Don't Panic: read this guide and get to grips with the basics of the toolset.
The guide assumes no knowledge, and is written for anyone, whether they have experience with the Neverwinter Nights 1 Toolset or not.
The guide currently covers:
The general interface
Creating external and internal areas
Placing trees, buildings and doors
Camera controls
Day/Night lighting
Editing properties
Selecting music for an area
Tinting objects
Rotating objects
Laying down interior tiles
Creating transitions between areas
Installing plugins
The external terrain tools
Baking and walkmeshes
Chests and inventories
Creating custom characters
And more...
There are plenty of screenshots so you can easily follow the tutorial.
I hope this guide helps people to create the adventures they want to share. I encourage you to leave feedback for me so I can keep improving it.

THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH!!!!! The first time i used, scratch that, Tried to use the toolset i ended up with like forty apple trees in one square. I gave up and had to break the news to my dad that there would be no more brandybean productions in the house. Many, many, many thanks Gilthonym - this was the first tutorial I downloaded after seeing the score it got from others.
Fast forward a few months & I've just had my first adventure published on the vault - all thanks to the confidence & knowledge instilled by this guide.
If I could buy you a drink - I would!
Cheers, Clyordes. _________________________ "Cor- a Beholder, Just think of the XP!"; Dave the Barbarian in the Demonweb pits, long ago.

Outstanding. After playing this game for so long and wanting to get started using the toolset, this guide is a perfect introduction!

Hi there,
This is an excellent guide, however, it could probably stand a tweak now that the toolset is gradually improving, for instance some of the links are dead, there is now an undo facility, etc
the only prob i have is creating using tiles, i cannot change the default ground from grass to something else XP

To be honest, I've always been into modifying games, or making custom content, but I easily get discouraged when I don't know what I'm doing, and then never touch it again. I briefly looked over your tutorial here, and I must say that the content looks like the most in-depth content I have ever seen for any tutorial on anything involving this kind of work. Very impressive. I've viewed this site multiple times, but found that it was necessary to create an account now, because I felt compelled to comment on this. Hopefully this will take me straight home in this, and by looking at more advanced tutorials, I will be able to make rewarding content. Thanks again.

Fantastic guide, i had always approached the toolset with a distinct sense of dread, even though i was mostly only using it for creating npcs , creatures and items. But this guide has helped me immeasurably in migrating towards the creation of areas. Thank you for this outstanding piece of work.

Thanx for making this tutorial without it I would never have been able to make my first module (which is doing pretty good here on the vault). As a thank you I've put in a homage of the church and oak tree - hope you like it.

Fantastic beginner's guide to the toolset. I've been putting off playing with the toolset since I got NWN1 years ago, now I'm confident to play with the tools & see what I can create. Just a shame it only covers the basics (so far) - creating & filling out an outside area, adding a building & its interior, doors between the two & finally adding an NPC. Call me greedy, but now I'm away, I want more!!! _________________________ Finding creative uses for D&D spells since 1983

Very helpful start to the NWN2 toolset, good selection of topics, examples, and tasks. Worth noting that some of the menu configurations listed in the docs are out of date - apparently they were from the beta toolset - but the functionality is still there.

Really, really good tutorial. Really helped me get started wit this toolset (which is quite powerful, though inaccessible).
