A famous tavern apparently from the Prime, the World Serpent Inn is a curious planar pathway indeed, as it shifts location from Prime to Outer Planes, and even Inner Planes seemingly at will. Almost all the inhabitants of the Inn are travelers, either by design or by chance. Many have simply stopped here during journeys to other places, while others came to the Inn accidentally, then realized they could not get home.
Opening a door in the Serpent takes you into a dark labyrinth-like passage. Along its walls are many doors of all types; doors made completely of links of metal, doors frosted over with ice or covered in a layer of shadow, doors glowing with ever changing glyphs, and more. Those who look about keenly may notice that some doors appear or disappear or seem to change position along the walls in an endless, silent shuffle.
Nobody knows who built the place, nor why it seems unfettered by the rules of normal time and space, but shift it does, and many travelers are thankful for that.

OOC INFO:
The World Serpent Inn is requires custom haks to play or preview. WSI has over 300 highly detailed areas to explore, with more in the works. WSI features custom classes, spells, races, skills, quests, unique magic items, player housing, and an incredible community of mature role-players.
There are many different areas to explore, at varying levels of difficulty.
Dynamic changes are made to the module as time passes and as a result of in-game events. Players can literally change the face of the module through their actions in the game. DMs are true storytellers and work with the players to give them a chance in the spotlight.
WSI has no eating/fatigue systems. Resting is easy to do and can be done anywhere outside of battle, but does require a brief wait between rests.

There, thats better. Now that I won't be drowned out by shoe advertizements, I'd like to give kudos to the team in their efforts for creating a visual aesthetic. The greatest flaw here would be only less people get to enjoy the experience. I recommend anyone take a look if your willing to see some of the finer multiplayer building examples around.

Edit to explain the drama below...
A post was removed by the vault page admin. The poster harasses us because of allowing gay/lesbian players to login to our server. Based on that, it's considered hate mongering and does not help the community here in any way, and was removed. _________________________ Link

Having fun on this server, people are nice. DMs are working on a personal event just to add development to my pc. The world is pretty, theres a few bugs sometimes but nothing big.

I have been playing here casually, off and on for the last couple of months. Having done so, I feel it is finally time for me to make some comments on what I have seen. My views are tempered by my own experiences as a former NWN server host, who has had to deal with the complexities of the social environment that is the internet.
My initial impression when I checked this place out was positive. The players were friendly, the DMs were, while busy at the time with more established players, still willing to take the time to talk to me. Area layout was not just pretty, it was innovative. I felt I was learning more about the art side of creating a Neverwinter Nights environment just taking a stroll around the area. Granted, there are a few places where placeable floor tiles overlap and create a bit of that weird graphics shifting where my video card doesn't know which texture to show, but I know from experience how finicky those things can be! I used to spend hours just going over overlapping placeables and nudging them 0.01 up or down, and it can be too much work sometimes! I took advantage of the subrace system they have in place to create an approximation of my old Legend of the Five Rings character, and was soon afterward delighted to find that by random chance, the builders had included a small pocket of my character's home world in the upper halls of the inn! So right off, I saw the world as tasteful.
I dislike the Forgotten Realms. I am likely in the minority, in that I am bothered by what seemed a jarring discontinuity between what the world was intended by Ed Greenwood to be, and what it is now. That said, the staff here have taken a chunk of the world that I had not explored much in tabletop gaming, and made it work. They made a small chunk of the world seem big, and yet linked it all together so that travel times aren't annoying for a casual gamer like myself. So yeah, they've made the Forgotten Realms fun for someone who dislikes the Forgotten Realms. Kudos on that!
The recently added hak content really adds some fine elements. I understand it is still under development, so it shall improve soon. Improvements I suggest include more auxiliary parts such as the shoulders and other matching parts from samurai, doom knight, and celestial avenger armours, placing the torsos for things that look like heavy armour in the heavy armour selection, and posting a credit shout-out to the original sources. As it stands, a PC can look quite awesome with what is there already!
My one beef is that time passes way too fast! This might have been done for the sake of realistic travel times, or to shorten spell durations. Most players tell me to just ignore the cycles of day and night that zoom by. It breaks immersion for me only a little, and is the reason I don't say 10.
Over all, I would say that this is a better server than my former one. Considering the pride I took in the work I used to do on A Tale of Bone and Steel (removed from the vault at my request), that says a lot. Even when I get my version 2 running, I will likely want to come and relax on the World Serpent Inn and enjoy the easy company I find there.
Just posting something nice to get rid of the random crud posted by our stalker friend with many login names.

