Description
Conan fans unite! This is the final version of this first installment of the Hyborian Age series. This module will allow you to play a Hyborian Age adventurer, not unlike Conan the Barbarian himself. The story begins in the outskirts of Yezud, in Zamora, and acts as a fine introduction to Robert E. Howard's fantasy world, as you infiltrate the mysterious temple of the spider god, Zath... Custom armor, weapons, and Basil Poledouris' Conan soundtrack all contribute to the immersion of this module, which, admittedly, is a hack fest. But hey, it's Conan! Note that spellcasters are not supported yet. The current magic system just doesn't fit. I will bring casters into part 2, however! The download is a self-extracting executable file which places the module, hakpack, and music files into their proper directories. Just run the .exe, and start up NWN. Good luck, and may Crom grant you the power to strive and to slay...
Frosty, not all of Howard's original tales are sexist. In fact he has some very strong female characters in a few of his stories. Read "Red Nails" sometime, if you get the opportunity. It has been some months since the creator posted anything about the sequel and I continue coming back hoping to learn something more. I will second the offer to run beta for the next module if it will aid it getting it out!

All right, then. Finished the mod. It was short, but I'm reconciled to that. Beautifully scripted and written, but I only have one *small* complaint. Everyone seems to be blind. They kept referring to my female barbarian/rogue as 'my Lord' or 'Master' and so forth. At first she was amused, then she started to get irritated; after all, the armor she was wearing made it *pretty* clear she was NOT male! You might consider fixing those someday. :) Beyond that, a lovely mod and here's to hoping you post the sequel!!!

I'm barely into the first quest of this mod, and am already deeply impressed. Now, I've never read the Conan books, but I have seen the movies, and it seems to me you've caught the flavor quite well! The writing is vivid and intelligent, and the customization is lovely. (Though I can't use the heads because, well, they're neither 1.66 or 1.67 compatible. But that's a minor flaw, and doesn't bother me so much.) I am not particularly a fan of hack'n'slash, but the writing is so well done that I'm enjoying it immensely! Not much of a code-writer, but I'd be happy to assist in beta or debugging of the sequel, simply because I'm eager to see more from you! And now I have the urge to go check out the Conan books. True, the fantasy of that era tends to offend my feminist sensibilites, but hey, it's still classic fantasy, yes? :D Excellent work!

Thanks for the comments. I haven't visited this site in quite a while, but it's good to see folks are still checking out the mod. As a small aside, I'd like to point out that Hyborian Age 2 is actually more or less finished, and has been for some time, haha. However, I had entirely too many conflicts with the new expansions, and I couldn't bring myself to debug it. I do however, plan to grab the NWN Platinum or something similar this week, and fiddle around a bit. I can't promise anything, but I may get inspired to just make a new sequel. Ya'll will be the first to know! :)

This is absolutely the best Conan mod available. I loved the atmosphere and the use of music. The dialogue was superb, very appropriate for the setting. I only had one or two complaints. First, you cannot play through this with a starting rogue .. can't be done .. you might want to mention that in your read me. (though I had no difficulty with a fighter) Second, the need to continuously retrace your steps to finish the quests. It would have been convenient to find a way around this ... though I suppose any form of teleportation would have been contrary to the setting ... still, it was obnoxious. (so much so that I never bothered returning to tell the farmer when I finished his quest) The end was a little abrupt, the virgins don't even speak ... would have been nice to have them praise you and make tempting promises of reward. Just something to add a bit more of that conan flair to the end. At any rate, great material, here's hoping you eventually write a sequal. (though, considering the date on the last response, it doesn't seem too likely)

I haven't seen any recent comments by the author, which is rather disappointing. I thought this first module was fantastic. The dialogue really served to set the atmosphere and the adventure fealt like a Conan story all the way through. The required backtracking at points was a little frustrating .. but a very small complaint considering all the strengths of the module. I do hope to see another by this author in the none-too-distant future.

Just downloaded and finished this mod, and I wanted to thank you. As others have said, the use of music was excellent, and the visuals were stunning. I found the combats to be nicely challenging, and that's exactly what I'd hope to find in a Hyborian setting! :-)

I just finished the module and really enjoyed it. Excellent use of the music from the movie (one of my all time favorites, by the way). The only complaint I really have is that I was left wanting more!:) Keep up the good work...can't wait for the next installment (please)...
