This hak contains the minotaur models from a much larger idea I'm working on. This allows you to create minotaurs that can wear armor, dual weild or use double-sided weapons. One of the models also allows you to edit the appearance of the minotaur by changing the color of his skin, eyes, horns and hooves. The other uses the standard minotaur texture for skin. Both allow for much greater flexibility in implementing these essential D&D beasts. These can also be used with CODI's character creator to give you a very unique player avatar. Please let me know what you think as I am planning on adding more content, and feedback would help me to make sure what I'm doing is something the community wants.

Hey gang. Sorry for long delay, I needed a break from all this. Yes, I'm still working on this stuff. I'm in the process of writing a tutorial for making your own custom races. I can't say it's very good, but it should get the point across. I should have it done by the end of the year at the latest provided I don't run in to any big obstacles. I'm also working on Lizardmen and Ogres. Knolls will follow shortly after provided I can find the time to do them.
-Sabre-
No, the skin colors can't change in the A packs. I set this up intentionally so that it would retain as much of the original look as possible. I may change this if I can find a workaround for certain NWN enigine obstacles.

is anyone working on these still?

this is truly great work guys I especially love the kobold which I'm using in a little module of mine atm... the little guys kick +blocked+ :>>
quick question - can the creature-appearance models in pack A (eg the un-changeable ones) change when they wear armor ?

Nice work. Im particularly interested in the non-recolouring version. Any chance of a sort of how-to guide? just so that i have some idea of how you did this so others (me included) can repeat on other races/models. I dont think it would need too much detail, just a 10 point plan.
Id like to do this cos im trying to re-write the monsters so they can level up in different clases, but with only 2 models per race, it gets hard to tell them apart quickly! Monsters are people too ;-)

A quick note for anyone following the progress of these haks. My wife has just been swiched to nights at her work. So, I'll be spending most of my evenings watching the kids and won't have the time I've had to spend on NWN. I will still try to do what I can, but I'm sure this will slow things considerably. AcidChalk has been helping me with these haks and Gandalf has recently asked to help as well. If anyone else is interested in doing something like this, please feel free to email me and I will help in any way I can. I may not be able to spend a lot of time on the haks, but I can answer emails and hopefully help someone to make their own conversion.

Ogres and Hill Giants are in the plans as well, but will come after Kobolds, Lizardfolk and Goblins. I hope to be finished with this part of my plan by the end of the month. After that, I will be working on Monster "prestige" Classes.

These are fantastic. What are the chances of you making an ogre version of these?
Posted by Gandalf_Istari ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2003-08-08 16:07:00
Once again, I think this is a great project that can add so much variety to the game.
After Kobolds and Lizardmen, any idea what you'll be doing next? I'm really hoping you do giants and perhaps undead...
Thanks for this great hak. I'd vote for it again if I could!

A quick update. I've got a very talented modeler to help me out so things should happen a little quicker now. He is currently working on the Kobolds. Also, we will be releasing 2 versions of each monster race. One version will use the actual monster texture so no color changes and only one head available. The other will allow for color changes and multiple heads but will use the standard human textures. Unfortunately, I can't fiure out a way to do both in a single model. Orcs, Hobgolins and Kobolds should be available soon.

I would defintitely post that problem to the Bioware CC board...
Posted by D&D Geek ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2003-08-05 13:00:00
It seems I've run into a fairly major problem. I won't be able to include multiple heads for any models unless someone can help me find a good tutorial on how to skin heads. I'm using Gmax and Photoshop. I can create the textures in tga, bmp and plt format. I can create/edit most objects I need. BUT, I can't figure out how to apply a texture to a complex object like a head. If anyone has any resources, please let me know. It's the only thing holding me up from releasing my hobgoblins and orcs. Other than the heads they are complete and ready to post.

D&D Geek,
A tutorial would be excellent for this.
I would offer to throw in some time on helping expand your project, but I have like zero CC experience. If you think I might still be able to help even given my lack of experience in creating custom content, shoot me an email...
Posted by D&D Geek ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2003-08-04 08:27:00
Wow. All this positive feedback is awesome. Sorry no major updates today, my wife worked all weekend so I spent the whole weekend with my kids. Nintendo Gamecube got all my time :)
Now on to replies...
Excalibur: Sorry, no way to change colors on the PC2 version. They use the creature tga as the texture source instead of plt files. I will consider making PC1 versions if there are enough people asking for it, but not untill then because I personally don't think they look near as nice. Also, I like the head idea so I'll see what I can do.
Mr. Dave: Glad to hear you like the hak. Could you please tell me more about "Weathersong".
Dradjeel: Yes, the necks are too long. I'm having a problem with the head getting "stuck" to one side, so I raised the head thinking it would clear up the problem. It didn't help, so I'm going to put them back where they belong.
Gandalf: Great idea on the portfolio, I'll set one up as soon as I can. As for the individual haks, sounds like a good idea. I use the same appearance.2da for all the new races so it shouldn't be a problem for people to use more than one monster hak. Also, any humanoid type race can be done. The minotaur was the hardest one to do because of the odd feet and large hands, but the rest are easy, just time consuming.
This minotaur hak took me about 6 weeks to get working. It was my first attempt at custom content and I had a LOT of learning to do. The hobbies took, about 3 days, so I've sped up the process quite a bit. Expect orcs next then most like kobolds and lizard folk.
One last thing. I've considered either starting a small group to help with the cause or putting out a tutorial for people to do their own. Let me know if there's interest in either. Thanks again for all the kind words.

