If the players you are 'playing' with are not having fun, play with someone else. Blatantly annoying the hell out of other players is the only way to get banned.
Most of the emphasis in developing the World Of Torr was placed not in the content but in the features that make a persistent world playable for a long time. The game world was not designed to be full of static D&D quests that just happens to be played with 100 other people on it. World of Torr was created more like a fantasy 'playground' for the players to have fun with the different activities while they are here. We've put in many different kinds of systems that allow for many different kinds of game play, essentially setting up various 'Jungle Gyms' and 'Sandboxes' (not to mention a few dark alleys) of a fantasy RPG world. The players can have fun with the 'equipment' in whatever way they choose whether that be role-play, power gaming, Tradeskilling, exploring and adventuring with friends or stealing from and killing people.

After years of playing on many different types of servers I have to say that World of Torr is the greatest server I have ever played on. I cannot tell you how many years I have played on Torr but it has never gotten dull or boring for 1 second and with DrDread talking about new updates for the server it can only continue to get better.

I have been playing a couple of weeks now and must say that this the best server I ever played on.
Genius scripting, (Uber)friendly people and great layout.
Scripted law system and enough to do.
I can reccommend this server to anyone who seeks a little freedom.

We take donations and display the amount we've received, we even ask you to make a "wish" or suggestion for in game content they would like to see (not something for your character) when you donate. We will often give priority to work on a certain area or feature that we've mentioned was already in the development if the donators are asking for it. But we have also made it clear that we don't trade money for favors and no donation will guarantee anything!
We have players that have donated 100's of dollars who do not get any character based favors. We're also not "broke DMs" who need the money. The games integrity means more than anything.
NOTE: If you are willing to donate several thousand dollars, my email is [email protected] and you can disreagard everything I've said in this post =)

Concerned: Donations are only illegal in the EULA if they are accepting payment to actually play, or to buy perks within that game.
Torr last check only takes donations for purposes or server upkeep and maintenance. As do a great many large scale PW's - do you have any idea how much it costs to pay for the bandwidth and server maintenance?
Little tip. It's far from free.

I've just discovered this server takes donations in violation of Bioware's EULA. They have the gall to brag about it.

By far at the top of its game. Where else can you choose between going exile to fight goodlings, or be a good guy to fight the forces of darkness? Where else can you buy your own home in any city you want? Where else can you also make your own armor, weapons, and items? Where else can you also lead an army into combat?
This server is like an addiction. Stick around and play for a while, and it becomes your home. That's just what Torr players need... another fix from DrDread.

World of Torr is my first actual server, or the one that I've been playing more then a week. My friend told me about it, and converted me. I found it nice, though I did a melee characters that weren't so good for beginners. You can play a melee character in the beginning but it's more easier to have a magic user. So I ended up remakeing, doing character over, you lose 50% of your exp and you can only have 1 character. Only played about a month with the melee character, well I did another melee character, a month with that again remake. Now I've been druid for 4-5 months.
We have uber powerfull amerikan gm dr.Dread, he doesn't really sympathize us, so if you screw up don't expect to have any feedback. You can get used to it, and of course GM is always right.
Playin in torr is weird, first word that comes up to my mind. You get hungry and fatiqued over time, so you need to eat and sleep in a bed, so every 1h you need to eat something and probably sleep. The server lags alot if you are in the capital city or some other high npc map, but that's probably because I live in Europe and the server is in amerika (I think). You get hasted if you walk/run in the roads, crafting stuff is working well, the amount of crafts is good, we have normal stuff to high elemental powered, of course how good the weapon is dependes on the quality you did it. Then we have the law system that prevents stealing, killing or other evil stuff in the cities, if you are a so called freelancer. If you do those stealing, killin or the evil stuff you'll end up exiled and become enemy of the state. Exiles have their own town Doomsha, and there is neutral town, Kalmoor, where they can visit.
The world and amount of content is o.k it's not big, it's not small, we don't have all the monsters etc... Dread is constantly upgradeing the server, mostly every monday we get something new, nothing big, usually bug fixes (some weird ones that I haven't bumped into).
I don't want to type anymore because I have feeling of this becoming boring (and neverending, I could write few pages of this server but I don't think you like that)...
plusses:
Constantly upgradeing
The Dm dr.Dread
law system, freelanders and exiles
variety of skills
highly nerfed spells (balance reasons)
Deities/gods that you can worship
Uber hard dungeons
The community
the exp, 1000M to 40th lvl, 10M to 20thlvl
minuses:
melee classes are in weak position
highly nerfed spells (balance reasons)
The Dm dr.Dread
the exp, 1000M to 40th lvl, 10M to 20th lvl
The lack of players (you can fix that, come on to play the World of Torr!)

