Dragon Helms v 1.1 by Excalibur 10 New Helms created from the heads of dragons in NWN. An ERF containing the helms and 10 'Dragonmen' to show them off. One Module to view the helms.
Color Notes: Leather 1: Skin/Hide, Leather 2: Mouth Interior, Cloth 1: Eyes, Cloth 2: Teeth/Horns, Metal 1 & 2: Not Used.
Update v1.1: Fixed inventory icons thanks to Lisa!
Update v 1.01: Nothing changed other than actually adding the module to the archive.
Sorry, uni and wife have taken all my spare time and I haven't even had time to play NWN let alone update the textures. If you find someone who wants to do this, please by all means do it ;) You have my permission! Heh (Like it was needed) ... Just not enough time ... *sigh*
Hope you don't mind me barging in on your thread, but did you ever manage to get around to redoing the texture mapping on these to be more efficient rather than using a full dragon? If so, let me know, I'd still love to have these in the CEP someday. :)

Unfortunately no, unless you unpack them to your override directory. That would allow you to add them to any module you have, but would not work with others in multi-player without having them do the same thing. The problem with override is that it can be changed with a patch (and usually is) and you'd have to constantly put them in there. If it's just for single player mods, then dump the contents of the hak into your override directory and add the helmets to the mod through the editor.

OK, here is the way to re-combine WITHOUT modelling tools..
Re-name the mdl's and image files according to the number you want them to have. Then, open the mdl with NOTEPAD (not Word or anything else) and replace EVERY reference of the old name with the new one. Do not forget to re-name the reference to the textures. Save the mdl and everything should be ok. If this does not work, then you must have missed some reference inside the mdl, so scan it again for any reference to the old file. This works 100 per cent because I have renamed these helmets sucessfully. The same method can be applied to other mdl's (heads, weapons, monsters etc). Thus, you can re-skin everything without losing any models, apply custom textures to placeables, etc. I have copied and renamed a portrait mdl several times and I have created infinite models of portraits witn any image I like.
Somewhere in the vault are excellent tutorials of manually renaming mdl's with text editors. I think this is the single most useful source in the vault. Find them if you didn't understand the process I described.

My solution? Do not combine the haks ... it is unnecessary. If the hak works fine on its own, then that's the best way to use it. Modules can use multiple hak packs these days anyway ;)
Outside of that, try putting the plt's in your override if you're having problems with them in another hak.
If it's a combo hak with other helms, make sure that there aren't any numbering conflicts.
Aside from that, I still suggest that you do not combine any haks unless they are similar material and one needs to be renumbered or something. I'm actually trying to start a movement to stamp combo haks out ;) *grin*

This hak works well and looks nice from the get go.
I'm just running into a problem adding this hak to an other. When I combine this hack with the other the dragon helms look like liquid silver in the tool set. They get there skins back in the game but there colors are wrong. Anyone know how I would fix this?
I tryed to use the ERF, but this didn't help.

@Sniperfox:
How do you mean "make it a prefab?" The helmets work "right out of the box." If you read the ReadMe File (linked here) you'll see this section:
"DragonHelms.erf:
All 10 helms, 8 Armors (copied from Blue Dragon Armor), and 10
Dragonmen (Half-Ocs with commoner faction, portraits for dragons, etc) all ready for importing into your mod."
So if that's what you want, it's already included.

Just wanted to update everyone, the end of the semester is happening and I am unable to work on reducing the size of the dragonhelms until mid-december. When the time does come, you will indeed see a *MUCH* smaller and more optimized mapping for the helms.

nice.
Can you makle it a prefabs?

Try putting the contents of the Hak in your override and let me know how that works. I haven't had any problems with the helmets on my end unless I play with the hak, then quit to main menu, then go back into the module without reloading the game from scratch ...

had the problem with the white bag also ... but on another hak. if it's the same bug
you just have a bag instead of your head ... also had that issue with weapon haks ....
PREPARE for my KEEN VORPAL BAG .....
" hey you don't really want to hit me with that large sword ... i only have a bag ... "

The only thing you see is a white bag? Where? In inventory, in place of the head?

Thanks to Lisa, I was able to fix the inventory icons of the helms! Enjoy!

By the way: How many of you would rather have DDS files and lower res tga files? How about if I compile the models?
Just posing the question, it might cut the filesize down a bit.

I haven't figured out how to make the background black (or transparent ... heh) ... it's rather irritating to say the least.
I'll pose the question on the forums and hopefully get the info that way.

One of the helms messes up when the colour is changed. I noticed that changing the skin colour for the icon would change the background but I can't change it so that it stays.
Very nice helms though. I always wondered why Bioware didn't include that sort of thing in the first place. Anyone I've every played PnP with always loved getting dragon armour or helms because of the cool factor.

Jojo: Sorry about that, it seems that I had missed the module ... I added it to the archive. Sorry about that.

Umm, I downloaded your stuff here and the readme says there's supposed to be a file called:
Dragon Helms Demo.mod
I only got the erf, the hak, the readme, and 2 images. Do I have to get the mod seperate, adn if so, where?

Actually, Kinarr Greycloak came up with one in his Masks hak ... I wasn't happy with a dragonhead that looked the same, save the color, for all the dragons. And I liked the fins and everything...
You will find there are clipping issues when the creature wearing the helm looks around, and some of the spikes clip into the body. Just a heads up...
