Description
The St. Bumbledom Autumnal Festival is scheduled to be another blockbuster event for the population of Vertex. Banquets are planned, entertainers are booked, and even the beggars are getting hosed off and given new sets of rags to wear. It's going to be an event to remember!
The only problem is the growing stench in the city streets. It's difficult to have a party with the sewers backing up.
Something has to be done to stop the volumes of noxious gas filling the streets and ruining all the fun.
The Bumbledale Waste Redistribution Union #434 has gone on strike at the worst possible time. The Department of Management is looking for brave souls to fill the position of Strike Negotiator.
Applicants must negotiate a settlement between the Union and the City of Bumbledale before the city goes down the crapper...literally.
I am no longer building for NWN and have moved on to NWN2. I'm currently in production for a NWN2 module called Jabberwocky, and building areas for other module projects. Perhaps I will add a chapter 2 to Vertex, but it will be for NWN2 if I do. _________________________ Mokah - The Grumpy Strumpet || Dear Strumpet Letters|| Jabberwocky Development Blog|| Vertex I - The State of the Union ||
The file is not corrupted. I've downloaded it just fine and it opened without a hitch. I've uploaded a 7Zip version of the file for your convenience. If you still have trouble, might I suggest you use 7Zip or a new version of WinRar for uncompression. These are not WinZip files which might be your problem. _________________________ Mokah - The Grumpy Strumpet || Dear Strumpet Letters|| Jabberwocky Development Blog|| Vertex I - The State of the Union ||
I'm sorry that you didn't care for this mod. Vertex is an acquired taste I guess. As far as being playable, many people have played through this module with great success, and it was tested be several testers before release for combat balance, as well as bugs, so I'm not sure how to help you with your experience.
Granted, this module was released before the last expansion and all of the patches since, so there may be things that are broken, that were working perfectly in testing. I'm no longer working with NWN as I've moved on to NWN2, so I guess we'll never know.

Worth "9" for the effort certainly but IMHO the module as it is today failed to deliver. Several scripts may not work anymore as intended.
The look and feel and atmosphere are average. The humor is not too bad. I found the module less entertaining than "Ankh Morpork". My score would certainly be much higher if the module was playable. You can hire lousy henchmen (one even charge 1000 GP) and fight hordes of rats or bugs. If they don't kill you wait until you face the uber spiders! ("1" for combat balance). I would probably need a well equipped lvl 6 or 7 character to finish this but I don't thing it's interesting enough to try it a third time. Your mileage may certainly vary.
3-4: It is clear the author tried to make something interesting, but still fell short. With more work it might be worth the download.

This is a really other idea, a little bit of old adventure style. I liked it. But there is one thing I really HATE: Storys without end!

Great, a wonderful change of pace. Chance to get a good laugh at ourselves and a quality mod at the same time!

Glad you liked the mod. There were real problems with the henchmen code when I made this module. When it was released everything was working. I'm sure something got broken with the recent patches. Unfortunately I'm not building in NWN anymore.
The rock (as with many other puzles) can be solved however you see fit. I try not to railroad you too much. If you wanted to sit and bash on the rocks for an hour, you could. It's a good stress releaver. I put the powder kegs in so that you could speed up the process. You could also use the powder kegs elsewhere in the module...but I'll leave that to players to discover.

Excellent mod, challenging and funny! I played as a barbarian and found the bug hunt to be very challenging at times (hardcore rules) and that was with the minotaur henchman. BTW, why didn't the henchman level up with me? That would have been helpful. Under reviews (above) they complained that there was too much loot. Well I say, good thing too. If I couldn't afford potions, I wouldn't have made it through. The quests were cool.
***Spoiler***
BTW, were you supposed to get hold of explosives from that one ship in order to break through the rocks to get to Stucky Lu? I just took the sword of cold from that chest on the same ship (took a lot of damage from the trap too) and broke through the rocks with that (took a while).
***End spoilers***
I'm still using that sword BTW at 11th level.
Anyway, thanks for a great mod! _________________________ Defeat the Black Knights! Play Phantasie

Haven't finished yet, and will update my vote when I have, but since only 1 more vote is needed for HOF, I'll vote. _________________________ My shoes are too tight and I have forgotten how to dance.

An amazing module! It definitely deserves more votes and attention. I don't remember laughing so hard since the Penultima series. The "Dear Strumpet" letters were a blast. Brilliant, witty, totally hilarious.
Minor problems such as not putting a quest in the finished section. It was the one in which I had to save the union workers. I did it, got the xp but my journal didn't recognize it as completed. It would had been nice if there was some interaction with my henchman. Also, the constant respawning of the monsters was a little frustrating. My char was a fighter and I can say that battles were challenging and that kept me alarmed. Loot was more than enough. A little over the top. It also felt a little weird to see death as a demon. I would have expected a dark, slim figure. But that's just personal taste.
Other than that, I didn't run into a major bug. I loved being a smart-ass, an absolute anti-hero and the plot was something different from the usual "plague, doom, end of the world as we know it" situation. A detailed, highly entertaining module. Too bad there is no chapter 2. I hope in time that there will be. Well done!

