This new version has everything you need to use the beholder in your module: Model, textures, portraits, scripts, .2da changes and a creature in an erf so that you only need to include the files and place the creature... plz read the readme and post comments or bugs here or on the link given above... Use: Run the custom content self-installer. To include the hak into a module, open the desired module with the toolset, click the 'Edit' menu and select 'Module Properties'. On the new window appearing (wich is called 'Module Properties'), click the 'Custom Content' tab, and add the 'beholderinabox' and 'beholderinabox2da' to your module. Now, when it has verified the HAK, open the 'File' menu and select Import, and open the BeholdInABox.erf. It should be in the 'erf' folder of NWN... The beholder should now appear under the custom creature list in the 'Paint Creatures' window ... you can find it in 'Monsters' -> 'Miscellaneous' ... place the creature, and save the module when done...
New in version 2.2: Updated for NWN 1.30. New in version 2.1: Slighty altered model. I've split the hak into 2 for eaysier combining with other haks. And also, i've removed the 'Beholder uses it's central eye ray...' floating text. And updated for 1.28. New in version 2.0: A whole new skin. Smaller size, more details... Now that's just wonderfull :) Highly improved AI. Special thanks to Darkwind for testing. This update should have been made long ago, perhaps even before the first release. But Alas, i've been so tired.
Awesome! I hate to contact you like this, but I'm new at making games. Could you tell me how to put a screenshot in like that? _________________________ I try to make modules, never finish 'em. Working on one now.

I'm currently fine tuning the AI and the results are very good. I will probably realease a beta version of the HotU version before final release so i can get some feedback. If you are interested in testing and have some experience with the toolset, please send an email... and happy new year :) _________________________ Lead scripter, artist and designer -~ Ravenloft - Prisoners of the Mist ~- Souls' prison, roleplayers' haven... www.NwNRavenloft.com

Glad to hear it Zarathustra!
I for one was quite disappointed in the 'fear factor' when seeing the HotU beholders... I'm not sure what it was specifically but I recall my first battle with one of yours.. even my level 20 character (Granted he was nekkid as a babe), got caught with his pants down and was put out of his missery by only 3 of these guys..
The HoTU ones didn't seem tuff in the least.
Not to mention, I just LOVE the death animation of your model with the giant eyeball just plopping out of the socket :) Truely sick!
Can't wait to see your updated version..

Zarathustra217 your beholders were much scarier than Bioware's hehe. Think you can add the anti-magic effect from HotU as a cone/gaze attack? Something that the beholder does as an initial attack to gimp the character, lasts for 20 rounds or something. The central eye was meant to be dispel right?

I tried out the hak and its great I like it. I noticed the center eye does silence. I was curious if you could use something like EffectSpellfailure in conjunction with say cone or ray effect and perhaps set it as a duration of few sec or till the beholder uses another eye.

I would like an updated version for the CEP if you get it done in the next few weeks.

*sigh*
I'm starting to feel a little bit ashamed of my lazyness ... I'm working on version 3.0 which is for SoU. I've optimized the skin, animations and the model, updated the 2da files and optimized the script as well as taken advantage of some of the SoU features, like better petrification... It's been close to release for a long time now, but blame Anphillia for the delay... i've been using far too much time there lately ;)
Well, what i need to do is to add a few animations, optimize some of them too, and then compile the lot and send it out... I'm considering to post it as a new entry at the vault, as it requires SoU, but i'm not sure i wanna cause more confusion in my own and others' sore brains...
Give me ya thoughts on that... :)
Anyway, i really like a lot of things that will come in this update. The animation are getting a bit better and some parts of the optimized skin even scares me >:] So... beware...

I've been trying to add your beholder to a monster combo hak for my module. I've tried the Beholder-in-a-box hak and that works fine. However, when I extract the hak and transfer the files over, the beholder doesn't transfer completely. It took a while to figure out, and I thought I'd write this down here just in case anyone else has the same problem.
At first, I could see the beholder in the toolset but not in-game. Well, it turned out I had changed the VFX and RANGE 2DA files to avoid Bioware reserved spots and that was the problem. Changing the number in the range column of APPEARANCE.2DA to reference the correct line in RANGE.2DA solved that issue.
However, now I got melee beholders. Apparently the ray attacks were not transferred because the VFX reference was changed from line 37 to line 51. To get badass original beholders what you have to do is go into the OnHeartbeat and Onspawn scripts and change the number '37' to whatever the new number is.
If you want gas spores (anyone played EOB2?), then its just a simple matter of not using the correct VFX, changing the HP value to 1, and making a fireball OnDeath script.

Hey Zara,
I improved the model and skin somewhat for your Beholder in a Box. Let me know if you would like to see the changes.
My version has more of a brow ridge, it gives the eyes a new iris, and the skin takes on a more sickly brown-greyish-green hue.

Hi everyone :)
Thank you all for the very positive comments... Today, i finally pulled myself together and went to the local game supplier and grapped SoU... I'm looking forward to playing, as i haven't done that in quite a while...
As I now got SoU, I will probably release a new version of this file that uses SoU specific features, where petrification is the first I can think of. On top of that, I can make sure that the beholder is compatible with SoU.
I will leave this version up for those of You who don't have SoU. But i'll post a link in here to the new file when it's released...

Is this module compatible with SoU?

Quick question: Does anyone else just see a light/baby blue for the Beholder's mouth and tentacles? I was wondering if that file that it was missing was it :) Some kind of texture or something for it... It runs and IS gorgeous, but those seem a little out of place... Can anyone else confirm or deny this? Thanks again for such a beautiful model!!

Great job!! As a side note, I did get the same missing file error, that Redkraken did... Does this mean anything? In any event, keep up the OUTSTANDING work!!
Thanks!!