For the reasons of the plt system being how it is, you might want to stick to races with relatively humanlike skin. There is quite a variety of those, however, so it's not really a major limitation.
Posted by Gandalf Istari ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2003-08-03 13:03:00
Glad to hear that these don't use the override or dialog.tlk files. This really is a great addition to the game.
I would concur with the other requests for doing this for the other humanoid races, such as goblins, orcs, ogres, giants, gnolls, kobolds, lizardmen, etc. Not sure if it would be possible, but maybe you could do this for some of the demons or planar creatures as well, like CODI's demons or even their mindflayers. Just think about having a mindflayer guard in plate armor...
Now that Maximus has set up the portfolio system, I would say upload each creature as individual haks and also upload a compilation of them. This way people could use individual creatures that you have altered to be able to use armor, without having to download them all if they only need just one or two of them.
One huge request I would have would be to see the giant races able to use different armors. Also, it would be really great to be able to put different armors on undead creatures...
This really is a great hak. Thanks for putting in the time on these.

Nice work. I think the hobgoblins might have a bit too long a nexk, but otherwise it's fantastic.
Posted by Mr. Dave ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2003-08-03 01:42:00
Well, before I convert it and put into my override folder I tested it out.
Works like a champ!
I made a first level monstrous fighter and exported him into my erf folder.
I then opened him in Leto and used the Character Converter Wizard to convert him into a PC and hopped into a mod. The whole process took a couple of minutes.
I took some screenshots and am already in the process of making a portrait out of one of them.
Thank you again for making this killer hakpak!
I put the word out to some of the guys who frequent Weathersong, so we will probably see more of these as player characters very soon!

I LOVE YOU!!!
We were just discussing the need for such things........
I'll take some screenshots and make a portrait or two out of them once I get this into my override and make a player character out of it. :D

I'd love to see a kobold in full plate mail, that'd be great!

Great work!
Now I can finish my War3 MiniMod !!!
You could try to do the same with the lizardman, kobolds, gnolls and the other humanoid races...
Maybe you could make a minotaur helmet using the Minogon head.
Posted by D&D Geek ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2003-07-31 20:47:00
Ok, I've started on the hobgoblin as my next project. Like Excalibur said, it should be very simple to do the orc next. My question to you all is... How should I post these addtions? Would ya'll prefer individual haks or 1 large hak that incorporates all of them? Also, my current plan is to do all future races like minotaur 2. Meaning, changing the color of skin, horns, claws, etc will NOT be an option. If I find a way to better use the human textures, I may consider doing a 2nd version of each.
Posted by Excalibur ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2003-07-30 12:18:00
Hmm, if the Hobgoblin head were just removed, it could be an addition to the Half-orc ... body types are a little different, not much, but why not do it this way? :)
Posted by Loki Hakanin ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2003-07-30 07:01:00
Great HAK idea! I really like it.
If you do continue on others, consider me one more vote for Hobgoblins. I was delighted they added a Hobgoblin model in 1.30, but I wished I could customize it's clothing and armor and weapons more. I think they got the skin texture and face dead on...I just don't want all my Hobgoblins dressed the same way, you know?
Keep it up!

Cool! The Monstrous Companiondom ;) (You can use that name if you really want to ;) heh though not sure if you would like to ... heh)
A couple more suggestions:
Resize the minotaur heads (with their mouths closed) for use on Half-Orc and Human bodies. Then we can have the Minotaur of Greek legend.
If you do do the other races, that'd be sweet! I'd like to see the Hobgoblin as well (from SoU/1.3x) but please take your time and do it well :)
I'm off to modify some 2D images from the game to give multi-colored cloth, skins, and other items ... there's a large number of sorely missed resources for crafting ;)
Posted by Excalibur ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2003-07-29 16:26:00
Very, very nice (just tried the minotaur) I can see alot of unique villians with this pack ...
Here's a suggestion: Put the other Minotaur heads into the pack for variety. The shaman head would look great with metal colors adjusting the circlets on its horns.
And you're right, the PC_2 version is much better with the basic skin ... ever thought about converting the basic skin into a PLT that can be affected with the skin/Hair/Tattoo chooser? keeping the texturing, but not the color? It might make for a pretty nifty affect.
