This program is used to view, archive, backup and open Neverwinter Nights 1 and 2 bic (character) files. Features include:
- Works with NWN 1 and 2, can quickly switch between the two
- Ability to sort and rename files by date
- View info on selected characters
- Archive and Backup characters
- Rename and delete characters
- Can switch between 2 character folders (eg, the one in the main NWN2 folder and the one in your user Documents folder)
- Ability to select an external 'character editor' like the GFF Editor available. When done, you can double-click a character to open it with this program
- Can open external BIC files via a command-line parameter
- Can set itself to open BIC files by default (eg. in Explorer)
NOTE TO VISTA/WINDOWS 7 USERS:
You will need to 'Run as Administrator' for the program to read and write to your 'localvault' folder in 'Program Files' and associate BIC files. Failure to run in this mode will limit its functionality.
v2.00 (Fith Release)
------------------------------------
- Now opens NWN 1 BIC files too
- Stores folder locations for NWN 1 characters
- Can switch game modes in the click of a button
V1.06 Changes:
- Ability to load external BIC files from other locations (through the command line) added.
- Ability to associate BIC files with this program added under 'Options' (goes hand-in-hand with the feature above).
- Ability to move/copy external BIC files to the current BIC folder.
- Updated the Icon to include higher quality ones
- Splash screen removed
- Other minor changes.

E_H_Bonner - All of what you mentioned CAN be done with this program, but it all depends on the amount of time I am to commit to the program. As it stands it does everything I wanted it to do. Adding custom data to NWN and getting the program to read it would be fairly easy, skills would be do-able but a little time consuming and inventory could be tricky. At the moment I will not be making any changes as I am moving on from NWN (until NWN 3 comes out :-)). You never know though, I may get bored and decide to add the changes you requested.
There is another option I had considered - realeasing the source code so someone else can carry on where I left off. The program was done in VB6, so if anyone is interested in continuing with it (pref. someone who will not just steal the code and pass it off as there own) then let me know.
Is the NwN1 program definitely in the works? If so, would it be possible to develop the capability to view the skills, feats, and even the inventory of a PC? Be cool if so!
One other question - I play on a PW that has a lot of custom Leto-work, including subraces and stat modifications. Would there be any way for the program to take this into account? Or any way for the user to input specific data to be used by the program? I DLed and used the organizer, and on many of the PW PCs it tells me "Error loading character file: 0 -" and will not read the bic. I am guessing that it is tied to the subrace/statmod status of the PCs in question... Can there be a workaround for this, or am I just stink out of luck?

OK sure, working on a version now. Not sure when it will be ready. As for subraces - thats not an issue (it will display 'Unknown' if it is unsure) - however as I have not got the CEP I cannot build in the functionality for these additional subraces unless I know the 2da reference number for them - so is there any chance you could fill me in? For example - Dwarf=0, Elf=1 etc...

..oops..forgot to mention..the CEP does have some "subraces" (Wemic, brownie, etc) ...don't know if that will be a problem or not. _________________________ Imtherealthing

I say please create one just for NWN (option 2)and release it to the vault for the NWN1 community. Thanks..sorry if it will cause you lots of work....but this would be really cool. _________________________ Imtherealthing
Turns out the reason this prog displays error reading file for NWN 1 BICs is just down to the RACE. I am reading Subrace for NWN 2 files and as we all know, NWN 1 does not *really* have a sub-race system - just a way of entering your own string. I have already fixed this, meaning it will safely read NWN 1 files.
MY QUESTION TO EVERYONE IS THIS:
Do you want me to:
- Release the version on this page with the changes made so it can read NWN 1 files immediately (no other changes will be made)?
OR
- Do a new build of the program for NWN 1 ONLY (2 seperate progs for NWN 1 ad 2?
OR
- Integrate a *switch* in the program to go beween NWN 1 and 2?
Bear in mind the last 2 will take some time (don't know how long as free time is hard to come by for me :-))
Lunamaria - Yes of course it does. Give it a try - it backs up your characters first so you can always roll back if you have any problems. It simply re-orders the files when you have more than one character with the same name. Useful for when you have removed and added characters and the numbering system that NWN gives files is all messed up.

That would be cool if you could do this for the NWN1 community and post it to the vault. _________________________ Imtherealthing
jdeavila - Yes I suppose it could quite easily be adapted for use in NWN 1. I'll have to do a bit of research to see how NWN BIC files differ to NWN 2 ones. When I have some time i'll look into it.
