixes
Supreme work! Um -- is there any reason that duplicating a placeable model should fail? I wanted paintings with different art (without overwriting the stock ones) . . . but what works for heads and armor didn't work for me for placeables. *snuggles* Eph

Just read about this tool on Barry The Hatchet's Shield Pack page... totally awesome! You just improved my NWN2 enjoyment at least 10-fold. Thanks heaps.

Myztikrice.. this is a couple months late to help.. but that pic that you've linked... the problem is that the head in the picture is rigged for voice... you have to set the cutscene detail flag on the main mesh or the mouth appears outside of the body in game. You'll probably need to edit one byte with a hex editor... the wiki for the mdb format will tell you what the value of that byte should be. I think its 0x10 or'd with the flag byte.

I was about to give up, and this tool saved me. THANK YOU !! I Rate this a 10... *insanely* valuable tool for anybody that doesn't have the time or means to edit meshes.

It's a very useful tool but I've a problem here ! Because of the restriction on the string length, I can't rename a w_lsword40 into a w_lsword200. I can't change a Rapr into a lsword neither. Any idea of how to proceed ? _________________________ Extended Voiceset pack Alternative Music Pack Aleph Icon pack

Second only to the Manual Patcher in terms of usefulness. Thank you for making this.

The cloner won't rename or duplicate any of the texture files. If all you were trying to do was renumber or rename the existing MDB without retexturing, it actually isn't necessary to duplicate the dds files, as it can still use the originals. You can just leave the texture fields unchanged when you clone the head. If however you were retexturing the mdb with your own skin, then you change the texture name in the appropriate field to the name of your own dds or tga.