Mokah,
I'd play Vertex 2 immediately. _________________________ Steve's Characters - please don't forget to vote on them if you play them.
Thanks for the praise. It means a lot. Believe it or not I've been tossing around Vertex 2 for a long time. I'm just not sure with NWN2 coming. In truth, it will be a while before NWN2 will have the content that I need to do VX2 - Lord of the Fries so doing it in NWN might make sense. I'd just hate to release it and no one play it because NWN2 is taking all the attention.
About your comments, which are always welcome: Multiplayer is not going to be supported because of the storyline. VX1 doesnt really show it but the storyline of VX2 demands single player. Sorry, youll have to giggle alone in the dark. Its the best way anyway.
Yes, the henchmen in VX1 were sadly 2 dimensional; as they were added as an afterthought and before I really knew what I was doing. Rest assured that henchmen in VX2 and onward are very important to the story and will have their own views on your situation. In fact, they will follow you through to the last chapter in VX5.
Again, thanks for the praise and the vote. Tell your friends!

I loved this mod! I just finished it and it is the most fun I have had playing NWN in a long time. I am simply heartbroken that the other mods in this series were never produced!
My favorites parts... the dog haiku, I am going to keep that with my character so I can read it when ever I want, it is that good. The grumpy strumpet letters are wonderful, the humor through the entire mod is really refreshing and witty. The time and detail you took to create new potions and books is impressive. I actually looked forward to checking bookshelves again! The main quest was creative. The dialog was sharp and entertaining. The penguins were so hilarious and adorable!
Two things that I would have liked: 1) multiple player, this is just so fun you want to share it with someone! 2) To get a story from the henchman, your dialog is so witty I found myself longing to talk to the henchman. These are not big things, just added bonuses really.
I did have my henchman run over to disarm a trap and step on it, triggering it and killing him. That didn't really detract from my enjoyment and the first time he did it I laughed (evil I know) I also had him open a door and after a reload had him tell me he couldn't open the same door, which was odd. But these are really small issues and I didn't feel they were worth taking any points off the score.
Thank you for all the work you did on this one, and I do wish you had not given up on this series.

I have just finished the mod. The main theme of the mod is anti-hero and there are many crazy jokes about the "adventurers". There are also many hilarious dialouges and interesting design.
There are several comments about the mod:
=== Spoiler Below ===
- I especially love the "Letter to Stumpt" Series (However, where is issue #12? I cannot find it.)
- There are too many rats in extinction quest. And they are not ordinary rats, they are dire rats! I'm playing with a ranger. It is rather difficult if he and his hencemen and animal companion being surrounded by those rats. Worse still, the dire rats in the other rooms will open the door and rush onto the PC. That means a quick death for the PC. Finally I have to cheat and using god mod to finish them off.
- The monster respawn rate inside the sewer tube is too fast. After I have go to another area and back to the originally cleared area, the monster reappear again. In ordinary case I could still handle them. However, when the animal companion is dead, the life and my PC is low and they could not get rest, that is another case. It is deadly when I have to encounter those "C.H.U.D."s over and over again and I just wonder whether this is another "test for annoyance".
- Base on the above reason I think the combat is bias towards the strong fighter classes.

"I've gotten 2700+ downloads but only 19 votes. It's kinda sad since I could have been in the hall of fame with a few more votes. Didn't really go on to part two since it didn't get much of a reaction from the crowd."
Here's a vote for support :D. I played and loved your mod but forgot to vote, sorry :D _________________________ "I just love your pointy ears" Said the orc. "Really? I do like your large fangs" Replied the elf.

You type the answers in chat mode. Talking will work. He will ask a riddle and then wait for you to say the answer in chat. If you type the correct answer, he will continue with the next one. There are three total. If you get completely stumped, there are hints in the module as well as the answers in the manual.
I don't know anything about files extension so a .tlk is just an enigma to me.
However it seems to me that CEP team clarified every time they had the chance that the CEP was a collection of community content. It's true that if you want the credits of the original creator you'll need to find them by yourself, however they are quite a huge list so I think it's understandable.
Actually many also thought that CEP was made by Bioware because of the NWN wednesday advertising. And that's doomed to happen again with some other big project like DLA and CODI and similar ones.
On the internet many people gets easily confused and, even worse, prefer to post before reading - thinking.
However it's good that you are using CEP!

An interview with me about NWN mods
Now now, don't mis-read my posts about CEP. I like CEP and the idea of it. What I was a little miffed about was how the credit for the actual content in CEP was handled. I don't believe Bioware or the CEP team adequately credit the actual authors of the material. MANY people on the forums wrongly assume that the CEP team or Bioware made the content. It shouldn't be so easy for people to get that idea. That's all I was saying.
On a side note, I'm not really thrilled about the CEP.tlk as you can only use one per module. Combining .tlks is not fun or easy.