I started World of Torr with my friend, after concidering another world. He told me to choose between which of the worlds we would play in, and I made the right decision. Torr is a very unique server, the freedom is amazing. Power game, become rich with a vast system of economy, roleplay, kill other players and exiles, or just hang out with friends. I have played both sides, "free-landers" and "exiles", and I must say, both offer very fun and exciting challenges. One of, if not, the best servers in NWN. 5 stars, 10/10, Two Thumbs Up! Doctor Dread is the best scripter out there, can't believe it? See for yourself. The community is friendly and welcoming, and what i like most about this server is the fact you could do something in the server, and become known for it. You can become famous amongst everyone in the server, and i like the fact you can get to know everyone you play with, and not just a few people who log on every few weeks. The Best There Is!!

I have played World of Torr for about 8 months now and despite a few areas lacking features is a place that will have you keep coming back. WoT has a fantastic community both in game and on the website. This mod is constantly playable as it is updated frequently. Players are heard and responded to, Game balance issues are fixed quickly and efficently. PVP in my experience is only really there if you want it. The crafting system is superbly scripted allowing for a range of different playing styles.
Highly recommended to all!

Blah, I have to reply in order to give my rating. Here you go.
The only thing that I can think of that Dread can improve is quests that aren't scripted. One thing that I've noticed is that there is hardly any DM interaction with the world. If you want creative, unscripted quests, you may find Torr not to be in your liking.
But if you like a sandbox (Able to do whatever you want) server with an awesome community and a huge world, you're welcome :).

I have to say "World of Torr" is by far one of the most intriguing, intuitive, and original servers I have seen since the release of Neverwinter Nights. I've played on this server ever since it was released, and have been part of many of the bigger RP communities in Neverwinter Nights.
I have played on the majority of big NWN servers (Including Siflige, Kingdoms, Empire of Eternity, Raahti, etc.), but find that World of Torr bests them all in that it allows you much more freedom, and offers much more of a MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game) aspect.
And let's not forget the person who started it all, Dr. Dread. Doc's probably one of the best I've seen on NWN in that Dread always asks us of our opinions, and always is there to help us with problems we have...
In 6 words, "World of Torr is my favorite."
Posted by thyagomoraes ( 201.24.xxx.xxx ) at 2005-11-27 03:48:40
Torr, for me, is by far the most complex and entertainment world of NWN. The crafting system, the forum homepage and all the players are unique.
Posted by Mate'r at 2005-11-27 03:03:28 Voted 10.00 on 11/27/05
I must confess that I have played few other worlds. I came to Torr a NWN noob never having played the game or expansions. What I found was a new experience that has become additive and, well, fun. The people on World of Torr are so helpful and open with few exceptions. There are people who role-play like Oscar winning actors, others who just hang, kill and have fun and everything in between. Sandbox I believe is the term.
The merchant, law, prestige and crafting systems are second to none. Expect to be surprised you have never seen a world like this one.
I too wish it were a downloadable mod!
Cheers to Dread!

A point of view from someone new to the game. I'd hardly touched NWN before I got on this server. Both "good" and "evil" type players are very friendly to people new to this game and NWN role play, ect. No snobs here. If you go out looking for trouble, get ready to die, but there are safe areas too. Low experience loss on dying, the pain is the loss of items, but the crafting system is so interesting it's not so bad making your gear. My interest in NWN jumped 100% when I got into Torr.

If ye prefer an easy life of a commoner, ye can be anything from a miner, weaponcrafter or armorcrafter, to a jeweler, army captain or ritual master. If ye prefer to stand against the forces of the exiles, then a mighty soldier you may one day be, chronicled in the tomes of legends. Or if ye prefer to wage war against the powers of good, then seek within the lands of the exiles to lead against good.
Tired of simple adventure and the same ol' caverns? Then look ye no further, Torr be a place teh find yerself a home, choose for yerself a trade, and live. Or fight in grand adventures against the forces of good or the forces of evil. Perhaps ye shall find honor and glory, or gold and power. Whatever ye wish, this be the place fer ye.

