After weeks and months of frustration I finally have custom music in the game. It's worth all the hassle.
This guide saves time by providing all the program links and step by step instructions so experienced or newcomers can add it to their module/campaign.
You can either download the .doc, .pdf version or go to the forum link for the original post and discussion.
v2.3 8/14 Added .pdf. Cleaned up text.
v2.4 8/17 Included screenshots. More text clean-up (thank God for editing).
v2.5 8/18 Included much more pictures, cleaned up text and hopefully mashed the last spelling/grammar error. Process is much clearer now.

Hey all. Thanks for the great comments and update by Ovocean and JasonNH.
I identified the source for the .2da corruption. It's great news it's fixed. Took long enough (grumble grumble). It's the main reason I stopped work on my mod.

- Your mp3 has not to be in 128kbs CBR, it can be of any compression quality and even variable bitrate, it will play in the Toolset and in game as well.
- The 2DA file can be opened and edited within the Toolset, no issue and you can see the result immediately.
- The .bmu files can ben put inside subfolders of the music folder, which helps maintain your data organized.

Thanks for the excellent summary. I was able to get my custom music working in very short order. The only alteration this could use now is an update to reflect the toolset's capability to edit 2da files without corrupting them as of the 1.21 patch.
Why do the .bmus need a constant 128kbps bitrate? In NWN1 I could use much higher bitrates without problems. _________________________ My NWN1 modules: The Banishment and Dark Halls of Myrandir

Congrats. As a lover of custom and original music, this is a great resource. This certainly beats hunting through the NWN2 forums to figure out how to get custom music in the game.
I have no idea why those files were lost. Reuploaded and starting the count over (sigh). _________________________ "Chance favors the prepared man" - Pasteur
SirNugz, the link to the BMU converter is not working in the PDF file. It was easy to find on the Vault, but I figured I'd let you know. Didn't check the .DOC. _________________________ Lands of Intrigue Castle Spulzeer || Dungeon Crawler DC1

This is a must have and it represents one of the few, concise well documented start to finish guides to editing music. I think it's very informative for other types of custom content as well.
I lived through the pain on this with SirNugz and I was thrilled to see him take the initiative to share the lessons learned in this guide.

The presentation could be better (pdf?) but the content is excellent.
Finally a tutorial for custom music! Worked perfectly for me. _________________________ Québec!

Hey SirNugz,
I just took a quick scan of the document. It looks like you've got everything in there. You might include information at the end about how to add the 2da to a HAK file, or perhaps reference a thread or another tutorial about HAK files. It's not directly related to music, but it is related to distributing a finished product.

Hey SirNugz,
Nice job getting this out on the vault. I will look it over shortly. I am aware of the pain both of us went through figuring out how to do this. I'm sure this will help many people.