Eh. Even if the 'blue' guy was clearly someone with a grudge, he's summed up why I gave up on this world.
I was pretty disgusted in how players were so willing to trash on any other server for being 'competition' to them.
Posted by L8rG8r at 2011-01-31 16:38:47 Voted 1.00 on 01/31/11
i have to agree with blue guy. i started as a new character, no one helped me, or orleplayed with me, and I felt like i was really looked down on. no one reacted to odd subraces oddly, and in a DM quest my character was ignored and pushed around for highre leveled chars that had been hlere olonger. no wonder there's so little players...
Hey, I'm a new player here, I joined to participate in Overminds Plot, off of NWN connections....I can't understand what that guy's problem is. I don't think I ever see dms on pcs, and when they are their usually doing something else. I see some 'restrictions', but their allready allowing more then most. I think someone got a pantytwist. Anyways, the server is very well designed and the staff in my experience are friendly and helpful. Leveling is fun, and new dungeons are great to explore. Not noticed any problems other then there's just not that many neverwinter players left!

Absolutely excellent server. The DMs and Players are both incredibly friendly and helpful. The building is absolute breathtaking and the openness they allow players to take with their characters is unparalleled.
They have weekly campaigns players may get involved in (I have not as of yet) and other events, even ones a DM sets up before they have to log off that everyone may take part in, even if your time zone doesn't match up! Brilliant!
The server population isn't as bad as most seem to think. I've generally seen 2 to 5 at the worst times and 20+ during peak hours. A quick tell will almost always find you someone friendly to adventure or rp with. A few of the new DMs even cover European time zones which is great!
The races and balancing is very well done. There are probably around 30 races and subraces (everything from genasi to kender) to enjoy, not counting the ones that you can get with an application. The summons are a bit uber honestly, but they allow mages to solo which is quite nice if you prefer. Every class almost has some neat extra thing that you won't see in other places.
I highly recommend WSI to everyone to at least try, even if it's not your thing then really no harm done. :)

Want to step in and oppose the idea that playing a normal human is looked down on on WSI. Firstly, you can play whatever you want to play, so long as its not one of the listed races they/we forbid; Undead, animal-people, constructs, aberrations etc. You'll get treated just like everyone else. The only thing I dislike about this is the lack of racism in the game towards some of the races; Tieflings, drow, half-dragony peoples.
You don't need to be a friend to get applications accepted. I get some of my sillier, lore-lacking or overpowered requests denied, however I also know that they/we make sure to let people know how, and why applications for anything are rejected and more often then not they/we even provide a way to have it accepted, or suggest a compromise.
The player numbers often go through periods of high-ups and low-downs, which can be annoying, or frustrating at times. Though I'm proud to say that they/we have a pretty steady following of people who enjoy it. I mentioned in a post long past that I had been to a lot of the PW servers NW1 and NW2 has to offer and I stayed for about 2 weeks of play time just to really see what its like.
Like myself, the mention of Amia in poor tastes dose occur. However, I spent a good chunk of 5 years on Amia, and watched it change into what it is currently, so I have every right to say that I now dislike what the server has become. I'm sure someone out there would disagree, but Amia is not cannon FR. So when people go there, and learn about the game/world, and come to the WSI, which tries to stick to cannon, we see a lot of ignorant people. As an example The Druids of Amia. Cannon has it that a grove has a ranking system of 3 High Druids, who have 3 Druids under each of them, who have 3 Initiates under each of them. In Amia there is a Arch Druid ( Who is the big head hancho in cannon) who oversees all the druid pcs and npcs. While this is perfectly fine on Amia, its not quite how it works in FR setting.
This became longer then I expected.

Great server with interesting plots and welcoming players and dms. I was new to NWN and found many people here willing to help me.

Whoa! As a player on WSI I wanted to say a few things here... this blue waif guy is nuts. He had a problem with one of the dms being gay and posted all these mean things about gay people and a few normal players he just didn't like for who knows why, no one else disliked those people. I guess he's mad that he got banned.
I just wanted to say that the dms are not mean and terrible! I broke a rule without knowing and they didn't punish me, just gave a warning. This guy is so crazy!
The administration of WSI is simply AMAZED that waifblue continues to make blogs and posts about a server he has been banned from for over a year now. We don't understand why a place he hasn't logged into for so long still garners so much of his time and effort. Seriously, it's freaky. _________________________ Link

Whatever you are looking for, is likely to be found here... The downside to that, is it is a lot to take in for anyone who is not heavily into D&D.
Can be confusing at first, but if you send a couple messages to people, someone will come help.
Could use better description write-ups; as race names, don't mean much to a few of us.

