This tutorial document (in rtf format, for those who hate MS-Word) and associated .MOD file walk a basic toolset user through their first cutscene, with animations, NPC movement, static cameras, etc.
It explains:
- Triggering cutscenes
- Setting up cutscenes that the Player isn't part of (NPC to NPC)
- Camera controls in Cutscenes
- Animations in Cutscenes
- Basic use of included OBS scripts
- Some snags that you can avoid, that are associated with Cutscene creation
There is *no* scripting in this tutorial, and no scripting knowledge is required. But you should have a basic familiarity with the Toolset, particularly with how to open the conversation editor, and add lines to a conversation.
Also recommended - download and install POWERBAR, as it is referenced in the tutorial (not required, but helpful).

This tutorial is superb, sir. Thank you for putting it together. If it were not for folks like you, people like me would take ages learning things the hard way, and so much would be out of our reach.
This came in very handy, and, using your mod and tutorial as an example, I was able to incorporate PC interactions at key points while still keeping the primary conversation focus between the two NPCs I built the cutscene around.
Bravo, sir. Excellent work.

Very clear and understandable, might have been formatted slightly better to avoid fewer blank spaces on the pages.

This is a great starting point for modders new to the toolset and dialog system.
Im curious if there is something like this ... for the dialog options presented with SoZ? You know, where the entire party can be used in dialogs. _________________________ the Red Hand of Doom campaign .. Click Here

Very helpful. This is just the right size for a taster without being overloaded with info. It would be good to see an advanced tutorial along similar lines in future.

Thank you very much for this great starting guide. I would love to see a guide for more advance scripted interactions (e.g. scripted battles with activation of specific skills, spells and attacks at specific times throughout the cutscene).

Nice tutorial jackyo123. Helped me out a great deal, I am not a master of the cutscene.
My biggest criticism is the RTF file itself. The images went off the screen. My suggestion would be to have the tutorial available as a PDF document. I think there could have been some more information regarding some of the finer points of cutscene creation. But you did exactly what you set out to do.

I had a brief look through the Tutorial, and I think it is definetly a must have for every beginner modder like myself, especially someone who had never done anything in Aurora/Electron before. The explanation is smooth, the source material is available, there is really nothing significant thatseems to be missing at a first glance. Well, just wait till I am actually working on the cutscene after having had built an area for it. Great job! _________________________ Joinable NPCs in IWD2. I'm *not* kidding!
BulapSack - thanks. I put this together very quickly, for one user in particular (Daronas) who was just starting out (his stuff is pretty sweet now, and he's helping me with NHiN 2). - I am glad others got use from it. _________________________ Jackyo [email protected]

I played and enjoyed Jackyo123 Night Howls mod, and started fiddling around with the toolset.
I was pretty-well-lost until this came along. Does precisely what Jackyo123 says it does - gives a solid understanding of what is involved in making a good cutscene. A lot of the other tutorials are very very long, and not focused on this one topic. I hope that we see more of this style - short, sweet, tons of screen-shots, and 'tips' on what *not* to do - plenty of tutorials tell you how to do something but doesn't warn you of possible pitfalls. This one does.

Thanks AudioSlave - I want to do an advanced tutorial as well, but time has been tight. I hope someone else comes up with one, though, as there is definitely a need for more advanced level tutorial stuff. _________________________ Jackyo [email protected]

Just in time for me! I am fiddling around with the toolset, and was a bit daunted at the enormous size of the other beginners tutorials. This one was digestible, and got me running quickly. The best part is that Jackyo123 explains things to avoid when doing your cutscenes, and takes the time to fully explain the important concepts.
She (he? sorry Jackyo!) also gives you information that other tutorials (at least the few i have glanced through) don't, such as tricks for triggering, problems with animations, and some others.
This is exactly what I needed, and this should be a must-have for anyone learning how to do cinematic cutscenes.
