Description
The choice between falling to your death amidst the ruins of a resurrected Netherese city or jumping blindly into the Shadowplane well, at least you had a chance in the shadows. Youve been there a long time now, the shadows drawing deep into you, so cold in the darkness that youve ceased to remember warmth or light. And then youre rescued Travel back to the time of the Netheril Empire! Explore the ruins of the first city that fell and discover what brought it down. Come face to face with one of the greatest unsolved mysteries of Faerun as you fight your way through the sands of the blossoming Anauroch, mind flayers in the caverns of the Underdark and the rotting dead and shambling mounds of Moander. Come to terms with the most fundamental aspect of fate and time in The Nether Scrolls. Please report any bugs/issues/questions to [email protected] to 1.15.
I noticed too late that Papermonk requested comments to be posted in this thread instead of the 1.16 HotU version thread (which was the version of the module that I used). So I'm reposting my mini-review here: I found this module to be very enjoyable. While combat-heavy, that is well explained by the short timeframe Papermonk had in which to write it. In general, my few complaints are issues that deal with my own personal preferences for immersion. I felt much of the PC's dialogue was out of character for the type of characters I play. There was more English slang and contractions than I personally like (I'm aware of valid arguments in favor of such things). I'm not a fan of respawning encounters, but in most cases the respawns at least made sense (e.g. undead in catacombs). Some routine fights were rather hard for my Sorceror along with Deekin, but that's my fault I suppose for not wanting a tank. Also, while there was a plethora of interesting custom equipment for many classes, I didn't find any equipment better than what I came in with from SoU (I'm very thorough and doubt I missed anything) but really that's a trivial issue to me. So, aside from these issues, the experience was very good. I liked the few puzzles although putting the answers in a spoiler section of the readme would probably have been a good idea for those that don't like puzzles. Using NWN Diamond v1.68 I ran into no bugs at all, I'm happy to report (assuming there was no way to complete a certain quest with a happy ending...if there was I couldn't figure it out). Thanks so much, Papermonk, for a great bridge to HotU.

Well met. Papermonk this must have taken you ages, and ages to do, just for the love of doing it. Your dedication shows. I thought this module was fantastic. I enjoyed evey second. I played a paladin, as is my want, so fighting and story balance was perfect. So sad I finished. Now onto HotU with the characyer you helped me create. Big thanks, many gold pieces to you. Blessings. _________________________ Evil meet thy end, right here, right now.

Wow, I loved this module. I played for at least 5 hours to get through the whole thing. Loved the characters and the whole "feel" of it. I too never figured out the Temple Of Light quest, but still got many hours of fun out of this. Also had some really good items to find or buy as well. I liked the ambush at the end and the choices you had. Awesome module.

Hey Guys, A few quick things... First off, obviously this module hasn't had any support for... well, a long time. Mainly because I wasn't here, and not, quite a while later, I honestly wouldn't know where to begin fixing some of these problems. A lot seem to have begun with one of the patches after HoU and I was never able to track them all down (some behavior that was rather.. unique, being that it was not at all consistant.) So, I am very sorry to anyone having trouble. As for it being somewhat linear, yes... certainly. Keep in mind this was for the contest and completed, start to finish, in about 5 weeks. Obviously a great deal of this module would be far different if I was working under normal conditions, and my work at CODI really didn't allow me to spend much more time on a private project. Thank you all for all the kind words, and again, I apologize to anyone having problems. _________________________ Papermonk - Mighty, yet flamable

I'm dropping this module. **Spoilers!!** -After getting the book the dragon attacks me on sight. He can't kill me and I can't kill him. In other words: I'm stuck. -I couldn't find the relic for the light cultists, and besides my paladin doesn't like undead, so he killed them all. Now I found out that if I do that I'm stuck as well because I need that relic later on? Bad, very bad design. -railroading, limited dialog and it doesn't fit my paladin. -stupid marriage. Breaks immersion as soon as the game starts. -and more. I understand I should not compare this to a "normal" module as there was limited time available, but otoh from my (player) perspective I *do* see it as a normal mod, and then it's just not worth it. All in all I do not quite understand how this module won, I liked Shadohaunt much better. Just not my thing, I guess.

ack it truncated my last post. ...`dm_spawnitem gaveloflight001 First is the real gavel, the second is the fake gavel. I think the resref for the real gavel is missing, or at least on my version.

SPOILERS I'm horrorified to find build errors in four scripts. I've opened the mod in toolset and was able to fix some. A lot of them were syntactical (extra parethese, or the like). For those with gavel problems, try using `DebugMode 1 `dm_spawnitem gaveloflight

Good job, Papermonk :) I'm having fun, despite the 'one dialogue option fits all' thing. I see many people before me had this problem, but I didn't see an answer. Is there any way to complete the Light and Shadows quest on the Light side, so to speak? And how do you not accept the fake gavel? (My char has a low Wis, so if it's an Insight check, I see Potion of Owl's Wisdom in her future. She does have mad Diplomacy skills and insane Charisma, being a bard.) I tried accepting the gavel and killing the Sharrans; no luck. Tried giving the fake to the priests, then killing the Sharrans; no luck there either. Neither the statue nor the altar are selectable, which makes destroying them problematic. There doesn't seem to be anything else in the room. Help, anyone?