An excellent server that rewards extended playing time, i think i have been on everyday for the past 8 months it takes something really good to keep my attention for that long.
The community here is excellent and most of the big names in game have posted here which is nice to see ( hi Guys), other than the odd lack of content in some areas please do come and take a look

I've been playing on this server for almost a year, and it's definitely the best server I've ever been to. The trade-, crime-, exile- and secondary skill-systems are magnificent.
At the moment I joined this server, people helped me to get started, I got friends (and some enemies ;)) The exile side of the World of Torr is the most interesting IMO. As a freelander I saw many exiles raid towns, slaughter townsfolk and do evil deeds. I also saw brave people, gathering the last defenders of the good kingdoms to fight these exiles down. THAT is some good teamwork !
Torr also has an interesting history, all the hundreds of events that've happened (and happen all the time !) Everything you do does affect the world around you, and you might be watched even if you didn't know it. There are spies, murderers, bountyhunters and demons.. The players have formed their own guilds and the kingdoms themselves have real people in the lead.
Torr is not a hardcore server, there is no perma-death, but you do lose something when you die (And if you want hardcore, you can be evil and go exile; something very challenging but fun)
There are some downsides of course, like areas lacking monsters/subareas and content. There are also some bugs, though most have been fixed long ago.
The balance of classes is better than it is in many other servers I've been to, although I don't like the 'überloot' you get from extremely hard encounters. :)
All in all I have to say the world of Torr is a brilliant server.

this would have to be the best scripted server i have ever played on. And due to that, and the time it takes to reach high levels, it has formmed a real community of players.

This world has amazing codes, such as roads that speed up your walking pace, laws that are enforced without a DM, etc. However, the world suffers without more than one DM. A roleplaying world needs someone to bring the NPCs to life and launch quests.
Posted by MacWalka at 2005-11-26 05:08:51 Voted 9.75 on 11/26/05
This is amazing server. I first found out about it around a year ago on this site. A year on i'm still playing. There's not much else I can say about it that others haven't I'd just say try it. You can do practically whatever you want with it whether crafting roleplaying, powergaming or even some PvP. The only criticism I can think of is the lack of quests but as this server is updated weekly theres always something new to try.

A great server! Doc is a great DM who tries to make an apperence at least once a day, and when he is on he gets invloved in gameplay and player relations. One problem some might see in Torr, is that alot is unfinished; however when you look at what is finished in the game, then you can see alot of content and experiences that are possible. Personally, I like the fact that somethings arnt finished, becasue then I can see the progress of the game, and I can experience new content the day it is added. World of Torr doesnt have too many quests in the game, but there are more than enough areas to make your own quests. I would say the best way to experience Torr, is to get into character. Roleplay and have fun with fellow players, you can start your own quest based on your experiences with player characters (Both freelanders and Exciles alike).
The only problem that I have with the World of Torr is that it is soo hard to gain levels. You can gain a fairly decent amount of XP by taking areas, defeating mobs, and doing in-game quests. But even if you gain alot of xp each day, once you hit the double digits, the amount of xp required to level up jumps dramatically from the normal XP amount. This has its good and bad points. Its bad of course by the difficulty it is too gain levels. It can be seen as good though if you think about the fact that it helps hold players to be into Roleplay more so. The high need for XP makes some characters want to group more often and take out a powerful enemy that they could not do on their own, such as the different Dragons in different areas.
If Torr wasnt soo hard to level, then I would have given World of Torr a 10. My biggest anticipation is for NeverWinterNigths2, not for the game itself, but rather for World of Torr to be crossed over to 2, and see Doc's new developments on Torr in NWN2.

Even I as the creator don't give my own world a 10.0, and I feel cheap if I shamelessly promote it here so instead I would like to comment and how I honestly feel about my world thus far.
I don't think I've spent enough time working on quests. While there is a very good quest system implemented which can easily allow for quests that branch of into 10 directions, I have still yet to make more then a couple of them which were made to test the quest system.
I have been spending most of my time working on the scripted features and putting in "generic" hack n'slash content around all the 8 major kingdoms first. With that in place, making wuests against them will be easier. While most of those areas and dungeons are fun and often scripted I still have a lot of unfinished and half-baked parts in the world.
I enjoy making features more then the hard-coded adventures. With the right features in place, the players can make their own adventures and they often do.
I also have a limitation of time! As I am just one person with a full time job. Perhaps this world is all just a beta for what will be the real version in Neverwinter Nights 2. With most of the exisitng system I have in place being easily imported to NWN2 I will have most of the behind the scenes work already finsihed and can concentrate on making numerous quests and scripted adventures!
