Player's Handbook is an in-game manual add-on for Neverwinter Nights 2. It presents detailed information on all playable races, classes, skills and abilities, feats, and spells in an organized format.
The files below are updated version of gaoneng's originals. Archives for NWN2, MotB and SoZ are provided.
Note: In in order to install this mod you need to make changes to a UI ini file. Read the enclosed readme.html for details. Thanks.
Thanks for the vote. The way the PH works is that it uses explanations and text which are in the official Bioware dialogue files. Unfortunately, freedom, mighty etc. do not have entries so they can't be automatically added to the book. Adding them would be a lot of work (due to the structure of the mod) but if someone would like to, please do :)

Have you considered adding "item properties"? Sometimes a weapon will be described as "keen", or "mighty", or an item might grant "freedom". These kind of terms don't seem to be defined anywhere in the game, and aren't even very easy to look up outside of the game since they tend to be common words, and thus inclusion in the handbook would be very welcome.

It may be possible to get this to work with non-English tlks, but it's quite a lot of work and I'd need someone to send me the tlks. Is there sufficient interest to make this project worth doing? Please post here and tell me :)
Do you need both of them if you have MotB installed? Or do you only need the NWN2 one if you *don't* have MotB installed? I know, probably a dumb question, but I'd rather ask now than mess something up. :D

It should be compatible with other UI mods. Just make sure that if another UI has its own version of ingamegui(x1).ini then you add the player's handbook line to that file. _________________________ NWN2: Big Font/High Res GUI // Extra Spell Swapping // NWN1: Colourised Scrolls // Both: Reviews and more

Kind of curious if it's compatable with xUI, charlie's UI, or slim UI? those seem to be the most used so far if I recall. And if not will compatability uploads be being added to the downloads any time soon for those of us that arn't quit as code savey? :) thanks for this though :) _________________________ "We came, We saw, we kicked .... Please note that the v1.12 patch changes ingamegui(x1).ini. So if you have been using Player's Handbook from v1.11 or below, please copy the new version of ingamegui(x1).ini from your Neverwinter Nights 2 directory and then add the SCREEN_PLAYERSHANDBOOK=gn_phbscreen.xml line as normal. _________________________ NWN2: Big Font/High Res GUI // Extra Spell Swapping // NWN1: Colourised Scrolls // Both: Reviews and more
Lilia - I think this is the tab delimited issue again - see Dragoon001's comment below for an explanation.
Arvirago - unfortunately I don't have access to the source code for the compiler so I've been unable to make any changes to it - it's the same as the old version (doesn't work with non-English tlks).

Hi. If you're using MotB you need to change ingameguix1.ini . For NWN2 (no MotB) you need to change ingamegui.ini . Check the readmes in each archive for the correct instructions.
I have put all files into a hak, line in ingamegui.ini, added hak to module and hak directory.
For some reason nothing happens when I click on Players Handbook in the menu?
This happens if you use a 2da file that is not using tab delimited format. Obsidians orginal 2da's files are all tab delimited.
Here on NWNVault you can find a very popular Tlk-2da editor. Unfortunately is use space delimited format to separate entries. A exsample: Reeron spell fixes use this editor. You have to convert the files to make them work with the compiler. I simply use Excel Import foreign Data Converter to do this for me.
If you are looking for Reeron Compatible version of Player's Handbook. Stay tuned!
You should soon find a link or even a download here.

Note to everyone that wants to download: The below-mentioned issue related to runme.exe does not affect the mod iself!
Posted by HS_Tri at 2008-01-06 20:59:47 Voted 9.50 on 01/09/08
runme.exe crashes ("IOException: System.IndexOutOfRangeException: Der Index war außerhalb des Arraybereichs. bei NWN2_PHB_Compiler.Program.Main()", meaning "index outside of array boundaries") if spells.2da contains entries after index 2000.

Nice job!
I've installed it and it runs correctly.
I think a little more instructions on use, eg...click on small face to back up to previous screen, click on letter for feet and so on. But I do like it and offer my thanks to you guys.
ps....if you ever decide to update or add on to it could you put a little more of a description in the feats department.
I've always wanted something I could turn to to tell me what a magical beast, or monstrous humanoid was when choosing favored enemies.
Again thanks. _________________________ Help is good when asked for,
