This is a demonstration of a flowing river effect I might be implementing into some tileset work. The purpose of publishing this demo is to, hopefully, generate some discussions and to let me get an idea of how much people appreciate stuff like this. If lots of people are interested, then I might spend more time developing the effects. Otherwise, I'll just leave this here as a reference for other modellers and builders who want to employ this method of simulating flowing water in their own projects.
Basically, what this does is to cover the static water surface with a rapid moving alpha layer to create a believeable flowing effect. I think it does look quite nice and the movement complements the static state of the tile models rather well. Almost Zen. This method of overlaying alpha can also be used on lake surfaces to create a rhythmic oscillating windblown effect - not included in this demo - and stuff along that line.
There's a minor issue though - it looks really weird with Shiny Water, but nobody likes Shiny Water anyway. :p
...
To view, simply plop DEMO - Flower.mod into your modules folder, gao_flowdemo.hak into your hak folder, and play the mod. I'm using 1.67's toolset, but I've reduced the requirement with LilacSoul's InfoChanger, so this should work fine in 1.66. Let me know if it isn't the case.

Easily implemented into a custom mod. This hak is small, uncomplicated and really does the job. I will be using this in future. Thanks! _________________________ Three Headed Troll Art Wurks

gaoneng,
I hope you don't mind too much, but I couldn't get this thing out of my head until I did something with it, so I made a few modifications to the mdl and tga to end up with more variety. The result is the "Flowing Liquids v1.1".

Looking forward to the next release :D very cool concept. I really like the community that is NWN.

I have NO idea how I missed this for 18 &^&*(^ months, but apparently I agree with those a lot more observant - go for it! Brilliant concept (with or without various speeds) just so long as it causes no CEP2 conflicts (which I cannot imagine a problem). I'll keep up more usual daily check of new downloads just in case you decide to bow to popular opinion and release it. Very good luck to you.

I'd like to see it completed as well. Very good work.

Is there anything going on with this? It is one of those excellent things that, along with many others, simply got overlooked in the mass of stuff out there for NWN. I hope this is released.
Thanks for all you've provided for us already, though.

Excellent work and ingenious concept. I would like to echo a similar request posted below....speed variants. Since these are placeable animations, it is unlikely to have a "variable" speed setting but having some variants (with this one being FAST) of MEDIUM (50% of FAST) and SLOW (50% of MEDIUM) would be great. Thanks again! _________________________ [More TNO Placeables][Community Music Pack][More Doors][My Other Custom Content]

Very nice work! It definitely makes the water look more realistic and natural. Top marks from me! _________________________ "Inconceivable!"

Thanks for the votes, even though there really isn't anything to vote on. :)
I have been working on this on off, since I do believe in this. I just never got around to packaging it up for public release. I think I will now. _________________________ [dla][united colors][player's handbook][other submissions]
There are many that would be interested in seeing this get completed. We already use your Shields, and this is just incredible work!
Please complete it!

That is great work! It really does add a touch of realism that wasn't there. You should definitely develope this as far as it can be taken. I am sure that people will love this...I know that I do. :D _________________________ Never interrupt an enemy while he is making a mistake.
