Enlarged the minimap and made it square to increase the visible area. (see screenshot)
Two minimap files are included. One of them is the larger minimap and can be toggled between small and large versions, but the small version cannot be dragged to the edge of the screen. The other file is only the small version, but can be dragged to the edge of the screen. Instructions are in readme.
Known Issues
- Map markers in the corners of the map will not appear. This is because the game still "thinks" the minimap is circular. Unfortunately this behavior is hardcoded and cannot be changed.
- This is the only mod I've written that I do not use myself (I prefer Smaller Big Map), so let me know of any other bugs.
UPDATE 12/03/06 - double-clicking on the title bar (ala unmodded minimap) will now toggle between normal and smaller sizes.
UPDATE 10/21/07 - added an extra smaller minimap file (instructions in readme)

Excellent work, nice improvement on the official GUI.

Thank goodness! (or whatever alignment you choose ;) ) This is exactly what I needed. With a 1920x1200 monitor, there is no reason why I should have to run around with the main map open + the minimap when the minimap could just be a lot bigger.

The big size is too big, and the small size isn't near the edge of screen. But - good thing, using it. Thank you!

This deserves a 12, but 10 is as high as I can vote :P
Great work. And THANK YOU SOOOOOO MUCH!
I was beginning to think I would have to beg someone to create this!

I use a resolution of 1200by1000, so I wonder if the minimap will be too big or small? Will it work well?
I'll find these out eventually cyric, and I'll vote soon.
Right now I'll look at your other transmissions... I mean submissions... _________________________ @===============================================@
Vinchenzo made a post here.
Plz check out my entries. I'm currently making a few simple modules, designing 3 special characters, and hope to someday be good this stuff.
This is Vinchenzo, finishing his post with the following advice:
Don't use Latin improperly (Lupis means grey, Rufus is red, Canid is dog, so on.) Furries annoy me with their improper usage of such. And I'm a furry!!! Ugh...
Don't vote for Beta things unless told they are finished, unless posted specifically by the author.
Don't abuse the vote and post function, don't vote for your own/friends stuff just to get a high vote. Don't flame vote either just to be an ass.
There is a voting system for how the points are used, even I forget, but we should follow it (and tattoo it to our forehead, lol)

Okay, I've actually had a chance to sit down and really play NWN2 now and I do have a request.
The smaller map seems to take up the same amount of screen real estate no matter which size is shown. So if I make it smaller, it's still overlapping the quickcast by a degree because I can't push it further up into the corner.
It's not a big deal at all really but one I figured I'd point out (in case it might be a bug).
"I get invalid/corrupt downloads :( Tried with both installed browsers in case it was a cache problem but same result. Either NWVault is being a pain at the moment or your most recent upload became corrupt :/"
D'oh I figured out the problem. Its extension is ZIP but the actual archive is RAR format. Uploading a zip version now, sorry.

Oh and before I forget, I can download it fine SunryzeR. If it's Firefox then close all tabs and then clear the cache, if there are tabs open it doesn't clear the cache for those tabs, as I recall.
It could also be that the zip format is too foreign to the program you're using to decompress it, if you're using an older archive manager and all. Try 7-zip(.com), as that's what opens it flawlessly for me.

Huzzah for resizability!
I really appreciate that. One thing I've noticed though, is that the UI directory actually seems to be the same as the override directory in that paths don't really have much meaning. For example, I put the relevant images in ui/default/img instead and it still worked just fine.
Just letting you know in case it saves a headache by making the install process easier for new users.

Neverwinter Nights 2: Uncensored Character Names UI Mod
Added option to doubleclick the title bar for a slightly smaller version (40 pixels narrower and shorter).
If you used the old version (squareminimap.zip), "minimap_top.tga" is now defunct and can be removed. It should be in "Documents\NWN2\ui\default\images\generic".
"Looks great. Works fine in MP. The default double click title bar behaviour is disabled (doesn't change the size of the map). At 1024x768 it overlaps with the quick cast panel. Installing all files to "My Documents\Neverwinter Nights 2\override" works fine and is probably easier than the suggested install."
MP functionality is good to hear :) I've had problems with putting UI mods in Override in the past, custom textures especially would sometimes fail to appear. If it works for you, great :)

Okay, first things first ...
If there could be a version that's slightly shorter (vertically speaking) for lower resolutions, I would appreciate it greatly at least.
That said, even as it stands right now, it's an incredible improvement over the existing minimap and I'll tell you why.
It's not just to do with it being square but I hadn't really noticed how much the 'overlay' that Obsidian had on there hindered my view of it.
There's an overlay on the normal minimap, it makes the upper-left look shiny and the lower-right darker, to give it a glass effect. This certainly looks pretty but in a UI, it's counter-intuitive.
I have poor sight so I'd actually stopped using their minimap because it was so hard to read. This is much better, it's as though all the elements that make it harder to see (pointless graphics, odd shapes and so on) have been removed.
Even as it stands now, if it were never made any smaller, I'd still use it as my primary minimap because it's the only one I've seen thus far that I actually can use.
And it looks nice, it sits well in a clean, minimalised UI.
I have to thank you for that.

I'm a bit worried about the size, it does look a little big. That's my only worry though and I'm reserving rating until I've tried it.
The rest of the idea is absolutely brilliant anyway and I thank you for this. I really do, as I suspect I'll be using this permanently.
Quite often, I ask myself "Which dullard came up with the idea of circular minimaps anyway?". Was it the World of Snorecraft devs, are they responsible for that abomination?
It'd be like having circular windows in just about any windowmanager. One can't 'edge' it against anything, it never seems to fit in anywhere and it'd be easier to see if it were square.
So yes, I do appreciate this effort. To be sure.