Another thank you goes to Lanni. Another long session or RP that resulted with me in tears, and getting my character back the way she should be. Giving her reasons, motives, and a drive. I've never seen a DM put so much heart, thought, and care into individual players characters. Thank you. _________________________ Link

After reading the other post here I'm surprised because I never saw that. Someone just has a grudge against Jen, lol.
WSI has great visuals and a nice community of players and dms. Newbies aren't ignored and players of any level can help change the world. There's a few cliques like any server. Some are all players, some are dm pcs and players together... but they don't shun new people, they just have preexisting relationships.
Since some troublemakers left there's been no drama and the focus is on rp again. I like the way the dms don't ignore it when rumors happen, they tells us what REALLY went on and everyone moves on. There's always two sides to a story, so it's good to hear theirs too.
The only downside to WSI is it needs more players! I see 5-10 on most days but I want to see more new people. The dungeons are fun and feel like pnp, the world itself is beautiful, and the dm plots have depth to them.

Having played on and off for about 2 years, WSI was a casual sidegame to my busy schedule. However I continually began to run into problems with this server and the way the DM team handles the players.
Bans are posted publicly on their website, a disgusting wall of fame to entice a strong 'us Vs them' feel the server has hanging around it. You are either part of Jen's pet clique, or you are part of 'them.' Given that I really only had interest in 1-2 times a week logging on, there was no way to involve myself in said clique.
I saw players, good and bad, move through and leave in disgust of the same thing.
The loyalty of Jen and her pets is possibly the most displayed in a dramatic mess that happened some months back.
There was another DM and builder whom Jen had known for some time, and had knowingly allowed him to bring stolen content from her previous server, Amia, onto WSI. Eventually this DM along with a few of his (her?) friends decided to do the same thing they had done to Amia to WSI- take a copy of the Mod and leave. Really jerk-ish move on their part, but instead of handling it professionally Jen decided to post a huge public rant about them for all players to see and get involved in. She then proceeded to change all the profiles of players who went to this new copy-server to list their occupations as things like 'whores' or other degrading jobs.
This server, while possibly one of the best built out there, is full of drama, and an angry vengeful server host. There is no effort to air dirty laundry tastefully- anything that irks the DM staff comes out full in the open and involves everyone.
Thought we'd post this one, 'cause it's really sweet.

Normally... I'll play on a server like mad for a few weeks. I'll meet one or two people that are cool. I'll get squashed by a few Power gamer jerks who think it's "Roll" play... not Roleplay. I'll burn out on NWN, delete it off my machine only to reload it a year later and try again.
This server has changed my mind. Everyone here is a great Roleplayer... I'm amazed. Thanks for restoring my faith in NWN. _________________________ Link

I've been here a little while now, and I have to say, I truly love WSI. When I first came here, it was simple to get started, and easy to get along with the DMs, and players alike. It didn't take me long to get into an event, or make a lot of good friends. And when I had questions, they were always replied to in a friendly manner.
The scenery, just walking down a road, is quite detailed, taking a bit of time for the little things that make it beautiful. I'll sometimes even take walks jsut for that fact.
Leveling is quick, and you don't need to RP for five days just to get one hundred experience points, and there's quests and whatnot you can do to get experience, too.
Posted by flushingrain at 2010-01-14 00:44:51 Voted 1.00 on 01/14/10
World serpent inn isn't all that.
It is very much let down by its DM team.
DMs are far too cliquish. Particularly DM Jen who seems to love sending server wide shout outs to vote here. Well here is my vote. She never answers messages or does anything else, but is always logged on. Sometimes she does stuff for her clique.
There are a lot of DMs but only one or two who regularly do stuff for the players. Others just bitch on the forums. There used to be more but some left (probably because they were bitched at on the forums by the others).
Don't believe the stuff about joinable guilds either, the DMs will tell you to talk to DM Jen about it and she just ignores your messages.
The team doesn't discus bans on a community platform such as this. We will discuss it via email. Anyone that questions the decision is free to ask us privately for our reasoning.
That said... we've banned three people in the last 2 years. We're not horrible goblins. _________________________ Link
