The Shadowlord campaign concludes in this module. You have entered the mind of divinity, choosing to heal the wounds within, or corrupt it into madness. The choices you make here shall mark the face of Faern for all time.
A great ending to a great series. The tasks required here were focused enough to keep you moving in the right direction. While there was little ambiguity between the good and evil paths- and they could have been drawn with blurrier boundaries- I actually appreciated the clearly focused objectives; while I can do so, I'm not wild about spending two or more hours trying to figure out what I'm supposed to be doing. At the same time, there were more than enough side quests to keep you busy as well (in addition to providing additional, badly needed experience). One thing did strike me as odd re: character development (though I didn't reduce my score because of it). Being a NG character, I had guided Nooble on his way to being a paladin. He made it officially known at the beginning of this story that he was now a paladin. The last time I had checked his level in SL4, though, he was a level 5 fighter. Upon examining him here, I found he was a fighter 2/paladin 4. This really should have been F5/P1- though again, I wasn't that bothered by the discrepancy. SPOILER: I gather there was a "big moment" between each of the three possible henchmen in this module. I managed to trigger the ones with Nooble and Teira without difficulty (I assume you need to use Anera throughout the entire series to trigger hers- I didn't). The big moments I found were quite well-done, though I'm not entirely on the idea that they would cause XP loss in addition to damage. Even so, I thoroughly enjoyed the potential character interactions that followed. I didn't find the final battle to be as difficult as others have indicated. Then again, by the time I reached that point, my character was a wizard 8/ranger 1, with plenty of buffing spells at his disposal. (Now that I think about it, Keen Edge didn't actually help out here- the balor is immune to critical hits- but spells like Flame Weapon, Greater Magic Weapon and Stoneskin were invaluable in making this battle relatively simple for me.) Overall, I found this to be a satisfying ending for the Shadowlords series. I think the series as a whole definitely has some replay value. Right now, though, I'm looking ahead to bringing my wizard onward to the Dreamcatcher series... _________________________ NWN: Shifter Expanded Classes hak, GLWizard Spell Pack NWN2: GLWizard Spellpack with Extra Invocations

This is the best one yet. _________________________ I think the GPS Navigation things in new cars shouldn't have that woman's voice, but the voice of the HAL 9000 from 2001 Space Odyssey.

An ending that rounds out the series nicely, although I never quite figured out what to do with the dirk of shadows (and I lost out on the shadow armor, as my character didn't have the heavy armor prof). Calen was an interesting touch (I was having the romance with Anera) but I'm wondering if we'll see other family members in Dreamcatcher; otherwise, he seems like sort of a non-sequitur or a deus ex machina to get the third star on Anera's token to light. Still some problems with henchman fragility, as I'm playing as a bard, but I had absolutely no trouble with the balor at the end (OK, well I lost Anera and the summoned boar you get from the item from S4), but I managed not to get myself killed before he went down. (Would have made level if not for henchman death, and Anera's script sometimes seems a little sluggish when it comes to her casting spells to buff or heal.) But these are extremely minor points when you consider how well thought out and well-written this entire series is. Also love all the references to well-loved entities like Babylon 5 and The Princess Bride. The only game (mod or main campaign) I've ever bothered to replay!

Excellent conclusion to an excellent series of MODs. Fully deserving of its' place in the Hall of Fame.

Just finished the series for the second time. This time, with a Neutral Evil Wizard/Pale Master. I wanted to play a rally evil character and decided to test if Shadowlords was up to it. It made it, barely. Most of the options are for good, neutral or semi-evil, with some very good chances for evil characters. Obviously my choice of henchman was Teira, and my char really wished he could've just made her a zombie, for she died all the time and wasn't particularly evil anyway. But thanks Adam for this, I enjoyed it again now and maybe one day I will play it again with a uber-good character... Cheers.

It hardly needs mentioning anymore, this part is great. The rest of the series might be considered as average, but this part is clearly one of the best modules made for NWN.

Well done.

Excellent series. Scripting and design were very well done, although the final module seemed a bit rushed, especially once I got to the "Water of Life" quest. I DID, however, get the Dune reference in that quest, and was amused. Looking forward to playing through Dreamcatcher.
