This program is a "lightweight" model viewer, with a "reskinning" feature. In other words, you can switch textures and see how the model would look with the new texture. You can zoom in and out while the model slowly rotates on the screen.
The viewer does not display animations, but currently it supports three games, NWN2, KotOR and KotOR2. Support for other games may be added later, depending on my available time and interest.
The story behind this program is simply that I wanted to learn a bit about DirectX, C# and Windows GUI programming, but needed something simple and small as my first project. A simple model viewer seemed appropriate.
I was not able to get this working under Vista (where I have nwn2 and its toolset installed) nor under Windows 7 (where I have visual studio installed), regardless of compatibility settings.
Visual studio tells me that it's failing with the exception: {"Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.DirectX.Direct3D, Version=1.0.2902.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.":"Microsoft.DirectX.Direct3D, Version=1.0.2902.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35"} System.Exception {System.IO.FileNotFoundException} but I do not know my way around directx well enough to know where I would find this specific version.
this is great. BTW, it should work in Win 7- just change its compatibility mode to XPSP3 and run as Administrator. Worked for me.

Very handy. I wish it offered more control over viewing options but other than that, it's a solid no-frills performer. I use it whenever I need to sort through large haks and find out which mbd files are associated with the various models. This makes a great companion for Runner Duck's MBD Cloner utility. _________________________ Co-founder of the PW (open beta) Sea of Dragons. Instantly stops working with a "Model Viewer.exe has stopped working" error. On vista 64 with .net 3.5 sp1 installed. Any way to figure out why it does that?

I love this tool, it is brilliant, and I used it quite regularly. But I have installed Win7 and it no longer works. Please do a win7 patch one day. :)

Good for quickly viewing a model file. I like that you have incorporated your ascii dump feature as I have used your command line utility quite a bit to check my exported mdl files.
It would be great to be able to manually rotate the model in the viewer. For example - to get top down views.
